A list of puns related to "Neon Genesis Evangelion Franchise"
TLDR: Anything similar to Metal Gear Solid, Neon Genesis Evangelion, David Lynch, Stanley Kubrick, Akira
I've posted this before but couldn't really articulate what I was looking for. The things I enjoy from these franchises are:
The themes of war and death as backgrounds for characters. Both MGS and NGE feature soldiers bred for battle, and the psychology of that is explored. I enjoyed Full Metal Jacket for similar reasons.
The often surreal moments. Someone in the last thread suggested David Lynch films. He's one of my favorite directors, but I've only seen Twin Peaks/FWWM/The Return and plan to watch his films soon. Anything in the same vein as Lynch would be excellent.
If you are the sort of person that likes to just hit the play button on a new show, the below isn't for you. If you're like me and like to be overprepared before jumping into a big franchise, read on...
Neon Genesis Evangelion is the name of an anime and also a manga series that both started in the mid 1990s. Since then, itโs grown into a major franchise with numerous spinoffs, and a merchandise empire to rival Star Wars. Beloved in its homeland of Japan and by fans all over the planet, Neon Genesis Evangelionโs early releases still hold up to the very best today, and as of 2020 the franchise is still active with new entries on the horizon.
If youโre curious about this series and want to see what all the fuss is about, you could just dive head-first into it, but if youโre like me, you suffer from severe franchise anxiety, worrying about getting into it โwrongโ. Well, thatโs where I come in. Iโm going to tell you all the things that my overthinking ass wished I knew back when I first jumped into it a long time ago. You can read this whole guide and not be spoiled about any story details.
Throughout this guide, Iโll use the word โEvangelionโ as an abbreviation for the franchise as a whole. As well as โEvangelionโ, fans may use the full title โNeon Genesis Evangelionโ to refer to the franchise, or the acronym โNGEโ, or simply โEvaโ.
I remember hearing a friend tell me that he was curious about getting into the series but felt overwhelmed by the many entries and didnโt know where to start. It was sad to hear that, because in actual fact, the franchise structure is very simple. This isnโt Gundam.
The most important part of Evangelion is what Iโll call the โcore Evangelion storyโ, and itโs the primary continuity. This begins with the 26-episode anime series, plus the theatrical film The End of Evangelion. Thatโs it! Thatโs the core story. All you need to do is watch the series, then the movie. Everything else is a spinoff or bonus content in one form or another. Thereโs no โtrueโ sequel to the core story*.
*sort-of
Yep! The original show (which Iโll just call NGE from here on in) ran for a single season of 26 episodes between 1995 and 1996 in Japan, and each episode aired in a half-hour timeslot, so episode lengths are ge

Seems like all the weird gnostic imagery would vibe well with Mattโs autism. Basically imagine if Carl Jung ate a bunch of shrooms, popped a huge boner and then made an anime about ego death, and thatโs the show. As a gentleman of color I highly recommend it.
holy shit i canโt believe i waited so long to watch this. i wasnโt really into anime besides a specific few (akira, perfect blue, cowboy bebop, the animatrix) but this after binging it with my roommate it mightโve made me a fan. literally a perfect show, perfect soundtrack, perfect themes, perfect animation and perfect characters. itโs been a while since a media franchise has hooked me this much, i even ordered a reproduction of a 90โs eva-01 model kit despite knowing nothing about model-building. i can definitely see how itโs red-scare approved, ive been really struggling with my self worth and it really connected with me. the third impact scene is now one of my favorite moments in anything ever. is the rebuild series worth watching? i donโt want to risk tainting it for myself.
i barely remmeber it or her character from watching it so long ago as a kid but is this a compliment or insult lol
Those psychological thought provoking animes pleez
I haven't watched anything Evangelion and mainly wanna watch The End Of Evangelion (1997) but for that I'll probably have to watch Neon Genesis Evangelion (1995-96) first but most of its episodes are rated pretty much below 8 on imdb so I was wondering if it didn't age well. Is the full 1995 series worth watching or should I just watch the recap, Death And Rebirth (1997) before watching End Of Evangelion?
Happy new year, everybody! Here's hoping that this year will be a better one, given the times we're in.
I've decided to hold off on collecting some series and sell a few others, because other priorities in life are getting in the way. I aim to slowly add other tiles as I re-evaluate my collection and decide what to keep.

Manga - Single Volumes:
It is the best ending possible.Evangelion was never a show about robots fighting monsters. It was always a show about the depths of the human mind and how to conquer your inner demons.Anno has even said that it was just a very public therapy session. The ending being that Shinji conquered his depression is perfect and doesnโt need any context. It didnโt need a flashy final fight that concluded the story completely. That wouldnโt have worked for what Evangelion was supposed to be.It needed this exact perfect ending. (I havenโt watched the rebuild movies yet so donโt spoil them for me)
Iโm looking for some good anime that are Similiar to Neon Genesis Evangelion. It doesnโt necessarily have to be old school, but it has to have a future setting, badass female characters, mecha fights, etc.
Hello, I'm a pretty new anime fan, I got into anime only 6 months back. I started off with Jujutsu Kaisen, and I've watched pretty much every popular new gen anime out there. I'm aware that doesn't put me at the top of the anime game, and I'm not trying to achieve that. I'm just watching stuff that appeals to me.
That said, is starting Neon Genesis Evangelion recommended? I see a lot of people talking highly of it on Instagram, and I thought maybe I'd give it a go.
So Iโm a fan of Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Iโm trying to look for a similar anime. It doesnโt exactly have to be a โclassic,โ but it needs to have a future setting, badass female characters, fights with giant robots, and some psychological aspects.
Iโve heard there are movies that take place after. But I am unsure as to what order to watch them and their contents. Any guidance?
Iโm a bit confused and have always been a bit confused on how exactly do we move from neon genesis evangelion into the rebuild series (1.11,2.22,3.33, 1.0+2.0) I feel the ending for neon Genesis evangelion and the beginning for 2.22 donโt properly explain how we got to this point.
Can someone please briefly explain?
So my bf really wanted me to watch Neon Genesis Evangelion and except for the existential crisis that it gave me I really liked the show as well as the movies.
I was wondering if there was any other animes that share a similar genre. I watched Devilman Crybaby and I felt like there was a similar vibe to it but since I don't a lot of animes I was wondering if anyone had something to recommend to me!
