A list of puns related to "Mav"
Shout-out to Stephen A Smith, Michael Wilbon, and Jalen Rose for all picking Ja over Luka to start a franchise around. Bonus points for calling Ja a lockdown defender and Luka a poor defender while Luka leads Ja in every advanced defensive stat available.
their last win against a >0.500 team prior to that were the healthy Heat WITHOUT Lebron on November 10th. Lakers had their Big 3 vs. the Mavs and still barely won in OT
overall they are 5-11 vs. >0.500 teams and 1-6 since Lebron returned from injury

>Isaiah Thomas was out grocery shopping in Seattle when Mavs GM Nico Harrison called him today about signing a 10-day contract. He asked me, 'You think you can play tonight.? I said, 'Hell yeah I can play tonight.' " So Thomas hopped on a plane and flew to Sacramento.

Context bc this might be confusing
The clip on the right was posted by the Mavs official TikTok after they beat the Thunder on December 12th. Giddey finished with 6 points on 3/14 shooting. The context for their joke is that Giddey is quite the active TikToker and he is famous for his use of this audio originating from Drake. They just edited in the word βblockβ and showed him getting blocked lol
Giddey apparently took that personally and had this game marked on his calendar. He was the youngest player to record a triple double and proceeded to hop on TikTok and essentially repost the old Mavs clip in a way that says βhm? what now?β
Although the Mavs still won so it doesnt work perfectly but pretty funny nonetheless
>This article about my time there is spot on. And thatβs coming from staff members n players! Yβall donβt even know the half.

He is talking about an article by Tim MacMahon that detailed the toxic culture in the mavericks where Carlisle tried to pit Luka against him event though they were very good friends.

>Over the first two months of last season, Luka Doncic was: 178-for-224 (80%) from the free-throw line.
>Thus far this season, Doncic is: 58-for-89 (65%) from the free-throw line
>His on/off numbers are also shocking
>Yes, Luka Doncic's on/off splits this season are stunning.
>The Mavs have been outscored by 110 points with Doncic on the floor this season.
>The only player in the NBA on a winning team with a worse plus/minus is Kemba Walker (-122)
Dude just kept hitting the 3's I guess. Pretty good win by the lakers considering the form they have been in this season. The Mavs lose with their star player out. 3 wins in a row for the lakers now.
There have been 80 triple-doubles in Mavericks franchise history. Here's the breakdown:
Luka Doncic: 40
Everyone else: 40
This is Luka's 226th career game, the 2nd-fewest games to reach 40 triple-doubles in NBA history (Oscar Robertson, 92 games).

Major props to all who pitched in from the Pelicans organization. They were immensely helpful to make this go very smoothly. It was so gracious of the Mavs to OK it. My awesome wife is a superstar for adjusting our plans for the day. Back at it for Mavs vs Blazers Monday at 9.

The Lakers havenβt won a game vs a .500 team in a month. They won vs the Mavs on December 15 and are 0-6 since.

can somebody tell me where the fuck are all the post game panels and talk shows and post game analysis? I cant find anything about mavs this year anymore. stephen a, max, perk, jalen, jacoby, greeny or whatever his name is, the show that Rachael had, nick wright, brousaaaaard, shanon and that prick skip etc, shaq and chuck... nothing. Zero.
Why is no one discussing mavs or doncic (and other teams too) anymore??
last time someone posted the clip where jalen, stephen a etc chose ja over doncic.. and I am trying to find a follow up now that luka smoked their ass...there is none. I cant find a single post game analysis by these about mavs this season... wtf is going on? used to find them at least after every second game last year or before! Now? nothing. Why? I'd like to see what they say, there is much to say about kidd, defense improvements etc.
Really lame.

The fact that we lost to the best team in the league by single digits on the second night of a back to back with our superstar player not fully healthy yet and absolutely clamped them down for 3 quarters shows that we are able to duke it out with the big boys and that we are right there behind them!
We are on the right track and the other teams should be scared to face us in the coming months, because we'll only get better, and better and better.
They will tremble before us by the end of the season!
So I've seen some rumors that the Mavs are interested in trading for Collins, and I've also seen many people on this sub who would be excited to get him. Here's why I think that's a terrible idea.
Collins is an awkward fit on defense. He's pretty good on that end but not a lockdown and would be an especially awkward fit with KP, imo. (But this the least important)
Collins is not a good enough shot creator. He scores with decent efficiency, but would rely on Luka for a majority of his offense, which is not what we need. His 3s are almost strictly catch & shoot and a good amount of the rest of his offense is fed from Trae. 3s are actually great efficiency but only 3 attempts a game over his career
Collins is also nowhere near aggressive enough. I see hawks fans complain about this, he's averaged 12 FGA over the past 2 seasons and often finishes games with less than 10 FGA. He's also not good enough of a shot creator/will almost certainly not develop into a good enough one to where he will shot create efficiently on high volume.
What we need in exchange for the assets that we give up in a trade for a player of Collins' caliber is someone who has a good handle, consistent shot creation ability, and is still just as good or almost just as good in non-Luka minutes. Preferably a wing with good defense. I think that trading for a player as limited as JC would significantly lower the ceiling of the forseeable Luka era.
Opinions?
Edit: Also not saying we must make a move, but if we do, please not JC
> Replacement player Theo Pinson after playing 22 minutes in his Mavs debut: βThey were calling stuff; I had no idea what it was. I was just reading off of my teammates.β
> Theo Pinson, who was signed by Dallas yesterday, finished with 7 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block and a career-high 4 steals in 22 minutes tonight. > > Pinson became just the second player this season to go for 7p-4r-3a-4s-1b in under 25 minutes (Terance Mann).
Despite not having Luka for periods of the season, KP still being injury-prone, their shooters not shooting at a good rate, and one of the Omicron worst situations in the league, the Mavericks have somehow stayed afloat and are currently the fifth seed at 20-18. Why?
Their defense since December 2nd is #30 in the league in points allowed per game with only 99.72 opponents PPG in that time span, in 18 games
They also lead the league in defensive rating since December 10, with a defensive rating of 104.7, in 13 games.
I should also note in their last 5 games, theyβre 4-1, and theyβve given up less than 80 points in 3 of those games and less than 100 in all 5. Their lone loss was a buzzer-beater loss to Sacramento.
Considering they were 20th in defensive rating last season, Kidd deserves credit for making a mediocre-bad defensive team a very good one with relatively minor changes to the roster.

Personally as a Knicks fan it seems like these 3 teams are all jumbled up with each other.
The Mavericks currently have every Knicks drafted in the first round from 2013-2017 on their roster (Timmy/Kristaps/Frank - Knicks didnβt have first rounders in 2014&2016). On top of that they also have Burke, Bullock and Theo Pinson all former Knicks in recent season. The Knicks have their 2023 pick. So from 2019-2023 Knicks and Mavs have had decent amount of connections.
The Hawks and Mavs are forever linked because of one 2018 trade which sent Hawksβ Luka Doncic to the Mavericks for Trae Young and a 2019 pick. That pick would become none other than Cam Reddish. For years the league will debate and evaluate the Luka for Trae deal and as long as these two stay competitive weβre gonna hear it for a long time.
Knicks-Hawks connection is newer but ramped up the last 8-10 months. Knicks-Hawks squared off in an infamous series for Knicks fans leading to some beef, but after the trade Knox for Reddish, Hawks and Knicks once against cross paths. NBA is aware of this brewing rivalry and made it a Christmas Day game.
Maybe Iβm over analyzing it but this connection is going through my head considering Iβm writing this inbetween the Knicks - Mavs game and the Knicks-Hawks game.
My goodness I couldnβt believe how easily he gets to the rim and you canβt stay in front of him. I obviously donβt watch thunder or Memphis games, but am I right that Gildeous is better than Ja?
Me and my girl planned our first real vacation after 2 years around the Mavs Knicks game tonight and yβall made it totally worth it. The atmosphere was electric from the start and the constant trash talk was genuinely refreshing coming from a city which generally has pretty tame corporate crowds. Above that, everyone we talked to at the game was awesome and honesty yβallβs shit talking was some of the funniest Iβve ever heard. Until the dude behind us (I wonβt name names, weβll just call him Luke, bc I heard him say his name was Luke) started directing most of his trash talk directly at us, even though we hadnβt even acknowledged his existence all game. Whatever though, we all got thick skin we can take some shit. But then after the game, despite getting curb stomped all night, we still respectfully were dapping up everyone in our section for being great sports all night but sure enough when we turn around to dap up Luke he goes βfuck thatβ and points at the score board like we didnβt just watch the same game. Anyways we wonβt let that detract from what was an wesome experience yβall gave us. RJ Barrett is an absolute beast. This city is wild and amazing, and yβall are one of the best fan bases Iβve experienced and I wish yβall the best throughout the season. Just not you, Luke β€οΈ.
It's amazing how this team has transformed defensively. Kidd, Sweeney and the rest of the coaching staff has done wonders.
Is it the defensive philosophy? Better schemes? Is it his relationship with the players and how they've bought in? Is it the defensive minded players like Bullock, DFS, etc? Is it just more effort from the players?
They've had their ups and downs but somehow, they've managed to turn their defense up and become one of the best defensive teams. I was skeptical at first but they have done it consistently. I thought it was unsustainable but it seems to only get better.
Whatever it's been... It's been a pleasure to watch and quite a ride.
Edit: During post game interview last night, when asked why their defense is one of the best, Sweeney said that:
Nice to hear from Assistant's point of view.
Shout-out to Stephen A Smith, Michael Wilbon, and Jalen Rose for all picking Ja over Luka to start a franchise around. Bonus points for calling Ja a lockdown defender and Luka a poor defender while Luka leads Ja in every advanced defensive stat available.
