THE NEW YEAR LWT GAMES

It's that exciting time of the year again and there's no better way to kick off a new year than with a "Silly Arcade game" with a big prize?l!

Entries will be given to individuals holding at least 50 LWT tokens. Participants will not be required to spend these tokens, holding them is enough to qualify for an entry. You must hold the tokens for the duration of the game.

From an outside perspective:

First of all let me say, I still like the show. The difference I realized is that the show became way more focused on US specific topics. One could argue that the last long segment about expicit non-american topics was the one about China and the Uighurs, which was broadcasted 52 weeks ago.

Now I know of course that it's an american show and national shows seem to focus on national topics but there seems to have been a shift since the beginning of the pandemic. In 2019 topics varied far more (an example would be Mt. Everest, Boris Johnson and Gurbanguly Bernimuhamedov in the span five weeks or in 2018 saudi arabia and the brazilian election back to back).

What do you think about that and do you think it benefits the show or does it do more harm to the format?

How does one throttle an Lwt_stream.t?

I have a stream that calls expensive_function and that is constructed via a get function like this:

  let get () = ... Call expensive_function ... in
  Lwt_stream.from get

In order to not consume too many resources, I want to throttle the stream so I call expensive_function at most once per second, but if expensive_function takes more than a second I don't want to wait before starting the next computation. I.e., if I call Lwt_stream.get my_stream in a loop, the loop time should be max(computation_time, one_second) not computation_time + one_second.

I'm not sure how to do this, and I think part of it is the lazy semantics of Lwt (at least I think they're lazy). E.g. if I start a timer with Lwt_unix.sleep, the timer only advances while I'm waiting on it. The only way I know of to wait on multiple promises to finish is with Lwt.join, but that doesn't let you return values.

I'm quite confused, and any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

EDIT: I know there's a module called Lwt_throttle, but it has zero documentation I can find.

And specifically the companies that provide school lunches. The idea of kids being served undercooked slop from a lunch lady who hates her job (see: Billy Madison, The Simpsons, etc) is an understatement. The truth is much more horrifying.

The school lunch program at your local schools have most likely been replaced with a heartless corporation like Chartwells School Dining Services , which came under fire in New Jersey for treating the food under terrible conditions and then serving it to kids. At one high school it was so bad that the students actually staged a boycott of the terrible food they were being served.

I'd love to John Oliver do an expose on this, because this should not be allowed to happen. And these evil corporations should not be allowed to get away with it. At least the food being served at the Fyre Festival looked more appetizing than this. 🤮

I'd love to see John take down Dave Portnoy and his brand of toxic masculinity and the equally toxic frat boy culture that Barstool created that's seeping into every day life, and what a truly horrible and awful company Barstool really is. Aside from empowering frat boy douchebags, Barstool also treats its' employees and especially its' female employees like absolute garbage.

It's especially important now that MLB is trying to court Barstool as a broadcasting partner. It would be great for them to see that Mr. Portnoy and the Barstool brand are really dirty dealers.

What are some good options for performance (CPU / time) profiling an Lwt program? By "Lwt program" I mean nearly all the code runs inside an Lwt_main.run.

Context: I have a program that is too slow, and I want to know why. I'd be super happy knowing how much time is spent in each function.
