A list of puns related to "Interisland"
I usually do a one-day fly away whenever I go back to Oahu, and wanted to give visitors an idea of what you can realistically do on a one-day trip.
Key points:
Kauai
Take the first flight from HNL to LIH (around 6:00am) if possible, but these flights usually cost more than the third or fourth flight.
Breakfast at Tip Top Cafe (Loco Moco baby~)
Kauai Backcountry for Mountain Tubing. The first tour of the day is at 8:00am.
Two options at this point:
Option A
4a. Go up to Princeville and stop at Kilauea Lighthouse on the way.
5a. Zipline tour at Princeville Ranch Adventures.
Option B
4a. Go to Kilohana Plantation. Shop, check out the rum factory store, ride the train if that tickles your fancy.
4b. ATV tour at Kipu Ranch Adventures.
At this point, it is around 4pm, and the last flight out of Lihue is 6:30PM, so if you took Option A, haul your ass back to Lihue, and stop for like takeout poke or plate lunch along the way.
If you took Option B, you should have time for a quick dinner before heading back to the airport.
Maui
This was a solo trip, and I got everywhere by walking or Uber, but if I had a car (and didn't insist on getting guri guri which didn't open till 10am), I would have been able to have some free beach time.
I took the 2nd flight out of Oahu (7:20am), but I could have taken the third one (8:25am). If you have a car, take the first flight for more flexibility.
Uber to Jack's Inn for breakfast
Walked to Maui Mall to get guri guri from Tasaka's, and hit up Longs for sunscreen since I didn't have a small container of it to bring over.
Uber to Maui Ocean Center and spent a little over two hours there. The 3D immersive whale presentation was really freaking good.
Walked over to Maalaea Harbor to go on an afternoon snorkel cruise to Coral Gardens. Lots of options here with Alii Nui, Four Winds, Calypso, etc. and they all depart around 1:00PM
I was done around 5:00PM and ordered an Uber to do two stops, one at Tin Roof (I ordered in advance for pick-up) and then to OGG. I had booked the last flight out (8:50PM) just to be safe, but since I got there extra early, I took the earli
Moving to/from the mainland Iβve used priority mail flat rate boxes, but wondering if there is a cheaper way to ship since the distance is so much shorter.
What have you all used? Southwest flights are so cheap i am considering filling Home Depot moving boxes and checking them as luggage, and just flying back and forth to move stuff since they include 2 free checked bags.
Just landed in LIH from HNL and walked right out without any checks or pre screens. Looks like the June 15 changes are in effect and when traveling between islands, there are no more COVID tests or safe travels required.
Also picked up rental car around 3pm with Hertz post paid and there was no line. Got out with a car in 10 minutes. If you are a Hertz Gold Member, they will have a car reserved for you already.
We're a couple with one cat due to move from North Island to Christchurch.
I've been asking around for quotes from moving companies to get an estimate for the cost. Price ranges from 3,000 to 5,000, which is a lot more expensive than I had anticipated. It's only a two bedroom unit, and we don't really have much furniture. However, moving by ourselves isn't a viable option as we only have a hatchback.
Should we try to sell everything and buy new once we're down in the South Island, or go with the moving companies? Anyone had similar experience that wouldn't mind sharing how you did it?
This question is going out to all the workers who bounce around the islands.
How are you handling transportation when you get to the neighbor island?
Rental cars are booked up till mid August if you want a half way decent price (sub 300 dollars a day, hahahahaha)
Turo isn't much better by the time you add insurance to the cost of rental. Plus I see alot of owners backing out a couple days before the trip would happen, which would screw up alot of scheduling and coordination needed for what I do.
It's almost to the point I'm considering buying a car and finding a place to park it on Maui and BI for the next year or so. Maybe I can buy a folding electric bike and carry it on.. I'm desperate..
Anyway I'd love to hear suggestions.
So I will be traveling from HNL to LIH on 6/15 at noon. From my understanding, with the new rules, I will no longer need a 72 COVID test prior to departing HNL?
I have a COVID test scheduled on 6/12, is it safe to cancel so I can get my refund back as I shouldn't need the test anymore?
Also what will I need to do on my Safe Travel Account, I currently have my HNL to LIH trip, can I just delete that trip from my Safe Travels Account, or should I leave it. Will I just be able to walk out of the airport at LIH like old times, no screening no nothing? Will the rental car company ask for a QR code even though I am interisland traveling?
I did Walgreens rapid for my first COVID test from NYC to HNL. Walgreens was free and got results within a couple of hours and had no issues uploading to safe travels.
Now Iβm going from HNL to Maui and did the PCR covid test at Diagnostic Laboratory Services in Downtown, Honolulu. My appointment was this past Wednesday at 3:30pm. Got my results back by Thursday 8:30pm. So about a 29hr turnaround. Also had no issues uploading to safe travels.
The PCR test at DLS was $125 which is still cheaper than CVS, urgent cares and the national kidney center. The appointment was also a breeze, in and out in literally 5mins.
Hope this helps!

I want to reserve a place on a ferry from orcas to anacortes and next to the time I want it says "no interisland vehicles" can anyone tell me what that means? Thank you
Hi everyone!
My husband and I are traveling from Maui to Kauai mid-May. Iβve reviewed the trusted interisland partners and have been trying to figure out which is best. Does anyone have any personal experience with Minit Medical? I heard Diagnostic Laboratory Services has a quick turnaround time as well. Anyone have experience with those 2 or any others theyβd recommend? Thanks in advance!
I stayed in Honolulu for a week and got the PCR test Friday, hoping to fly Saturday (today). Results arenβt back yet, but according to the Kauai County site we can self quarantine on Kauai until the results come in. Our host says heβs not allowed to do this (and wonβt refund us any nights) but he also wasnβt aware of the interisland self quarantine. Anyone have experience with this?

Edit: For future readers, you cannot quarantine at a short term rental even if youβre inter-island traveling and waiting for your test results. You can go to a normal hotel for quarantining and will be released once you upload your results to Safe Travels. This is not explicit in the travel rules, but comes from the overlapping of the policy above as well as this policy. This has nothing to do with TransPacific travel to Kauai.
Hello all,
We will be in Maui May 1-May 8. We will be flying RT to Oahu for a wedding on May 4 (outbound at 7am, inbound 9pm). Looking at the testing requirements, it seems we will need a 72-hour test to return to Maui. What is our best location/strategy for getting the test to ensure we can complete the RT flight?
Live on Oahu, going to Kauai for the weekend. I'll have a negative test on Oahu, but do I need to get a 2nd negative test again on Kauai for the way back to Oahu? Or are travelers from Kauai to Oahu not subject to quarantine regardless?
Also, I have already been fully vaccinated, but I got it on the mainland and I guess the state only accepts vaccinations from Hawaii...
Wanting to spend some time on Maui in a couple months. From my understanding, you book an appointment within 3 days of your flight through an approved testing site? Just curious to see if anyone has done it on island and has recommendations of where to go. Doesn't sound like results are guaranteed within three days based on some of the websites I visited, (which I'm assuming means you quarantine at your destination waiting for the negative result if so...).
Mahalo!
