During the Spanish conquest of Peru, cavalry achieved a tremendous military advantage for the Spaniards, yet the indigenous Inca people were known for using extremely long weaponry. To what extent was fear a bigger factor in their demise than actual military disadvantage?

In The Reports on the Discovery of Peru Markham states that the Inca people used weapons as long as 6,3 meters and that the Spaniards were at an extreme numerial disadvantage. One would think that long range weapons like lances and spears would be effective against the Spanish cavalry. Especially combined with the numerial advantage.

In Conquistadors Wood states that the fear of horses was immense. And in Letters from Mexico it is said that the Inca people actually ran away in fear at the mere sight of horses.

I'm aware of the other factors for the demise of the Inca Empire as stated by Jared Diamond in Guns Germs and Steel but I'm talking about individual battles here - was the numerial advantage in combination with long weapons not enough to outweigh the fear the Incas had of horses?
