A list of puns related to "Honors Programs"
Not my post, but the original author didn't have a reddit account. You can find a summary of events and a petition here: https://letrosswrite.com.
I'm a first-year student and I just got an email with an invitation to join the University Honors Program (UHP). I would like to join but I'm not really sure what it entails. There is an informational session in the beginning of February, but those are always trying to sell the program to you.
Is there anyone else who was invited who has thoughts, someone who is/has been in the program? I would love to hear from personal experience!
Stop making grades your identity, youβre going to burn out quickly
I was never on Deans list, just BARELY got a 3.0 the quarter before grad apps, no job experience, very little internship experience (less than a quarter). According to Tik Tok I should be homeless because I got a Bachelor of Arts, and not of science.
I got accepted into 5 of the 6 graduate schools I applied to (a mix of UCs and CSUs), got my teaching credential in June, and Iβm about to get my Masterβs in Education this May.
I got a teaching job at a good middle school in the Bay, with great people, respectful students, and a great starting salary. 70k for a completely new teacher with no prior experience.
When my students complain about the difference between an A- and an A, I can see a lot of depression, self hatred, and burnout in their future. These are often also the students with the worst social skills
Thereβs more to life than grades guys. Please show yourself some love.
Im taking 18 credits this semester and my workload is a lot. The program only meets once a week but I just donβt see a lot of benefits to being in the program anymore.
Iβm currently enrolled in a honors program that I really regret attending. Initially, it was my dream school when applying for colleges, but now after 3 years, I feel so overwhelmed. I feel so overwhelmed with the endless academic and extracurricular events that are mandated to be completed. Iβm currently a junior and I still have no fucking idea how Iβm going to complete it all. All the perks that were so elusive to me during freshman year are just fucking bullshit now. I feel like thereβs ZERO perks to attending the honors college. I couldβve received every benefit that was advertised just as a regular student too. Everyday, I just think about dropping out of this program so I wouldnβt need to deal with anymore bullshit requirements, but Iβm already a junior. Iβve endured through this for almost 3 years now, so whatβs one more year to me? But I literally have zero motivation
Worse of all, I feel so disconnected and isolated from my peers. I just feel like Iβm having so much trouble clicking with them and befriending them.
Rant over
Has anyone received their notification that theyβve been accepted to the Rutgers honors program for 2022 fall semester? What are the requirements for a typical incoming freshman to that program? When are announcements made about who has been accepted to the honors program?
I was just invited to the university honors and scholars program cause of my performance this semester and I wanted to know if it's worth it and what the difference between the honors and scholars programs is since they're two different things, also just generally how hard either program is. Any help would be appreciated!
is the honors program worth it? iβm confused on what it necessarily entails. can anyone explain :)
Hello CU Boulder! I got accepted into the mechanical engineering program yesterday, and since then, I've been looking into the EHP program. It sounds like it could be a cool experience for me, but I do have one concern I can't find an answer for: if I apply and am accepted, what is the usual deadline to confirm enrollment in EHP? I have some other schools I'm applying to RD, and want to be keep the option open of attending those, without losing the chance to do EHP, should I want to. Couldn't find anything on the cu boulder/ehp website that gave a specific date or even general time. I applied to CU Boulder via EA (out of state). Thanks!
EDIT: forgot to include this initially, what are the perks of being in EHP? I know Andrews Hall is in a good location on campus, but is there anything else?
Theyβre making me take all these extra classes in random subjects that I donβt care about. I just finished my first semester and they forced us to take a writing seminar about covid, and the professor for that is supposed to be my academic advisor until I declare a major (which isnβt allowed as a freshman). This prof is a public health/bio teacher who knows absolutely nothing about the history and political science departments. And my senior year, I have to do a year-long final project on top of my major thesis but I donβt get to choose the department or the topic. I could end up stuck with a shitty class again that I canβt drop and that gets me nowhere, and itβll be hard to manage on top of writing a huge research paper for my major. I wish someone had told me how dumb this program is and showed me how to opt out.
TL;DR: My collegeβs honors program is just mandatory extra classes that donβt interest me and have a lot of work. I feel misled and I want to drop it.
Greetings all. Iβve been considering whether ASU is where Iβd like to go. Today, I received an invitation to the Honors Program, and I would appreciate being able to speak to any alumni who were in it, so I can get a good idea of what itβs about and how much it will benefit me.
Stuck between these schools as of now - any help would be much appreciated. I'll be majoring in neuroscience and psychology. Interested in exploring CS, Business, and the humanities.
Tulane Pros:
- Received 25k scholarship per year
- Better for premed (Fewer students competing for the same opportunities, more/better premed advising, TPM offers conditional acceptance to med school if I get in, etc)
- Prefer the seclusion of this campus (and its nicer IMO)
- Might be easier to maintain a high GPA???
- Open Curriculum (much more course flexibility and easy to change majors, explore other fields, etc)
- Got into Honors Scholars Program (not sure if it means much)
- Commitment to service learning strongly aligns with my values
- Liked the vibe on campus
- Smaller campus so it might be easier to make friends
- Better recognized name in the medical community?
- Better food/more dining options (am vegetarian so this is huge)
- More selective (so more prestige??? idk)
- Better student life??? (according to Princeton review but I don't respect their rankings)
- smaller class sizes so more interaction with profs
Cons:
- Still expensive: Forgot to apply for other merit scholarships so the cost will be around 30-35k a year assuming I don't get more aid
- Reputation not as good as UT
- Big party school and greek life(I'm an introvert and would like to stay away from the same)
- Pretty far away from home so driving isn't an option
- Prefer Austin though NOLA is a great place to spend 4 years too
- Very low student diversity (though Tulane is aggressively taking steps to change this)
- Weaker academics? Tulane and UT are around the same ballpark in national rankings but Tulane is nearly 400 places behind in global rankings (usnews and qs). Ik rankings don't mean much but this is a noticeable difference.
- Doesn't accept as much credit as UT
UT Austin pros:
- Love Austin
- Closer to home (so driving home on weekends is an option)
- In-state tuition (15-20k cheaper per year)
- Love plan II's curriculum
- Accepts more credit hours than Tulane so graduating early is an option
- More diverse than Tulane (ethnically but Tulane would have more geographical diversity)
- Stronger academics?
- Better weather but neither are particularly great imo
UT Austin cons:
- Very large student body (might be less of a person and more of a number to the school). Might be harder to make friends as an introvert
- Less of a camp

ex- hunter freshman honors scholar program
I am a biotech major (freshman), and I just got invited to UHP. Is the program worth it? What are any benefits or drawbacks? I would appreciate any thoughts you have to offer!
Iβm a first year student who has completed some requirements for the program. Iβm just burnt out and just want to get my degree at this point. Thinking about doing the minimum to just get by. By that I mean not being stressed out about GPA and so on. But I also challenge myself too much so I wanted some opinions on the program on if it was worth it in the long run. I know the classes themselves arenβt suppose to be difficult but is it worth it overall? Any actual benefits to those who did it or just a personal achievement?
π₯² I don't know what to feel about this. I had a terrible semester so my GPA kinda dropped, and because of this i no longer qualify.
I honestly don't feel that bad since the program itself seemed like extra work with no direct benefits and i didn't really make any friends in the program (they were kinda fake). On the other hand, now it seems like all the extra work i put in for the program is going to waste, i have to remake my schedule for the Spring π’, and the biggest pain is going to be telling my parents about it.
I guess i just want some reassurance or other people's experience to work through this.
Hey everyone, I was accepted to plan ii and thereβs a good chance Iβm going to UT, how do you current plan ii students like the program? Iβve heard really good things but I donβt personally know anyone whoβs been in it. especially for premed
Iβm an auto admit and got rejected for cs and business as my major. When I click on my honors tab for mystatud it still shows they are reviewing the application. Does this mean I still have a chance?
How does the Honors program work? I was recently admitted for Fall 2022 but I donβt see where to apply? And what even is the Honors Program? What are the benefits? Do you get scholarships? Thanks!
Hi, folks! Iβm an undergrad student. (2) days ago, I had a meeting with my academic advisor to discuss my schedule. I realized recently that I want to be a professor in the future. I discussed this with my advisor. We had a conversation about the honors program at my college and writing an undergrad thesis.
After looking into the program more, I decided to apply. The issue is the timeline. The semester starts on Jan. 18th at my college. The committee reviewing my application need (2) weeks to review my application and make a decision. I have to finish my application as soon as possible. Iβm planning on submitting all the materials on Monday at the latest.
Thus, the timeline is tricky. I also have to ask (2) of my instructors to fill out an evaluation form. I know who I want to ask, but Iβm not sure how to ask considering the less than ideal circumstances and timeline. The evaluation isnβt a LOR; it asks the professor to rank me on intellect, academic preparation, class performance, etcetera. Then, it asks them to answer (3) questions about me. Still, itβs the holiday break, and I know it would be an imposition to ask if they could submit at their earliest convenience.
What would be the best way to approach a professor about this?
Recently I have received an email from the RenΓ©e Crown Honors program inviting me to join them, and I have accepted. But after some reflection and conversation with some friends, I am not sure if it is that good. Because they say it does not have merit scholarship attached to it (and it is an important thing), another thing I am not sure if it does βlook betterβ if I graduate with honors. But there are many other reasons I am not sure to go or to not go.
Do you guys think it is worth it? And why not or why yes?
So I got this invitation and went okay cool, but the application has 5 essays. Is it worth applying to, and will not applying affect my chances of getting into LMU?
Hey guys, I am planning on applying to NCSU for the upcoming fall semester as a transfer applicant. I am currently a sophomore at New Jersey Institute of Technology. My major is Computer Engineering.
I wanted to apply to the honors program along with my application, does anyone know the requirements to get in, how difficult it is for transfer students, and what they look for?
Additionally, will they cover room and board if accepted into the program? That's what my current school does at least, although I am not in the honors program there currently.
Thank you to anyone who can help!
I was invited to apply to the anthropology honors program. Is it just extra work for me? Or is it beneficial in some way. Iβm premed btw.
I have recently been accepted into the Healthcare Studies at UTD, and I am planning to go in with a Pre-Med Focus. I am also eligible for the Collegium V Honors Program, which seems like something I would love to be a part of. However, I am not sure how being in this program with the major I have is going to be in terms of workload. I don't want to join this program and end up feeling drained from both the rigor of doing pre-med as well as participating in more accelerated classes :(
It would be greatly appreciated if anyone who is currently in the Honors Program and has a Healthcare Studies major can share their experience on balancing those two together without sacrificing their grades or their mental health. Thanks!
Hi all. I was recently accepted into temple and in the following weeks I received an update saying I was accepted to the honors program. Something that caught my attention was that it claimed βone on one academic, career and life advising.β How strong does this hold up? Has anyone found it helpful for planning for graduate school?
Does anyone know when you get notified about your admission into the honors program? I received my acceptance a few weeks ago but didnβt hear anything about the honors program. A few of my friends got an email saying they were accepted into the program so Iβm kind of worried I didnβt get in :(
Hey all, so I was just accepted to UNH, and saw that I was given the trustee scholarship, and was placed in the honors program. I plan on majoring in CS so I was wondering, is it worth it to do the honors program, or is it something that I can opt out of, cause I saw that you need to keep a high GPA to stay in it, and although Iβve done really well in high school, Iβm worried about having to try and keep a high GPA in something like CS (which I hear people usually have low GPAβs in). Also on a related note, I got an invitation to the Hamelβs Scholarship thing, is that worth applying to, and could someone inform me a little more on what that is?
Basically title. I got into CS this wave π₯³ but still haven't heard back from Turing. Have any honors decisions been released as part of this wave?
Iβm a freshman rn and ik u can apply to the honors program in late spring semester. For the people in honors rn, is it worth the effort to apply? The only reason I wanna apply is the early registration time becuz JAJSJJSJSKSK every class is on waitlist by the time we sign up πΏ
im a premed freshman going into my 2nd semester. I got an invitation to apply. Is the honors program worth applying to?
So I just got accepted into the honors program and I keep seeing stuff about a $5000 scholarship, but when I got my letter, it never mentioned that. Is this something that they give to everyone or is it only for some people?
Edit: so apparently Behrend Honors Program is different than Schreyers, sorry to cause anyone to freak out about not getting a letter yet π
I was just kicked out of my honors program at my university due to getting a D. I feel terrible and am looking for some advice and help
I know someone out there has done very well in medical school and feels like they have to pursue a competitive specialty to have a fulfilling career. And if they donβt all their works/results arenβt worth it or wonβt mean the same.
I just want to let that person know that you need to choose to do what makes you happy. We all will make plenty of money. We will all help people on their worst days. Doctors are not stratified by importance secondary to their specialty or income.
Signed my contract to stay at my home program today so Im feeling quite a bit of gratitude and relief. If anyone out there has questions regarding how to succeed in any aspect of medical school, I feel like Iβve finally reached the point in my training where what I can provide helpful and insightful information (:
I got a notification Iβm eligible to apply for the honors program for the spring semester, and reading through the benefits, Iβm impressed. I was wondering if anyone here had joined the program and how their experience was, and also about details of their honors projects too. Thanks!
So I've been debating this for a long time, and I'm looking for your guys' opinions on this. Sorry this is a long post but hear me out-
I'm a junior studying computer science, minoring in math & music. And by now I've completed many of the honors requirements. All I have left is 1 language course, and then my honors capstone which will take all of senior year to complete.
So far the only benefits of honors for me have been:
Why do I want to drop out?
Cons of dropping out?
So those are my reasons what do u guys think
Iβm thinking about trying to get into the business honors program since Iβm eligible. Not sure if it is worth it though if the classes are a lot harder than normal classes.
Does anyone have any positive or negative experiences from this program or have any friends in the program that like it? Did you make friends and meet great people?
