A list of puns related to "Japanese Street Fashion"
Risk-taking as Japanese donβt shy away from mixing and matching prints and adorning kitschy accessories.
2021 Japanese fashion trends are inspired by Tokyoβs everyday life and styles, particularly Harajuku streets; bold colors, oversized proportions, experimental layers, clashing prints, and tactile materials.
Spearheaded byΒ streetwear brandsΒ like BAPE and HARE, known for complex materials and dramatic silhouettes, Japanese fashion trends are taking over the global fashion runways.
As local designers never gave up their heritage, Japanese fashion trends amalgamate traditional couture, materials, and styles to create modern fashion statements.
Expect new clothing styles like plaids on plaids, chic clogs, and patent leather jackets, blended and reimagined in Harajuku ways, often attainable barely by the bold ones.
If anything, these daring stylistic ensembles prove that thereβs a formula to copy and nail the current Japanese fashion trends.

To expand, I want to completely overhaul my wardrobe. I've had almost nothing but sweatpants, T-shirts, and basketball shorts except for a couple suits and dress clothes since I was a kid. I'm 28 and I'm ready for a change.
I really like the look of Japanese street wear and would love to emulate that style but I'm not really sure where to start since I'm not really sure I have an eye for what looks good. I've looked through and have set up an Amazon Japan account and got a few things from there but kinda feel lost on what looks good and what would suit me.
I'm new here and I hope you guys might could help. And hopefully I've posted properly.
This post by u/Shikarosez got me thinking, and I thought maybe you folks would enjoy a site I used to use in high school (well, it's the evolution of a site I used to use) for fashion ideas. I grew up near the Shibuya area, and was there a lot, whether commuting to school, hanging out with friends, shopping, etc.
The site is Style Arena, and it has street snaps (basically impromptu photos of people's fashion on the street), and breaks it down into areas. It includes Shibuya, Harajuku, and Omotesando (Shibuya and Harajuku you'll probably recognize from the game, Omotesando is literally one block over from the Tokyu Plaza area in the game). I like it too because you can search by gender, season, age, among other things. When you view a photo it also gives you a small bio of the person, which is interesting. There is an option to browse in English too at the top right.
Since fashion is such a big part of the TWEWY series, I hope you enjoy! Please keep in mind that these photos don't represent the cities 100% accurately, it is just people that are dressed interestingly, though not all of them are outrageously dressed. I'm sorry if my English is not great, as you can guess it's not my first language.
Japanese street fashion is very vast and colourful. There are a lot of different styles. Draw some.
You can read more about it here.

Here is the 2021-2022 guide on Japanese fashion trends for fall-winter.Much of the information is going to be the same as last year's guide, however I am writing a new one because most of the links last year have since died because I was dumb enough not to re-upload them to imgur. Also my apologies for writing this late, as many have requested one, and I always tell myself to write by December, but I forget and am reminded when I see the nominations for the year thred (thanks to all of you who supported my spring/summer thread!).
Who am I?
I'm just some old fart who lives in Japan and travels all over the country because I am a civil engineer doing various projects across the country. I've been to all 47 prefectures, and regularly commute between the Tohoku region, Kanto region, Nagoya, and Kyushu (sometimes all within the same week, albeit slightly less so due to the pandemic).
This guide is based on my own personal observations living here and traveling through out the country.
Japan is a country of uniforms
Just some background information on Japanese society. This is a world where things are much more uniformed than many other societies. I mean that in both the fashion sense and the societal sense. In terms of fashion, children usually need to wear some kind of school uniform as kids. When they enter a company, there tends to be stricter dress codes as well, resulting in very similar looks (this of course varies by industry, but there's far more uniformity in the work place here than say in the US). This leaves college as the time to experiment and express oneself in finally being able to wear what you want to wear. However instead, many people follow the same exact trends across the country. It's so bad that Suzuki? had a commercial mocking the uniformity of youth fashion, where a group of young guys all wearing the same overcoat with hoodie underneath, met up with girls all wearing the same thing. In the end the commercial pushed one of the guys to break off and find his "individuality" by riding off into the sunset.
Since what one wears often equates to socio-economic background, your type of friends, etc, Japanese will often judge and assume who you are based on your fashion choices (at least more so than elsewhere). For example, if you wear a lot of black on black, or generally a dark color
... keep reading on reddit β‘After recently studying abroad in Japan, I've developed an interest in Japanese fashion. There aren't any images in the Japanese streetwear sidebar thread (which I recommend reading, because it gives good background on fashion in Japan), so I figured this would be an album I would enjoy putting together.
I think this album gives a good representation of street fashion in Japan, specifically Harajuku, Shibuya, and Shinjuku in Tokyo. These are the areas where the most interesting and diverse trends stem from. There are many different styles in Japan and I tried to capture a good mix of them in this album - both male and female, although the album's emphasis is on men because this is, of course, malefashionadvice.
Personally, I really love Japanese fashion. It is so creative and intriguing - I feel like there is no limit to what can be done with it. My favorite aspects of fashion in Japan are the silhouettes created by some of the outfits, playing with colors and patterns in ways that would be unimaginable in the West, and in some cases, the shear simplicity of an outfit.
If there is any interest in a specific Japanese style, I would be more than happy to try and put together an album of that one in particular.
Also, if anybody is interested, here is a small album of some pictures I took while in Japan.
I hope these images find some of you well! I would be interested in hearing what you do / don't like about Japanese street fashion.
Disclaimer: I'm not from America.
Recently, I've read multiple op-eds that decry the prep look as out of touch, showy and pretentious, even though there's nothing in the clothes themselves that are too objectionable. The look can be gotten for cheap at uniqlo or for much more at designer boutiques, but it's fundamentally democratic, tasteful and doesn't scream look at me, I'm ballin with a huge logo plastered over the front.

On the other hand, you see more and more 20-30 somethings dressed like this...I understand that streetwear is mainstream, but openly flaunting your luxury clothing that costs a few grand doesn't seem to attract as much criticism as the look above. I want to understand why preps are considered douchebags while hypebeasts have social currency, or are even considered 'cool'...
Isn't wearing loud designer clothing top to toe the ultimate way of showing off, or am I missing something?

I am sure many of you saw my thread in MFA, and as promised, here is an FFA equivalent. As I recommended in the MFA post, I advise reading through this Japanese streetwear thread.
This album is of similar size, and once again, I tried to keep things interesting and diverse: street fashion, cosplayers, visual kei, lolitas, decora, gyaru, etc. The majority of these images are also from the fashion districts in Tokyo such as Harajuku, Shibuya, and Shinjuku.
As far as street fashion is concerned, hopefully this album exemplifies some of what is currently "in" right now, for example: printed tights, platform shoes, bright dyed hair, and pannier skirts. Many of these pieces are homemade and many are purchased from small designer shops throughout Japan. Much like male fashion in Japan, female fashion is characterized by heavy layering, interesting silhouettes, and a willingness to experiment with just about anything.
Anyways, I hope you all enjoy this album! Feel free to discuss what you do and don't like about any of these looks.
I don't remember much more, the video clip was at night and involving cars or something?
