Experience needed for experience/the fictitious "entry level"

I've been studying on my own time for almost a year, every night without fail, granted I have no certs and no experience in IT. All I have to show for it is one interview. I am about to get my A+ though. I get that they want to see dedication because they can afford to have standards, but how exactly is dedication or passion measured? By who happens to be able to afford the hefty exam fees for Comptia exams and happens to somehow get lucky as hell to get a job in IT? The part they can't really see on my end is that I'm over here studying udemy courses, messer videos, messing around with Python and SQL, VMware, Azure, various Linux distros and bash scripting and the list goes on.

I get it, I have no credentials and I look like some guy off the street. (I do have a BA though) My heart is, or WAS, set on IT, but the whole thing seems really elitist. I've networked with companies like Robert Half, I've tried talking to as many recruiters as I can, I've talked to everyone I know who is in IT, etc. I demonstrate in my cover letters and my resume the skills I've been teaching myself/learning from these online courses, I call with HR and talk to them about this, etc. and all I've gotten is one interview.

What's depressing to me is that all these people I talk to always tell me that IT encourages growth, passion etc. and it's basically like getting a help desk job or Tier 1 position in some form is always this ticket to getting on that road, and in 5 years or less you're well on your way to six figures if you dedicate yourself to it enough. And I'm just not seeing it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not gonna stop and I'm not gonna give up because all my time, effort, passion and everything I've set my heart and soul towards is in this direction. But I'm getting really nervous now that I'm just chasing a pipe dream and in 5 years I'll still be getting entry level pay and being stuck at help desk. Because guess what, when all these jobs title themselves as "entry level" and they want 6 years of experience for something I could've done when I was 14 years old, that's the impression I get out of it.

[Dark, Gritty][Serious] 100 Banned and Evil Tomes

Welcome to an official [Lets Build]! This week, we are looking for:

Banned and Evil Tomes - A list of 100 of banned books that cause more harm than good.

Die Roll Result
1 'The Writings Of Theon Ganderson' - A small black journal kept by a man who claimed to have spotted a 'thing' living under his farm house. This 'thing' turned out to be a small elder being that began eating Theon's livestock. The journal ends abruptly during a passage where Theon is describing hearing something underneath his floorboards.
2 'Dark Heart: The Lore of Life' - The ultimate tome to teaching budding necromancers their first incantations to bring the dead back to life. The book starts off small, such as bringing small rodents back to life, and ultimately works up to bringing back dead family members.
3 'Under The Silver Moon' - This book contains information on lycanthropy and the effects that it may bestow upon you. The author of this book makes lycanthropy sound like a REALLY good idea.
4 'Final Dawn' - A long-forgotten cult leader's teachings on beginning and maintaining your own cult. This book was actually written by an arch-devil who is using hidden tactics to get an unsuspecting reader to summon him into the material plane.
5 'GLORIOUS OOZE' - A leather-bound book that is covered in a green, sticky ooze. If you can get the pages unstuck, they describe the teachings and tenants of Uur'glaz-lop, the Sinister God of Slime.
6 'The Koraktor' - A heavy tome bound in unfamiliar leather. It describes a dark ritual, that allows the sacrifice of an intelligent being to have its remaining lifespan transferred to you. The catch is, that with each use, the effect is halved (second sacrifice gives half its lifespan, 3rd gives a quarter and so on).
7 'The Swarm' - The tome is a binding for a bug elemental. The holder controls how a plague like swarm of beatles/locust/hornets move and are bound to his command.
8 'A Deal with the Devil' - A tome detailing various historical contracts that have been made with devils. Goes to great lengths to make it sound as if it were actually very easy to find loopholes in devil contracts.
9 'Cooking with Grandma' - This seemingly pleasant sounding book is actually a book written by hags, and goes into great detail explaining how the flesh and bones of older humans can be used to make delicious food.
10 'Spreading Joy' - A religious tome made by a god of disease and plagues. Contains various rituals and spells for inflicting

The time I got a homophobic customer kicked out.

TL: DR at bottom.

I've worked in customer service for twenty-three years, with the past seventeen spent as a server. I'm in my early forties, but am often mistaken for mid-twenties, medium height, slender, brunette and very obviously gay. I mean, I'm more flaming than the burning bush. I also have an acting background. You have to be an actor to last in the service industry.

About this story: all names contained herein are fictitious hence why there are quotation marks around them.

Me: Sassy gay comedian masquerading as a server.

Nate: My spry former manager.

Janet: My eccentric, lovely former coworker, LGBT+ ally

Connie: A Karen-in-the-making. Homophobic, overweight and unattractive.

This particular instance occurred on Halloween 2011 at my former serving job that I liked to refer to as β€œpurgatory”. I had just been hired at my now-former place of employment (a chain restaurant that may or may not heavily feature various flavors of pancakes) only a month and a half prior. My shift had already gotten off to a rough start because I arrived in full costume unaware that everyone else was in proper work attire. Seeing I was dressed like an extra from Saturday Night Fever, β€œNate” approached me.

Me: β€œI was told we could dress up.”

Nate, who looked like a portly version of Red Forman from That 70’s Show, rubbed his hand over his face and his clean-shaven head.

Nate: β€œOP, that was only if everyone else on your shift chose to dress up. Notice no one is in costume, except you. Please tell me you have your uniform in your car.”

I said nothing. My anxiety was spiking.

Nate: β€œThat's what I thought. Let's just hope the area supervisor doesn't decide to pop in tonight.”

I later came to learn that the district manager and/or area supervisor liked to divvy up the locations and visit their stores on holidays. I knew I was in a pickle if they happened to show up. Fortunately, they did not. Alas, the night had something else in store.

With it being Halloween, a free kid meal was given to every child under the age of twelve with an accompanying adult, no other purchase necessary. The usual Monday night rush was no big deal, but the added factor of it being a holiday and the steady influx of sugared up trick-or-treaters wanting post frolicking eats led to us getting slammed.

The way this place was set up, made serving guests efficiently quite difficult when we were busy. The entire center of the restaurant had a dividing wall with booths on eit

[Reality Television] β€œShe Died Dude”: Lying About Your Relative’s Death In Front Of Twenty Million Viewers, Or One Of The Greatest Villains In Survivor History

Spoilers for Survivor Season 7: Pearl Islands and other seasons.

39 Days

16 People

1 Survivor

That’s right Survivor fans, I’m covering a season most people love this time. Considered to be one of the best seasons ever made, Pearl Islands would be Survivor’s seventh outing on the small screen and would introduce some of the most famous (and infamous) contestants in Survivor history. Taking its theming of pirates and thievery, the show truly did everything it possibly could with its setting and story, highlighting the absurdity and propelled by its amazing cast. The season would also introduce one of Survivor’s greatest β€œvillains”, whose legacy would be defined with one of the greatest lies ever told on the show and reality television.

What Is Survivor?

Skip if you’ve read any of my last entries or watch the show.

Survivor is a reality television competition where contestants are stranded on a deserted location and compete for a million dollars while living with the bare essentials. Upon arrival, contestants are split up into teams, called tribes, and compete for rewards to improve their living conditions as well as immunity from Tribal Council. The losing contestants must make the trek to Tribal Council to vote someone off their tribe: whoever has the most votes will be eliminated from the game. When about half the cast has been eliminated, the tribes are merged into one and contestants must then compete individually to win immunity. Finally, when only a handful of castaways remain, the contestants who have made it to the merge but were voted off form a jury that chooses which remaining contestant will earn the title of Sole Survivor, winner of the million dollar grand prize.

Each season varies in structure, and there are numerous twists and changes incorporated to switch things up, but Survivor at its core is truly a social game. The winner is usually not the one who wins the most challenges or does the most work at camp (though both of those traits can certainly help), but someone who can form strong bonds with others or at the very least have a story and strategy that the jury is willing to vote for. The people you either worked with, against, or even personally eliminated will likely be responsible for deciding if you or the person sitting next to you will win a million dollars. You need to somehow ensure that when the time comes, they at the very least can accept rewarding you.

SERIOUS: This subreddit needs to understand what a "dad joke" really means.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

Wut doing DTC?

Depository Trust Company (DTC), founded in 1973, is a New York corporation that performs the functions of a Central Securities Depository (CSD). A CSD is a specialized financial organization holding securities like shares, either in certificated or uncertificated form, allowing ownership to be easily transferred through a book entry rather than by a transfer of physical certificates.

The DTC is part of the US National Market System (NMS). The NMS is the national system for trading equities in the United States. The System includes all the facilities and entities which are used by broker-dealers to fulfill trade orders for securities. This includes:

  1. Major stock exchanges, such as NYSE and Nasdaq.
  2. A national central securities depositary for book-entry transfers (Depository Trust Company pursuant to Article 8 of the Uniform Commercial Code of New York State).
  3. A depositary nominee (Cede and Company) to retain custody of stockholder rights with respect to immobilized jumbo stock certificates.
  4. A Proxy Ballot processing organization (Broadridge).
  5. Intraday clearing corporations which act as a central counterparty for continuing securities settlement by facilitating novation of settlement obligations to themselves and offsetting opposing obligations (known as netting or clearing). These organizations include FICC, NSCC, etc.
  6. The facilities which operate the national price quotation system.

The DTC annually settles transactions worth hundreds of trillions of dollars, processes hundreds of millions of book-entry deliveries, and custodies millions of securities issues worth tens of trillions of dollars issued in the United States and over 100 other countries. Since 1999 it has been a subsidiary of the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation, a securities holding company.

Now I know yer hungry apes but we gun take small bites and really digest dis one. So what sort of wrinkles have brained up on us so far wif da DTC?

Da DTC is owned by da DTCC

Da DTC is a private corporation

Da DTC is a Central Securities Depository

Da DTC is part of the US National Market System

Da DTC relies on "Book-entry" transfers not physical certificates.

A good writing about a project that I've been using lately for trading. It uses algorithmic trading that's developed by amazing successful people. Make sure to read this post if you are interested.

Imagine a future where corporations and artificial intelligence dominate the market; where individual traders, developers, and investors are locked out and outcompeted for the opportunities, resources, and ultimately the profits that they seek for their investments and their labor.

Here at Mercor, they aim to radically change this dominance. We aim to democratize the algorithmic trading market. We will provide its users with the instruments to develop and invest in what is known as the black box of trading β€” algorithmic trading. On the one hand, we supply developers with data and licenses to develop their own algorithms in the Mercor environment, on the other hand, we make investing in algorithmic trading accessible to everybody.

Algorithmic Trading in the Crypto Markets

While the dominance of algorithmic trading is not yet as strong in the crypto markets as their traditional counterparts, the consensus is that crypto markets are moving in that direction, playing into the hands of large institutional investors currently entering the market.

Unlike traditional markets, crypto markets are accessible 24/7, every day of the year, and are well known for their extreme volatility, low fees, and barriers to entry. The ability to respond quickly and without emotion at any time is critical to a trader’s success.

Why on the Blockchain?

As there is no central authority on the platform, crypto assets remain in the user's hands. Trades are initiated through signals coming from the algorithm storage. These signals will communicate with a blockchain oracle that calls upon the smart contract on the Binance Smart Network. The smart contract performs the trade directly on a decentralized exchange. The developer and transaction fees are handled by the smart contract. The decentralized blockchain environment levels the playing field for everyone involved. No one is refused entry and there are fewer costs and regulations than in a traditional market environment.

Advantages of Using the Mercor Platform for Algorithmic Trading

Traders and investors face several problems when attempting to invest with the help of algorithmic trading tools. Comparing and backtesting algorithms is extremely difficult, making it nearly impossible to objectively study different algorithms. As algorithms are created, they are audited by the Mercor security and fraud module. If approved, they will be encrypted and saved in the algorithm storage. Developers can then test the effective

Is it a bad idea to become a company director at a young age and while I still have career aspirations? (UK)

I’m 23M currently working for a family business, my father and grandfather are both directors on paper, however my father is the only active director.

Without giving away too much personal information, the company is required to have two directors and my father has asked me to take over my grandfathers role in the near future.

Personally, I don’t mind, it will not be a burden to my current work and will not affect me negatively. However, I still have future career aspirations I want to work towards and that includes at some point working for an employer.

Will it impact my future employment if I have on my CV β€œCompany Director” from a young age? My other concern is that I will likely be applying to entry-level / Post-graduate level jobs so I wonder if my CV will come of as over qualified or fictitious?

What is Mercor Finance (MRCR) | What is Mercor Finance token | What is MRCR token

In this article, we’ll discuss information about the Mercor Finance projectΒ and MRCR token

Mercor’s mission is to democratize the algorithmic trading market, disrupting financial markets by building a bridge between algorithmic trading and everyday investors worldwide. Over 80% of all market transactions are currently done with the use of algorithms and trading automation tools. These types of trades leverage computational resources and speed to outperform human traders. However, algorithms are becoming more complex and are harvesting the power of machine learning and artificial intelligence. Aside from speed, these algorithms are now also becoming extremely successful in making the right decisions. Many different strategies exist, ranging from relatively simple, trend-following strategies all the way to advanced AI trading algorithms, reacting to live world events, weather, Twitter sentiment, and more.

Increasing demand for reliable, high-frequency and effective order execution as well as a growing demand for reduced transaction costs, are expected to further accelerate the algorithmic trading market. The expected CAGR of the algorithmic trading market over the years 2020–2025 is 11.23%. At the beginning of 2020, the corona crisis caused stock markets worldwide to plunge. Algorithmic trading has been contributing to market rebounds after the March lows. Thus, algorithmic execution tools in foreign exchange increased significantly since March 2020.

In crypto markets this dominance is not yet as strong. The consensus is that crypto markets are moving into that direction, playing into the hands of large institutional investors currently entering the market. Mercor aims to diminish this advantage and offer similar capabilities to individuals worldwide.

The Mercor Solution

The Mercor platform provides its users with the instruments to develop and the possibility to invest in what is known as the black box of trading, algorithmic trading. On the one hand, we supply developers with analytical tools, backtesting capabilities and exclusive data. On the other hand, we make investing in algorithmic trading publicly accessible, by reducing entry barriers. With the power of the crowd, we create an environment in which no individual is restricted by expensive data or high entry barriers. We are supplying ordinary people with the

Mercor β€” The Algorithmic Trading Platform of the Future
