A list of puns related to "François Girard"
Taking inspiration from this post, and with macrostats such as WAR gaining much more attention lately within the hockey world, I wanted to see how Norris Trophies would hold up against a metric like WAR, especially as it has garnered reputation as a reputation award. Some disclaimers before I start:
I am using the WAR metric from TopDownHockey, which is probably best known as being the WAR metric that JFresh uses for his player cards. It has proven to be effective at describing player performances: with goaltenders removed it explains roughly 68 % of a team's standing points, compared to points which explain 55% of a team's standing points, and including goalies WAR can explain 90% of a team's standing points.
However, it's important to know that WAR should never be the end of a discussion: it's much worse at predicting results, and it may misattribute or unfairly take away credit to players compared to their teammates for a variety of reasons, including chemistry, coaching systems, general fit, deployment, etc.
On that topic, a notorious flaw to the model that the creator of the model has acknowledged is that playdriving is probably underrated and shooting is heavily overrated in the model, to the point that Auston Matthews has been far and away the best player according to WAR over the past two seasons, and was ahead of McDavid this season. This becomes exacerbated for defensemen, where except for the best shooters shooting is basically random as defensemen mostly take shots with a low chance of going in. Thus, I'll be doing something that JFresh has done for defensemen as well: removing the shooting component for defensemen. I will still list the top 5 in overall WAR for those that are curious
I'll be looking at the finalists for the Norris as they are generally the ones that get the most attention, but I'll be looking at the top 5 defensemen in shooting-adjusted WAR in order to facilitate more discussion and maybe capture an underrated defenseman of the time.
With that out of the way, I think we can start.

Soo as I promised I'm posting the second part of it. For those who didn't see the first one go check it out. In this part, I will cover the event wins, total events competed, and so on. Let's start then.
For the start let's get into the totals. Who has competed in the most events? It is mister J.F Caron. J.F. competed on the WSM stage a total of 11 times more than any Canadian. During those 11 appearances, he got into 115 events. At first, it might not seem that much but if we take into consideration that this is in fact more than 11 other Canadians (places from 19th to 9th) combined. The fact that caron has never withdrawn from an event at the WSM makes it even more of a big deal. Caron also leads the leaderboards for events competed in heats and, finals. Here is the leaderboard for you guys.
Name | Total Events Competed | Total Events competed in Heats | Total Events Competed in Finals |
---|---|---|---|
Jean-François Caron | 115 | 62 | 53 |
Hugo Girard | 77 | 45 | 32 |

Bishop Dolegiewicz | 21 | 0 | 21 |
Maxime Boudreault | 17 | 11 | 6 |

Let's get to the wins. So, sadly not a single Canadian has won the WSM, but they have won some events and some groups. First of all how many groups have the Canadians won? In total it's 7 out of 42, 16.66%. Most groups are won by Hugo Girard with 4 and the rest belongs to Caron.
There are also event wins. Winning an event is impressive but winning a couple in a row is even more, whereas winning 3 in a row is a rare feat of strength. This fact didn't stop Hugo Girard from doing it twice once in the groups in 1999 and once in the groups in 2002. Hugo also won back-to-back events in the groups twice (2000, 2003) this achievement has also been achieved by Caron in 2016 and in 2020.
Now let's get to the single event wins. Caron is the most winningest athlete. With 23 wins he stands above all competition. Caron's performance has been so stellar that all the Canadians combined have only 9 more wins than him (32).
There is also one tricky question. Who had the most dominant performance? Thi

I always loved the WSM trivia and I love stats. I had many questions like who has the most points, most events won best percentages and so on. As there is not a single already source created for this kind of in-depth stats for WSM. Therefore I decided to gather the stats and do it myself. So here I am presenting to you the National records of Canada.
So let's begin with some trivia. Who is the first Canadian to have ever competed at the WSM?
It's Bishop Dolegiewicz. He competed in the 1980 WSM Finals. Therefore he is also the first Canadian finalist. During Bishop's first Final he was 28 years old. In just his first star he needed to face Bill Kazmaier, Geoff Capes, and Lars Hedlund. Dolegiewicz came out 4th overall.
Now that we got the first Canadian to ever compete out of the wat who was the youngest Canadian to make a debut? Well, it's hard to say. The youngest official competitor would be Louis-Philippe Jean who debuted in 2008 at the age of 24 yrs & 28 d. But as we don't know the full date of birth of Tom Magee we can assume that Tom was no younger than 24 and no older than 25. So I had to put them in a tied position.
Next who was the youngest to make the Finals? In this case, it is without a doubt Tom Magee who made the Finals in 1982 at the age of 24 what is outstanding about this performance is that Magee placed 2nd. To this day he holds the title for the highest placed Canadian in the WSM history.
The oldest athlete to compete in both finals and groups is our good friend J.F. Caron who competed this year at the age of 38 yrs, 11 m, & 21 d.
Alright as we have the age questions out of the way let's get to the height and weight. The tallest athlete was Travis Lyndon standing at a whopping 199 cm. The shortest one was Daniel Poulin standing at 180cm
The heaviest athlete was Dominic Filou who weights 185kg and officially the lightest one is Jimmy Paquet weighing 129 kg. Why officially? Well, once again Bishop Dolegiewicz's and Daniel Poulin's weights are not listed.
Alright now that we got all of those basic questions out of the wat let's get to the more in-depth things.
As of right now, J.F Caron leads Canada in career points, group points, and finals points. Throughout his career, Caron accumulated a total of 529 points out of which 237 are from groups and 292 are from finals.

First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Do your worst!
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies π

Or would that be too forward thinking?
but then I remembered it was ground this morning.
Edit: Thank you guys for the awards, they're much nicer than the cardboard sleeve I've been using and reassures me my jokes aren't stale
Edit 2: I have already been made aware that Men In Black 3 has told a version of this joke before. If the joke is not new to you, please enjoy any of the single origin puns in the comments
Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.
When I got home, they were still there.
I won't be doing that today!
