Lead Sulfide Puns

Hi,

I'm want to use Sodium Sulfide to do a batch of lead pre-screenings in my chemistry class. I want the students to bring some things from home like paint flakes, so we can test them. I'm loath to buy premade kits online when I know I could cheaply make up a batch from lab stock.

Disclaimers: Yes, I know this is a qualitative test, and it can also be fooled by other ions. I'm using this as an opportunity to introduce students to double replacement reactions and their role in water testing. I will discuss the possibility of interference from other metal ions with them.

I am also aware that Sodium Sulfide should be handled with care because it is corrosive. I'm planning on the students wearing gloves, goggles, and lab coats. We would handle it with the same care we take with NaOH. I only want to use it at the molarity that is found in over the counter lead testing kits, nothing crazy dangerous.

I grew up in NJ, love Newark, and hate subscribing to stereotypes about this state, but it's hard to ignore these frequent and egregious public health issues.

To briefly explain what will be an extremely lengthy post, alchemy appears to be a major theme in Elden Ring. Many other games and fantasy works borrow from the rich concepts and symbolism of alchemy and the magnum opus (the Great Work), but the influences in Elden Ring are so pervasive that the inhabitants of the world literally have alchemy references coming out of their asses (i.e., the Gold-Tinged Excrement item). There is a lot to examine, so I’ll cover the major points up front.

1. The Elden Ring logo can be compared to alchemy-related diagrams of creation/universal connection such as the tree of life, seen in numerous mythologies, and the Ripley Scroll, which illustrate the achievement of the fabled philosophers’ stone.
2. The player’s journey from lowly Tarnished to golden lord corresponds to alchemy’s magnum opus, where lead is literally or metaphorically turned to gold.
3. The “bloody wolf” identity of the Tarnished mirrors that of alchemy’s “grey wolf” (antimony), a “cooperative metal” capable of purifying gold.
4. Elden Ring’s Godrick and his kingdom Limgrave are symbolically linked to the first stage of the magnum opus, nigredo (darkness, decapitation, lion and serpent images).
5. Item descriptions point to lore that correlates with other important processes in alchemy, such as dissolution, separation, and the “chemical wedding.”
6. The leaked early concept map >!can be seen as a crucible containing the four classical elements and bearing signs of the seven alchemical operations to complete the magnum opus, as shown in Basil Valentine’s Azoth diagram.!<
7. Elden Ring’s fingers-and-hands motif can be connected to an alchemical diagram called The Hand of the Philosopher, which itself can be connected to ancient art objects like the Hand of Sabazius and the Egyptian two-finger amulet.

If you are of the opinion that looking too hard for clues ahead of time can spoil your enjoyment later, viewing any of the posted content is not recommended. As many of you know, despite being cured from PSSD for a few months now, I still dedicate much of my time towards helping people with PSSD and researching the gut connection. I believe that I now have a (nearly) complete etiology of PSSD, hence the reason for this post. To start, I want to establish the connection between PSSD/PAS/PFS, CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome), and Covid Longhaul. I began looking into CFS when my PSSD fatigue was getting bad and that was the first time I noticed all the similarities (however many other researchers have noticed these similarities as well). After I had cured myself by treating my SIBO, I began to notice that SIBO also has a very high prevalence in the CFS community. Sure enough, I had even found cases and stories of people curing their CFS after a corrective mechanism to the gut (change in diet, fmt, probiotics, etc). I doubt many of you know what Covid Longhaul is, but it is essentially a CFS/PSSD-type state that people can go into AFTER getting covid. Just like with CFS and PSSD, some recover and their symptoms go away and some don’t recover at all. It is common knowledge that viruses (such as covid) are capable of altering the gut microbiome so this is another clue that points to Covid Longhaul being a gut issue. You already know (from my previous post) that SSRIs can alter the gut microbiome and leave it with reduced diversity. If you do not know what the MMC (migrating motor complex) is, look into it. It is the muscle mechanism that the gut uses to digest food and move bacteria and fungi out of the small intestine. Gut motility describes the ability of the MMC to perform its job. There are many different factors that affect gut

   1. Treatment of warts and corns usually in the form of a caustic pencil. The silver compound silver nitrate, is widely used, and is formed by reacting silver with nitric acid.
   2. SilverCoat Foley catheters are used in urology to prevent urinary tract infections from catheter use. Canadian company Covalon is pushing the boundaries on medical technologies that saves lives. This SilverCoat technology is one of them.
   3. Use in Radiology, silver halides are still being used in conventional x-ray film as an image receptor. Many third-world countries that don’t have access to advanced technology use this type of x-ray.
   4. Silver is used in bandages and dressings to prevent the spread of infection. There is also many uses as gels and ointments for minor scrapes and cuts.
   5. Surgical mesh. 3D Silver mesh to aid in support the organs or tissues during surgery. Loosely woven sheets made of either 3D gold or 3D silver.
   6. Conjunctivitis drops for newborn babies. Silver nitrate has been used for a long time as drops for newborns to prevent pink eye. However, this is slowly being replaced by modern antibiotics such as erythromycin.
   7. Prevent cavities with the use of silver diamine fluoride. Kids and cavities go hand in hand, so what better way to prevent that than with a little silver. Reported by DentistryIQ.
   8. Silver needles & sutures used by surgeons to close up wounds. This was first discovered in the early 1900’s by a man named Reuben Ottenberg.
   9. Silver bearing coatings for hip joint implants named as SMART-HIP. Bearings such as these, not only aid in preventing infection in implants but also reduce friction by silver’s self-lubrication for longer use and durability.
   10. Dental fillings are often composed of liquid mercury along with powder mixture of silver, copper, and tin to give it that ‘silver’ look.
   11. NASA utilized silver ions as a lightweight water purifier for the Apollo spacecraft. Instead of using traditional chlorine, NASA employed silver ions to be released in the water to destroy bacteria which is later then filtered out. Using a combination of copper and silver ions revealed to be effective in killing E. Coli, Staph, Strep, Salmonella and other common bacteria. I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. What is wrong with Tom Emmer? I would like to start my section on what I would do if I ran for Congress by showing you transcripts from two planned Commercials when I was a consultant for a Congressional Candidate against Tom Emmer:

He cites the Bible when he tried to ban Same-Sex Marriages; yet, the Bible says (Leviticus 19:18) “love thy neighbor as thyself.” The hypocrite says he is supportive of his fellow hypocrite; yet, (Proverbs 29:12) “If a ruler leads to falsehood, all his officials will be wicked.” Isn’t it smart to beat the hypocrite and put in a leader? “

Unlike Dusty Johnson, Tom Emmer is not a great Republican for Congress. While one can disagree with Dusty on certain policies such as abortion and tax cuts, Dusty at-least is well-intentioned. Not Tom Emmer. From an economic standpoint, Emmer’s views on mining are flawed. The environmental impact is obvious. Emmer authored a bill in Minnesota that would have opened the area between the BWCAW and Lake Superior to sulfide mining, which would have ruined two watersheds by using mining that would have done damage significantly to the environment.

A few years ago, most Republicans in Congress voted on a bill which would have reversed an FCC privacy rule called “net neutrality.” In other words, Internet Service Providers could maintain a monopoly on the Internet, sell browsing data to companies, and, charge exorbitant prices on their product without regulation from the FCC. For Protium: I pour some dilute HCl inside a small bottle and add some Aluminium foil. There was some bubbles at the beginning though, and so I just closed it immediately. And then I returned back and some of the HCl leaks out. Honestly I'm very frightened that time when I accidentally spilled some on my hands. So I just take another bottle which is much, much bigger and put the small bottle in to prevent any leaks or Hydrogen gas escaping away.
