A list of puns related to "Flat World Knowledge"
Maybe they would thank us if they knew what was on the other side of the earth
Hundreds of years ago, it was common knowledge that the world was flat...what general fact today will turn out to be a lie? My guess is light speed being the fastest form of travel!!
Why is it that flerfers are rejecting modern science and research, and trying to use older publications as credible sources.
For instance here /r/globeskepticism/comments/naddlt/old_geocentric_model_of_solar_eclipse/ they are trying to use an atlas from 1587 as evidence of the flat earth, while all recent documentation they just flat out reject. I can admire the work put in to that atlas, but as confirmation of the shape of the earth it is... outdated and invalidated by more recent documents.
I need help for a TOK essay and I cannot think of anything. I just need a lil boost :)
I use both boyfriend and girlfriend in this story so for clarity reasons, I'm a bisexual woman.
My sister Serenity was dating this guy Jalen for the last 5 months. They only broke up a few weeks ago because our parents forced them to after they found out about the relationship. They're not against her dating (I had a girlfriend when I was 16), but he was absolutely NOT good news. The dude was a 20 year old college dropout with a criminal record. I've talked to her about finding someone more age appropriate that's better for her and she seemed to understand.
On an unrelated note, I gave Serenity the key to my apartment a couple years ago in case she ever wants to chill. Our parents can be pretty overbearing sometimes, so I gave it to her in case she ever wanted to get away.
Well anyways, I came home today and opened my door to see her and her (supposed to be ex) boyfriend having sex on my sofa. I screamed which caused her to scream (I didn't expect anyone to be in my house) and then asked her what the hell did she think she was doing. She apologized and she tried covering herself and said I thought she'd be at work (I took a new job last weekend and I work 100% remotely; I was coming home from my boyfriend's place). I told them to get out and left my apartment.
I then phoned my mom (I didn't really care about the sex; mostly about the whom) and she went to pick her up. Her ride here was Jalen, and I was not going to let him take her home. My mom was furious because she was supposedly "at the mall with friends".
I feel kinda bad, because knowing my parents, she's likely going to be punished pretty badly. But this dude was not good news, and I felt like they should be aware that they're still seeing each other. Was I in the wrong?
For reference, Serenity just turned 17 a little more than a week ago
And is it still possible?
Most of people that are bilionaires or economists made money and learned about economy in differerent era, before popularity of computers and internet, not even mentioning crypto. Who they are and what they achieved doesn't mean they know shit when they spoke against crypto.
Strategies they used weren't bad, they worked for generations and made many people rich. But those were different times, different technologies and different society. Internet changed everything. Crupto even more. Most of their knowledge is useless today. Basic rules of economy stay the same, but everything else advance. Everyone need to adapt to understand it.
Those who not updated their knowledge will not understand progress that happened in last 10/20 years. They already have money and power, so they don't want to understand crypto, cause they played by different rules most of their lives. Their advices were great in 1960 or 1980. Today they just harm young people and destroy their future by telling about outdated ways to earn money. They sold lemonade in 1960's for 5$ and bough properties in 1980's for 30k $, so they advice the same, even it is not possible anymore.
Gary Gensler yesterday adviced college students to... save money:
βIf you were to save $5 a week, and you earn maybe 8%. Starting off while youβre at college, you may have $130,000 plus saved by the time of retirement at 65,β
How we can treat him seriously? Maybe 40/50 years ago it was good plan, 130k $ was proably a lot of money back then, but today his advice only show lack of empathy for problems of young people. And this man is head of the SEC... It clearly prove that people like him are out of touch from reality.
Remember that everyone can be wrong. Winner of economy nobel prize, Paul Krugman, Β wrote in 1998 that: "The growth of the Internet will slow drastically[...].By 2005 or so, it will become clear that the Internetβs impact on the economy has been no greater than the fax machineβs". If economy nobel prize winner, someone who should undertand potential of the internet the best can be completely wrong, everyone can.
Think twice before you will listen to advices about crypto from any people. Just because they are famous investors or successful businessmen that become bilionaires, economy experts or heads of some government agency it doesn't mean they know shit and are right in modern times. Especially that most of them spend life trading stocks or working for banks. They are not neutral.
Has anyone had this problem?
I have a curious mind but I am not inherently intelligent, whatever that means. I just donβt feel like I have a sharp mind. This has left me feeling pretty empty as I have tried to grow my knowledge base. First, I am overwhelmed with all there is left to know and all the ideas and fields Iβll never even touch on or will barely scrape the surface, even in areas that interest me greatly.(History, Economics, geopolitics, sociology, psychology) But aside from that, itβs just the feeling that learning leaves me with? I donβt feel enriched. I feel I just learn for my ego, not because I want to learn. How to overcome that?
Yeah apparently its full of can-gurus!
Hey all,
I set up a camera in my flat while I was on holidays because I suspected my landlady to enter my flat without my knowledge. My suspicions were proven true when I reviewed the footage and even saw her taking photos inside my flat.
To give some background to the story, we had some disagreements (rent increase, cats, etc...) that included some minor breaches from my side (for example she claims the rent was paid late but we had to arrange a day for her to pick it up which made it very inconvenient). But she also failed in her duties of landlady by not carrying out repairs and have her cleaning lady spy on me. Now on top of that she peaked a couple of times through the window while I was away and entered the property to take photos. I even caught her inside my flat today! Called the cops but they couldn't do anything. She now wants to kick me out based on contract breaches from my side, and to be honest I want to get out of there too. But she's claiming additional money and threatens to get lawyers involved.
The contract says she should give me prior notice before entering the flat which she never did. I am going to move out but I want to cover my back in case she tries to screw me over. Does anyone know what the law says in that regards and what I could do? I'm pretty sure what she's doing is illegal.
Cheers!
Edit 19/11/19 - 23:20:
So far, the police advised not to file a complaint for trespass (under the criminal law) because it's not likely to lead anywhere.
However! Thanks to the people who replied here and some work colleagues, I've been able to navigate through the law, especially the Charter of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms (which is part of the constitution) that states my right to privacy and the respect of my dwelling (see Article 7 (1), 10 (2) and 12 (1). Also the civil code states similar things and goes into specifics regarding unauthorized recordings inside the property I'm living in (see Section 3 (2) a), Section 81 (2) and Section 86). And in addition, she breaches her own contract (that states she should give prior warning before entering the property). Definitely gonna lawyer up and keep you posted.
