People always ask "what I am" I used to just say idk american or black. Now I can say IM BLACK AND IM PROUD. Mostly Ghanaian with Nigerian and Angolian, as well as mixed with British, Irish, French, and German. And my ancestors born between 1720-1810 were Indonesian/Thai! Black, White, East Asian.

Do all Ghanaian people swap between their language and English seamlessly, or was it only the case for the radio I was listening to?

I was going through TuneIn listening to different world radios (Red Army Radio in Tyumen, and The Electroswing revolution in Berlin are my favourites). I decided to look in the section of radios in my location and there was one named β€˜Okay Radio’. I put it on and it said it was from Accra, Ghana. Keep in mind I live in England.

I listened for a while as the hosts were speaking English and suddenly they just flipped to some other language and they would continue the conversation perfectly. I listened on and the hosts just flip flopped between fluent English and the other language constantly.

Is this something Ghanaians do in everyday speech? Why?

AITA for wearing a traditional African Gown to a Wedding?

(Sorry for Format I’m a Mobile User also apologies for any mistakes in grammar English is my 3rd language)

Last week my boyfriend (M20) and I (F19) went to his sister’s (F27) wedding. I wore a gown with Kente print and a matching head wrap. If you don’t know what Kente print is, it is a traditional Ghanaian print. I made sure to check in with my boyfriend’s sister before hand that this was okay to wear to her wedding, because I know that some people don’t think Kente print can be formal. She told me that she loved the gown and actually told me she’d be mad if i didn’t wear it.

During the wedding, I noticed that i was getting many dirty looks, all from which came from the grooms side. Flash forward to present day and i recieved a text from the groom saying that I was out of line and that I should have asked him if i could wear it, because his family was from the south and they had traditional views, and went as far to say I embarrassed him in front of his family.

My boyfriends sister found out what he had said and has apologized on his behalf.

I think i may be the asshole for only checking with the bride and not the groom. So Reddit, AITA??

INFO BECAUSE I GOT A PRIVATE MESSAGE: Mt boyfriend’s family is Asian, Taiwanese to be specific, and the Groom’s family is white Edit Pt. 2: Yes i am Ghanaian, i was born there and lived there for 11 years
