A list of puns related to "Makhachkala"
I don't know if you have heard of radio garden. It's a beautiful website featuring the planet Earth and you scroll around and choose any radio station in the world.
Well I've been using this for the past few years and I've found some great stations in some rural areas in France and Sweden and so on.
But the one I keep coming back to is radio capital Makhachkala. It's a city in Dagestan, Russia which is all the more surprising for me.
They play some insane obscure chill tracks.
I Shazam them all the time and the songs have very few views on yt.
Enjoy! And I love you all.
Point to Dagestan on a map. Go on, i'll wait.
Yeah, same here - didn't have a Salomon Kalou, however for a brief period of time they were thrust into the spotlight signing some of the most iconic players in the game at that time. World Cup Winners, Brazilian's and Russian National Treasures.
For a brief period of time, it seemed entirely conceivable that Anzhi were going to be the next super club in Europe after being backed by extremely wealthy businessman Suleyman Kerimov.
They made the Europa League during this time and they were also flown 1200 miles to home matches, it was certainly a crazy time for all involved and spectators alike.
However, as you all know - things didn't pan out like that and now Dagestan is back to being known for its corruption, bribery and embezzlement scandals.
So where are they all now?
Anzhi made plenty high profile signings within these few transfer windows, lets look at them now.
Roberto Carlos
At the ripe old age of 37, Roberto Carlos was the first and possibly most high profile signing, joining on a free transfer from Corinthians. He made 25 appearances, all mostly inconsequential but he did get gifted a Bugatti Veyron from Kermiov for his 38th birthday. Eat your cake out, Yaya...
He retired for a few years after this, went to India and did what you'd expect for a 40+ veteran, not a lot.
Diego Tardelli
Having never really settled outside of Brazil, Tardelli joined for a reported 7.5million euros, failed to find the net in 13 appearances. Moved onto Al-Gharafa, then Atletico Miniero (where he was the most prolific in both times at the club) and finally moving to Shandong Luneng, in China where he still plays to date.
Mbark Boussoufa
Mbark had come off an extremely successful season in Belgium, winning the Golden Shoe after netting 14 goals and providing 24 assists which made him the most valuable player in Anderlecht's championship-winning squad. He was named Belgian Footballer of the Year for a second consecutive time and the third time overall. He signed for 8million euros and stayed from 2011 to 2013 and was extremely unremarkable. He then moved onto Lokomotiv Moscow, then KAA Gent and finally now he plays for Al-Jazira in the UAE. Another case of too much, too soon for another young prodigy.
Jucilei
This highly rated midfielder he stuck around longer than most playing for the club until their relegation in 2013-14.
Upon leaving Anzhi, Jucilei headed to the United Arab Emirates to pl

NEW EDIT: Chairman of the Anzhi's board of directors Konstantin Remchukov confirms on his twitter: https://twitter.com/KVRemchukov
The club is getting "reformatted" with the annual budget decreased to $50-70 mln (previously there were unconfirmed reports it was $180 mln).
The new coach is Gadzhi Gadzhiyev (who coached them during the "poor times"). Meulensteen not explicitly mentioned, but I would imagine he is fired, unless they want to keep him assisting Gadzhiyev???
"Expensive players" will leave.
Most Russian sports media are publishing reports to that effect:

There are different speculations as to why. One is that the owner Kerimov lost a lot of money recently due to some business issues, another that he was unhappy that there was no team spirit in the club (always some conflicts, newly acquired Russian national team captain Denisov left the team after just 2 games, apparently after a conflict with Eto'o, etc. etc.)
Edit: Relevant business news - Kerimov's wealth comes from Uralkali
> Fertilizer stocks were tumbling hard early Tuesday, on worries that moves by the worldβs largest potash producer will push down prices.
> Big potash producers were taking the brunt of the hit. Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan (POT) was falling 23% after the open, and Mosaic (MOS) tumbled 24%. Other fertilizer and agriculture companies were also taking a hit, with Agrium (AGU) down more than 7% and Monsanto (MON) slipping more than 3%.
> The problem is OAO Uralkali, the worldβs largest potash producer. Chief Executive Officer Vladislav Baumgertner said today that it was breaking up a sales venture with Belarus that had controlled 43% of global exports. That cartel was one of the worldβs largest, commanding around 70% of the global market.
> Uralkali is looking to grab market share in the new trading landscape it has created with the break, and said it will increase to consumers including China, which imports about a fifth of global supplies, after switching to its own unit, Uralkali Trading, the a joint venture.
> These changes could push prices down drastically, to less than $300 a ton by the en
