A list of puns related to "Fecal Incontinence"
My Dad is 70. Iβd say from 67 onwards he started having serious continence issues. Itβs gotten to the point where walking in the park with him is a gamble because he might poop in my car (heβs done so twice already). When he accidentally goes in the house he does a very poor job of cleaning it up himself, leading to the house smelling like **** and my mom or me having to clean it up. Afterward she gets furious and storms off and he gets depressed. I just leave.
I get that this is normal for older adults, but for it to be this bad this early into his elderly years is concerning. Is there a type of surgery or something I could recommend? Heβs all there mentally, and mostly there physically. He also wears adult diapers 24/7, itβs just not enough.
Additionally Iβd love to give him advice. The depression-pity party he has for himself isnβt helping anyone. He does a horrendous job cleaning it up so I donβt have much sympathy in that regard. At the end of the day my mom and I arenβt full-time nurses and heβs too insecure to tell us he had accident until we walk into it, which makes things even worse.
Thanks in advanced.
Hello. I wanted to see if anybody has had any experience with this. I went through a 10-day course of vancomycin towards the end of October. Post the infection I've been having IBS like symptoms. For the most part my stomach feels okay on most days but every now and then I do get a few cramps and loose stool. The most concerning symptoms I have are mucus and fecal incontinence (leaking stool). I feel like every week is two steps forward one step back kind of thing and I know that PI-IBS can linger for a few months but the amount of mucus still in my stool is kind of concerning. I took a toxin test at the end of last year and came back negative for c diff so I know I'm not having a reoccurrence. Or at least I hope I'm not. Has anybody else had any of these symptoms post infection?
I am 25 days post open hemorrhoidectomy (3) + HAL/THD (2) surgery. I still have some limited yellow discharge. I still have incontinence, especially farts. I canβt stop a fart if I wanted to. I think I should wait another month and hope these symptoms subside. Just wondering how long did it take to get over the discharge and the fecal/farts incontinence.
So, I learned that I have food sensitivities/intolerances to meat and dairy products. Eating them causes constipation which is consistent for several months which allows me to simulate fecal continence. I might even be able to go without diapers.
But, it also causes several hours of mild pain and moderate anxiety each day. It's sometimes enough to put me into a meltdown (autism) or trigger PTSD (food related trauma).
What would you do? Is there something I'm not considering?
It's such an embarassing medical condition.
Should I watch what is eat?
13F spayed, St. Bernard, 87 pounds (sheβs a runt). My dog is suddenly having fecal incontinence problems multiple times a day. This was not an issue until less than a week ago. Itβs like she just canβt hold it, and it falls out. She recently tore her CCL in her back right leg, so sheβs been on Carprofen and Gabapentin since the end of August. She seems to not be in pain and comfortable since being on the meds. I think itβs given her new life with her arthritis. She normally eats dry food only, but recently Iβve switched to wet food twice a day because itβs easier to give her the meds in the wet food. Iβve also recently started giving her a dentastix everyday. Can any of these things cause sudden fecal incontinence? Iβm super confused because this was not a problem at all until extremely recently, and now itβs happening all the time. Iβm planning on calling my vet tomorrow, but Iβm wondering if anyone has any idea what is going on. Iβm at a loss.
Hi all,
Iβm writing this in hopes to get some answers on how to deal with a situation at home. My grandmother is 83 years old, had hip surgery about 30 years ago, which has resulted in an inability to walk normally. She also has a hard time standing up when seated, or laying in bed. Because of this, her method of passing a bowel movement is pretty much standing over the toilet, squatting very slightly and then proceeding. This results in our toilets, bathtub, and sinks to be covered with poop. For a while weβve been using alcohol wipes and disinfectant spray to clean the affected areas, but itβs beginning to feel like too much, and we need another solution that does not involve us having to clean up after her 3-4 times a day. Are there any βadult diapersβ that anyone can recommend that have the capacity to hold such volume? Iβve seen ones that are able to hold pee, but not sure about poop. (Forgive me for being gross, I just really need a solution here.) Thank you!
14 year old female Weimaraner has a tumor-like growth directly underneath her anus. She is displaying fecal incontinence by defecating in her sleep, while standing, etc. Could the mass be causing the incontinence, or are they unrelated?
Additional: she is able to completely control her urine
Hi vets,
Species: dog Breed: border collie golden retriever mix (best guess) Age: approx 13 (she is a rescue) Spayed/neutered: yes Weight: 15kg or 33.5 (she has recently lost weight and we have increased her food. She is normally 37-40lbs vets thought it was due to muscle loss.
My dog in the past year has greatly declined. She is completely deaf and has recently developed cataracts in one eye. Her mobility and back end weakened has slowly gotten worse. These issues have been hard for her but she had still been happy, eating all of her meals, occasionally playing with our other dog, and still enjoying going on walks to sniff.
In the past month she has gone from getting up, pacing, and needing to go outside 2-3 times to waking us up every hour to hour and a half. We are currently taking turns sleeping on the couch and letting her outside every hour and generally trying to keep her calm. We are both exhausted.
We have discussed what has been happening with our vet, but they havenβt suggested any medication or treatment. What I want to to know is whether there is more we can do to help her. She seems really anxious when pacing like she doesnβt know where she is. We also use night lights and try to keep her active during the day.
She has also recently lost weight and we have increased her food. Would this be related to the pacing or is it something else entirely?
Sorry for the long post I am just feeling lost and sad for my poor girl.
Ps. She recently had a check up last Thursday
I've read so many of your posts and comments. You are all so helpful. Thankyou so much.
Especially thankyou to the person that posted about shitting their pants. Omg! I've been so mortified about this. Thankyou so much for sharing. Just realising this is not uncommon, and it will get better has been remarkably helpful.
There are so many things that are embarrassing about this. I haven't had anyone other than my partner to talk to. I've been lucky to never experienced a lot of health problems,Β I have not given birth, etc, so I have little experience with my body doing its own thing. So much is a surprise, not to mention embarrassing for my naive self. Plus, I'm trying to navigate meeting my work responsibilities, but I can't really tell my boss I want to work from home because I'm may spontaneously shit my pants.
Thankyou all so much for your openness, your sharing and the support you show everyone, including myself.
It's literally ruining my work and it's driving me crazy not sure how much more I can take
It's getting much worse and I'm stressed. Can avoiding certain foods help it? May I have this for years?
Why do i have to have this embarassing and anxiety inducing symptom? I don't want to have this problem but I'm stuck with it... the most stressful thing is smelling or possibly having an accident in public.
I'm a 24 year old m and my incontinence seems to get worse and worse. I'm scared to be around people sometimes. How can I make it not get worse?
First off, let me say that I will be calling the vet when they open.
Please let me know if you've experienced this with your dog following minor surgery, such as to remove a lipoma.
My 7 year old pup had a 6cm lipoma that was starting to impair his ability to move normally, and we had it removed on Wednesday. It was located on his belly by his front legs. The surgery was "uneventful", and the incision and sutures are clean and there's been no bleeding, swelling, redness, or discharge at the area.
On Wednesday afternoon he pooped normally, but he didn't actively poop, if you know what I mean, he just walked, and poop fell out of his anus. He stopped, I picked it up, and when we got home I cleaned his anus up. He didn't eat much at all on Wednesday, about 1/4 of his daily meal. And that was too be expected, the surgeon and get tech both told me that his appetite should return in a day or two, and to only give him food in 1/4 cup increments because the anesthetic can irritated his stomach.
Yesterday he didn't poop outside at all, but that wasn't surprising given that he ate so little the day before. Then in the afternoon I noticed a little brown lump, about the size of an m&m on his bed, I picked it up, mushy, smelled like poop, and tossed it and cleaned up the bed where I found it. In the evening, just before we took him outside for his evening constitional, I found a normal-for-him quarter-sized poop on his bed, and another tiny little lump behind his bed. His tail at the base was quite messy. I cleaned up the area, took him outside - he peed but no poop, brought him inside and cleaned up his butt and tail.
This morning we found another quarter-sized poop on the bed, and cleaned up his anus and tail. He had a normal sized poop outside, and I rewarded him for it, because I want him to continue pooping outside whenever he can.
I suspect the fecal incontinence is because he can't self care by cleaning his own anus at the moment. Normally he would clean his anus 2-3 times a day. I also wonder if it's because he's in pain and it hurts to wait until he has to go outside or it hurts to go poo, or he's just too low energy (he's on gabapentin + trazadone to keep him calm and low energy because normally he's a running jumping ball of anxiety) and he's too drowsy/dopey and his anus is too relaxed at this point that the muscles aren't working properly.
I've been trying to do all the self-care things he normally does but can't because he had to we
... keep reading on reddit β‘Hey guys, Iβve been dealing with passive fecal incontinence for two years now (liquid seeping out) and I was wondering if anyone can give me some advice or has gone through this before. Hereβs my journey so far:
-GI Doctor ordered a colonoscopy (no results) -Doctor ordered physical therapy -Attended PT for 2 months and the PT told me it wasnβt muscle-related -Went to a different GI doctor who thought it might have been due to a fissure or consultation (it was definitely not the fissure) -New Doctor then shipped me to an office where I saw three different doctors (a PT, a GI and surgical) -GI ordered an anorectal manometry -PT told me to do more PT first -Surgical couldnβt help -Been going to PT for around 4+ months now with no results -Getting the anorectal manometry at the end of August
This is beginning to get me really depressed and anxious and I just want it to stopβ¦ no one can tell me whatβs wrong or how to solve it. Just wanted to share this here to see if anyone else dealt with something similar and if they found out what it was.
Thanks for reading

My 9 year old Shih Tzu mix had a very small lump near his anus removed 8 days ago and 4 days after surgery, has been experiencing some sort of fecal incontinence. The lump was benign and called a hepatoid gland adenoma. It was not directly on his anus, just at about the 4 o' clock position to the right of it, but still very close. He is leaking stool from his anus (nothing is coming from his wound) throughout most of the day, it's usually in the form of a thin, brown liquid and I have to constantly keep wiping back there so his incision site does not get infected, but when he does go outside to potty, his stools are firm with no sign of diarrhea. He also has not had any accidents in the house, it's just that while he's relaxing or asleep, liquidy stool seeps out. My vet has not been helpful and says lets see what happens after he's healed, but fails to tell me if this could be normal and temporary. I am so worried that this might be permanent for my little guy and I can tell this is bothering him extensively as he comes to me looking scared and uncomfortable every time it happens. Has anyone had a pet undergo perianal surgery that resulted in temporary incontinence (incontinence that resolved after pet was healed)? It would really put my mind at ease to know others have dealt with this and the problem eventually discontinued. I am aware that fecal incontinence is a possible complication of any surgery done on or near the anus or rectum, but I'm hoping it can also be temporary if it occurs. I've included a photo of where his incision and stiches are. The photo is from a few days ago, his bottom no longer has any bruising and looks totally normal now.
I had a lot of pop and spicy stuff and now my incontinence Is worse I think.
I'm scared to be around people cause I'm scared I'll smell I'm 24 and my fecal incontinence is getting worse. How do I manage it and not smell ? I wear diapers btw.
Species: dog
Age: about 5
Sex/Neuter status: female spayed
Breed: American Staffordshire terrier mix
Body weight: 48 lbs
History: 1 year ago was treated for a stump pyometra, had a long but successful recovery. She has a lengthy history of allergies and overall sensitivities, on a limited ingredient diet, gets cytopoint regularly, also takes glucosamine, fish oil and dermaquin per vet guidance
Duration: 1 week
Your general location: Southern California
Clinical signs: Inflamed and irritated anus, leaking feces, mixed hard and soft stools
About a week ago I noticed my dog scooting and trying to get to her butt. I took a look and it was pretty irritated and dirty. I wiped it up and after a few days of no improvement took her to our regular vet on Friday. The vet examined her and said her anal glands were not infected, expressed them, and said the irritation was external and sent us home with Animax ointment. Now this weekend weβve woken up twice to a small poo in the bed, had a little poo in the car and now, just after sleeping curled up on the couch for a few hours, I smelled poo and checked under her tail to find a good amount of poop. It seems like due to the irritation that sheβs having trouble keeping it fully closed. My question is, is this likely to improve once the inflammation comes down with the ointment, or could it be a deeper issue? Thank you in advance.
Pops (90) just got fitted with a ureteral catheter. He also has fecal incontinence. we are worried about poop getting up near the penis/catheter connection = UTI danger.
Anybody know of any adult diapers with an opening for a catheter? So the penis/catheter stays on the outside of / away from the diaper that may end up with feces in it?
might have to macgyver something with a slit or a hole... and suspenders haha
Does anyone suffer from minor fecal Incontinence? I have internal hemmrroids and find most times after a bowel movement I have strong itchy and burning sensation about 15 to 20 min after. I notice that it coincides with the need to clean down there again. Note I have a bidet so after every bowel movement things are as clean as can be to begin with. could this be due to the internal hemmrroids being swollen?
