EllaTheCat's guide (REF1) to using ssh from termux with tasker has been well received. It included reference to remote control of the 'mpv' media player running on rpi4 or PC. Since then Ella has discovered the mpv JSON IPC protocol that can be used to operate mpv instances from Tasker.

Is anybody interested in and able to create an mpv user interface (skin, front end) to run on Tasker?

I'm suggesting this because I'm an engineer and "as everyone knows" engineer-designed user interface aesthetics suck. I can define how messages are exchanged, I can document what the messages are, but I can't do a nice look'n'feel.

I intend to develop the engine (backend). The bulk of the work is bashing in the messages as code. To date I've built "mpvTool" that lets you load a video into mpv and test messages: pause/play, seek forward/reverse, show text onscreen. My UI for this is dreadful, it's dialog box abuse.

Of course there are skins for media players already. So who would want that chore,making a me-too skin for mpv like it's 1999? Mabe they haven't thought about Tasker and AutoApps! What about a voice controlled TV/PVR? gesture controlled PVR? on-screen text chat?

mpvTool might be on Taskernet, I sometimes put a backup on there. I'm testing what I have done at the moment, with a view to sharing soon.

Hello all, I moved school districts and my new high school has 4 different "communities" that students can choose from: STEM, Media, Business, and Medical. I've been assigned to teach IPC to the media students. I feel like there's a lot of opportunity for fun assignments and projects, but I'm not very creative. I know I want to frame interpreting graphs and articles as a way for them to correctly convey what they say as journalists, etc. but other than that, I'm at a loss. Forty percent of the eligible population have now received their booster shot.

We are strongly recommending boosters for anyone over the age of 18 who had their second vaccine dose at least four months ago.

Vaccination remains our key defence against all variants of COVID-19 including Omicron.

Today we are reporting 65 people at the border with COVID-19. New Zealand continues to see a large number of border cases arriving from overseas, reflecting the growing number of Omicron cases globally.

Omicron update

To date, there are 196 Omicron COVID-19 cases detected at the border since 1 December, and 11 cases of the Delta variant.

There are also 217 COVID-19 cases caught at the border that are still undergoing Whole Genome Sequencing. The expectation is that the vast majority will be the Omicron variant.

During the same period, more than 18,000 people have arrived and been processed through Managed Isolation and Quarantine facilities

New Zealand has taken steps to manage the risk of a community Omicron outbreak linked to border cases, including increasing the period overseas arrivals must spend in MIQ, and shifting the focus of whole genome sequencing to areas of most risk, such as for any cases in border workers.

The MIQ system exists to catch cases at the border. Managed isolation and quarantine facilities are well set up to care for Omicron cases and protect the community. The staff at facilities are experienced in managing and caring for positive cases.

All Managed Isolation and Quarantine facilities follow very strict Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) measures developed by the Ministry of Health to manage the risks of spreading COVID-19. People in MIQ undergo regular routine testing.

All travellers arriving into New Zealand require a pre-departure test. Travellers must receive their test 48 hours prior to travel. Travellers also must complete four tests while in managed isolation. This testing regime provides an extra level protection to our existing border measures.

With the recent drama over the “hate” alleged by the “official sub of India”, I want to educate my fellow Indiaverse redditors about a very easy method to complaining about anti-national activities to the Ministry of home Affairs. I am very surprised to see the widespread ignorance on the issue itself, especially since the news of this cyber crime portal was shared on every subreddit and still people seem to be ignorant as to how to file a complaint.

So I decided to make a primer for the people concerned with the rabid anti-national and separatist activities on the “official” and its allied subs and finally want to take some action against it.

What comes under the ambit of such a complaint?

Any social media including Reddit comes under it. Especially subreddits that claim to be “the Official Subreddit for India” and have picture up Indian flag and claim to stand for “Unity” come under it.

Separatist activity, anti-national activity, calls for “peaceful protests” that end up causing thousands of crores of losses for the government also comes under it.

Look out for people who always call for an “azaad Kashmir”, “Khalistan” and “balkanization of India”. Any subreddit that encourages these activities is prime real estate for such a complaint.

Why should I complain to the government?

If they can call for protests that clog arterial highways for years and defend protests that lead to desecration of Amar Jawan monument and defend riots which causes deaths and damage to public property, the least you can do is lodge a simple complaint to the cyber crime division.

The portal was specially set up for vigilant citizens who have witnessed a rise in subversive activities against India on social media. Any sane individual on Reddit can see the amount of hate against the hindus by calling us “gaumutra drinkers”, encouragement of Love Jehad, and portrayal of Hindu devis in vulgar forms. All this supposedly comes under FOS and are rarely taken down.

If they can go to their gora sahibs at TIME AND WaPo and cry about hAtE sUBbReddiTs, then the least you can do is file a complaint with the Indian Home Ministry that works for you. Do your bloody duty.

I was interviewed for a ID Manager position recently. SaaS startup with operations in India, US and EU. One of the rounds was a panel interview, where we discussed my assignment. Here's the assignment description:

Build 10-minute course on Introduction to non-disclosure agreement. The course needs to be interactive. Needs to have a reinforcement questions. Target audience: New hires (technical and non-technical people, including freshers and tenured managers).

I built a micro-learning module in Rise, with interactivities and in-line questions (knowledge checks). It had 3 lessons and a summary. Also created a presentation explaining my approach and listing my assumptions. Also suggested an alternate approach if the seat time of the course was longer than 10 minutes.

Usually, I include videos in my assignment, but this was the first time I did not include a video since it was a 10 minute module.

Unfortunately, the panel was expecting video(s) within the module. And while I was able to justify my approach, it's got me thinking, is it really important to have videos for all lessons? Does it really make sense to have 2 minute videos in a 10 minute module?

Has anyone else experienced this during interviews or day to day work? I would love to hear from you all!

P.S: I'm yet to hear from the HR, but I don't think the panel was pleased with my no-video approach. :P

TLDR: I am thinking about booking complaints against WhatsApp uncles for spreading fake messages under IPC section 505 (1)B. What do you think the outcome will be?

I just saw a fake WhatsApp message circulating around claiming that a Bollywood actor's son getting what he deserved by police which is obviously fake (as most of them always are).

I do not have anyone who personally sends me such messages or in our family group that I am part of, because of the past experience of them with me questioning everything. They refrain from forwarding messages in the group that I am there. But, I got to know that they have a separate group of like-minded people who are flooding these types of messages.

Having said that, let me be clear that I have no soft corner for any person based on their religion/race/caste. All I care about is the fact of the matter.

Anyways, Digging around I found out that spreading fake news can be booked under IPC section 505 (1)B for forwarding/spreading/sharing fake messages on social media platforms.

IPC Section 505 (1)B: Statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred or ill-will between classes. Whoever makes, publishes or circulates any statement or report containing rumour or alarming news with intent to create or promote, or which is likely to create or promote, on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, caste or community or any other ground whatsoever, feelings of enmity, hatred or ill-will between different religious, racial, language or regional groups or castes or communities, shall be punished with imprisonment which may extend to three years, or with fine, or with both.

If my personal experience is to go by, I know that these WhatsApp warriors will be shitting bricks in their pants when they get a call from the police, let alone calling them to the station for an enquiry.

My possible solution is that we should give mass complaints under this section to all our known miscreants and make sure that they get called into the police station to just give justification about their actions, I hope that this would reduce the number of messages being spread to a great extent.
