A list of puns related to "Negrito"
Is there a connection between the various Andamanese groups and the so called Filipino "Negritos"? Or are their so called "similarities" (such as shorter heights, hunter gatherer lifestyles, and darker skin tones) entirely superficial?
For example, nowadays, the Maniq people is an estimated 300 people.
Did the negritos ended up intermarrying with the dominate population or were they just always a small population now mainland Southeast Asia?
I interested in understanding about this.
Things are about to get spicy, y'all . Play ball!
This all started last year (happy new years!) when an Uruguayan soccer player that plays for Manchester United named Edinson Cavani posted something on Instagram. He was congratulating his friend (who is also Uruguayan) in Spanish and said the word "negrito" in his post.
What is negrito?
Hopefully I can explain this correctly. The direct translation would be along the lines of "little black friend" but in a Latino context, it is not meant to be offensive. It's meant as an affectionate nickname for a pal, you can even use it for someone that doesn't even have dark skin. If there are any latino users here, you kinda get what I'm trying to say (sorry if I'm explaining this badly)
Now, this word was seen as offensive to some British people in the league and they believed that negrito must have been a derogatory racist slur that Cavani used towards his friend. Bit of a culture clash happening.
Cavani deleted the post upon getting in trouble and made an apology. The incident was posted, of course, to reddit.
Spanish speakers help me out. Is this offensive in your language?
It might be ok in Uruguay but it aint ok here
