In the movie, when the Eternals get in the Domo during present days, Kingo is narrating his documentary and calls Makkari "Miss Havisham". I know she is a Charles Dickens' character, but I don't see the resemblance beyond the fact that they are both recluse women. Any thoughts?

So sort of update and another manifestation of the evil Miss Havisham.
I co-own a publishing company with 3 other women, and today is the virtual launch party for my book (available tomorrow). For ALL of our authors part of this virtual launch is a Book of Faces Live reading. I got lucky and was able to coordinate with a local indie bookstore to read at their store after hours (to follow local health guidance) for this live reading.
I haven't spoken with MIL (Miss Havisham) since the fallout of the house. When my book cover is announced, she tries to love bomb and rugsweep: I'll buy your book! I want to support you! Cover looks beautiful! Congratulations!
SO and I are currently VLC, so I politely accept the praise and try to move on. Whatever, we're not really invested in her at the moment.
Well, guess what my husband received on FB today? That's right, an invitation to an event (another FB live event) that's literally right after my live reading. That if Havisham knows about the book coming out, since she follows me on the Book of Faces, knows about as well.
Hubs said "You've got to be kidding me." And when I asked him what, that's what he told me.
Gotta love JNMILs.
I told him to reply to the invitation with a tag to my page and the live reading, but would love something even pettier. Bring it on.

As quadras penduradas nas paredes estavam desbotadas e tristes, havia perdido o colorido saliente e vibrante que tinha. Arrumado para uma festa, a mesa estava cheia de copos, pratos e talheres, tudo coberto de poeira. Pratos que uma vez tinha comida: agora só tinha migalhas mofadas. Uma tribuna enorme e ornamentada ficou no meio da mesa onde deve ter havido um bolo maior e mais decorativo ainda.
Uma mulher estava sentada na cabeceira da mesa. Sua pele parecia de couro enrugado, translúcido devido à falta de sol. Olhos pequenos e duros olharam para você sem piscar como botões pretos. Um ninho de cabelo cacheado fique na cabeça dela. Parecia uma mulher muito estranha, porém a coisa mais estranha era que ela estava vestida de um vestido de casamento que ficou pendurado no seu corpo magro. A guarnição do laço arrastou no chão quando ela andava, cada passo lançando poeira no ar. Ela virou para Felix e abriu sua boca estreita -Bom dia.

My girlfriend made this awesome Great Expectations themed experience for Trick or Treaters this Halloween, recreating Miss Havisham's House and the graveyard from the beginning of the book.

She converted the old playhouse in her backyard into Miss Havisham's deteriorating Victorian home, and converted her front yard into the graveyard. She's teaching herself to build and craft, with an interest in pursuing set and prop design.
For this project she built many pieces from scratch, including my favorite Miss Havisham's fireplace (built from cardboard and convincingly decorated and painted), the ancient untouched wedding cake, the headstones in the graveyard, and the faux black iron fences. She painted the interior of the playhouse, and decorated the walls and ceiling with Victorian accents and mold. I think she hit the sweet spot between grand and decrepit!
She dressed up as Miss Havisham, our friend as Pip as a young man, and I as the convict in the graveyard, all with the help of an awesome costume and makeup artist friend.
For trick or treaters this was an interactive experience. I played the convict in the graveyard in the front yard, and I would jump out at trick or treaters, showing them a little cauldron of candy, offering it to them if they would go to Miss Havisham's and bring me back a silver coin. If they followed the path I pointed them to, they would be led to the Miss Havisham's House by young Pip holding a lantern.
Miss Havisham would show them her home, and offer them a little candy. They could ask her for a silver coin, which she'd give them while warning them not to give it to anyone unsavory characters. When they left I would jump out at them again and ask if they brought me a coin. They could choose to keep the coin, or give it to me in exchange for the little cauldron of candy.
We didn't advertise this at all before Halloween, but the people who came by had a lot of fun, and a few even enjoyed the reference! The performances really took people by surprise, I think we made a lot of people's Halloween that night. Hope you found this entertaining!

Earlier this year I endeavoured to read some Dickens as I had for many years fell out of reading and wanted to get back into it reading classic literature (other examples being Sound and Fury by Faulkner and Rebecca by Dauphne Du Maurier).
The introduction of Mrs Havisham stood out to me so much. There was nothing particularly special about the writing but it was just a perfect synthax that created a massive feeling unsettlement and dread. I can still perfectly picture the dusty room and the white turned yellow dress.
Small parts such as these really drive home why books like these have stood the test of time and although having only finished volume 1 of my version. I'm so keen to press on here.
I am struggling with defining atmosphere generally. Can someone assist with this--particularly or possibly during Miss Havisham's introduction?
