A list of puns related to "I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles"
The Library of Congress (U.S.) just launched a beta version of a DJ tool for mixing music with old recordings in the public domain. It is called Citizen DJ and wascreated by one of the libraryβs Innovators in Residence, Brian Foo. Here it is: https://labs.loc.gov/work/experiments/citizen-dj/
On one of my first clicks, I came across a 1919 version of I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles and, of course, I thought of West Ham.
I tracked down the page with the song. Here it is: https://www.loc.gov/item/00694054/
I think this is the first published version of the song. Here is the wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I%27m_Forever_Blowing_Bubbles
I figured you all would be interested in hearing it and perhaps using the recording for some hype videos (e.g., https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDIqgABloTg).
Pretty bubbles in the air!
Important to note I'm actually a visiting non-West Ham fan (not trying to troll, this post is a genuine question) and don't know the full history behind the song.
But this is the line that always gets my attention:
> They fly so high,
Nearly reach the sky,
Then like my dreams,
They fade and die.
So basically West Ham fans constantly sing about their dreams being crushed.
Who thought it was a good idea to have a song with this line as the club anthem? Wouldn't it have been better to choose a song about not giving up or something?
I'm aware from looking it up that that the song was introduced by a former manager who knew a player nicknamed 'Bubbles', but did he not stop and think about the part about dying dreams?
Or is this line actually a lot less negative than I thought it was? Someone please educate me if I've misunderstood it
