Sorry if the answer is obvious / thereβs a FAQ for this, but Iβve always found it curious that Great Britain, a nation (so far as I know) without a particularly large or historically significant Jewish population would support the idea of a Jewish Homeland in the Middle East. Why did the British authorities support this? Even if they didnβt predict the century of turmoil that would surround Israel and Palestine, what did Britain expect to gain from supporting Jewish settlement in the Levant after the fall of the Ottoman Empire?
In all other competitions and events, constituent countries should compete under their own flags (i.e. as England, Scotland, and Wales, with Northern Ireland deciding what it wants to do, since it is arguably not a 'constituent country'
Let's take the Olympics for instance. It's not political, and there are also Olympic delegations from places with a similar level of autonomy that compete under their own flags (e.g. Aruba, Bermuda, Puerto Rico).
In the event that England, Scotland, etc. compete under their own flags, UK citizens should have the right to choose the flag under which they wish to compete. Same can be said about beauty pageants, motor racing, etc.
And yes, I know that they already do this in FIFA and rugby
