A list of puns related to "Hepcat"
It's been a dream of mine since I started a vinyl collection to get this one. Looks like the remastered vinyl from 2017 is quite the hot commodity so I'd be happy with either!
Taking open offers. All submissions considered.
Jackets: Damaged covers are totally acceptable (the worse, the better; if it brings the price down). Writing/stains/small watermarks are okay. Major bends on the jacket are okay. Tape/Glue damage is okay. Unglued/split seems are okay.
As far as sound and condition of disk: Popping, distortion and crackle are okay. Minor/considerable scuffs are okay. Messed up labels are okay.
Hard pass would be: Super water damaged jacket. Major warped record (if it effects play). Major scratches. Major dust. Mold. Smoke smell/Animal smell.

If youβre feeling up for it, and like to dance to big band music, this is a great time. Iβm unaffiliated. Just a fan with an FYI.
Merry Christmas!

I canβt go due to scheduling, but I thought Iβd post this here because itβs a pretty amazing lineup and I havenβt seen anybody talking about it.
3 days in Virginia mid-sept. Bands include Hepcat, Slackers, Catbite, Toasters, Pilfers, Scotch Bonnets, Mustard Plug, Matamoska, King Django, Dr. Ring Ding, Skatalites, and much much more.
A little heavy on more established bands from the 90s and 2000s, for better or worse. Overall pretty insane lineup imo, hope some of you get to go.
Just discovered the existence of the dub versions of Right on Time and Out of Nowhere. Looks like the vinyl has been sold out for ages, but does anyone know if the dub versions are available on any legit streaming sites or for digital purchase anywhere? I found some Vic Rice dubs on youtube, but I think they're jams from when he was working on the release versions, as opposed to the final versions themsevles although I'm not positive.

Hepcat was among the most celebrated bands to emerge from the Southern California ska revival scene of the 1990s, winning fans with their infectious Caribbean melodies, soulful harmonies and swinging rhythms, all informed by elements of reggae, rock steady, R&B and jazz. Comprising vocalists Greg Lee and Alex Desert, keyboardist Deston Berry, guitarist Aaron Owens, bassist Dave Fuentes, saxophonists Efren Santana and Raul Talavera, trumpeter Kincaid Smith and drummer Scott Abels, Hepcat was formed in 1989; word quickly spread, and in 1993 Hepcat's debut album, Out of Nowhere was released on the New York-based ska label Moon Records. Two years later, they followed it up with Scientific on BYO Records. In 1998, after signing with Epitaph Records subsidiary HellCat Records, they released Right on Time, scoring a modest hit with the swinging "No Worries" and scored a spot on the Vans Warped Tour. 2000 saw the release of Push n' Shove, their first album without founding members Raul Talavera and Alex DΓ©sert, although the latter appears as a guest vocalist on two tracks.
By the early 2000s, the ska scene became oversaturated and commercially less interesting, so the band was dropped by their label. Hepcat went on a hiatus, then reunited in 2003 and continued touring. In 2007, the long-time bassist David Fuentes died, which resulted in the band being less active again. In 2015, the guitarist Aaron Owens died as well. Hepcat continues performing at concerts and festivals, but infrequently.
A few members of Hepcat have also participated in other endeavors. Trumpeter Kincaid Smith formed Soul Traffic, a five-piece funk band. Vocalist Alex DΓ©sert has had a successful career in film and television, appearing in the movies PCU, Swingers, and High Fidelity; and the television shows Boy Meets World and Becker.
The term "Hepcat" originates from an early slang term (1930β35) pertaining to an admirer or devotee of jazz, esp. swing, or one that was "hep", or a hipster. The band is actually named after a cat once owned by vocalist Alex DesΓ©rt, named "Hep."
