What is a more important factor in DEF projection models: The average production of that specific defense or the expected production of the offense they face in any given week?

Without accounting for injuries on either side of the ball, what is more important?

Say Defense Team A averages 1 Int., 1 Fumble Rec., 5 Sacks, 10 PA, and 280 YA
Offense of Team B Throws a Pick per game, doesn't fumble, allows 3 sacks per game, scores 24 Pts, and accumulates 330 Yds per game on average.

Which way would the projections tend to skew, more towards the average of the offense or more towards the average of the defense in question.

Critique of Marx's argument that material forces and factors of production are prior to consciousness, ideology, the state, etc.

What are the best critiques of vulgar Marxist base/superstructure analysis, or the general idea that the economic and material factors of life precede all ideology, consciousness, and culture? I don't think Marx gives an argument for this assertion anywhere--in the German ideology he just asserts it and assumes it will be convincing. But who has critiqued this approach to analyzing history, ideology, culture, or just society in general? Who has argued that ideas and that mentalities or thoughts are prior to the material world? I guess another thing I'm asking is who has critiqued Marx on the basis of materialism rather than the predictions he made?

Inspired by what's recently revealed about Hoshiai no Sora and what happened to Index season 3, what are some other examples where decisions by the production committee was the limiting factor in how good a series could've been?

As the title says. Not an hour ago was there revelation about Hoshiai no Sora's run being cut down in half, being axed by the production committee. That got me thinking about other examples where a production committee was going to be primarily responsible for how a story plays out, and the series suffered for it.

when firms are earning short run economic profit, does that just mean all factors of production are earning more than their opportunity cost? so firms entering the industry = labor and capital reallocating towards that industry by forming new firms?

I am just clarifying because for I while i thought owners/entrepreneurs of the firm are separate entites from the factors of production. So when 'firms earn economic profit', i took it to mean that other entrepreneurs will see that they should start businesses in the industry because they could be doing better there. but if i understand correctly, all of these people are also 'factors of production', so the profit function isnt like something a business owner is looking at and making decisions, it is the firm.

Engels says that in the 16th century wealthy merchants had overthrown the guild system and become the primary employers of artisans, turning independent craftspeople into early wage laborers. How and why did this happen? What factors allowed European merchants to seize the means of production?

This class distinction is described in his 1847 Principles of Communism and is clarified further in the footnote about the word "manufacture".

Placing sustainable forest-based tea production factors in Thailand

I met a local Thai vendor who has been working on forest-based tea sourcing and production for some time (met again), leading to reconsidering all that. They're real issues, and there is real potential for positive change. At the same time it has always been troubling to me that marketing seems to be the main driver, not that potential.

This post explores the subject from both sides, placing how much impact there is in Thailand from tea production in relation to palm oil (roughly 1/50th, but things are never that simple), and how it's still a real factor to develop positive uses of goods harvested from old-growth forests here. It also touches on why tea plants are there in old-growth forests in the first place. The short version: no one really knows, but the current best guess is that earlier waves of immigration from China probably had people bringing the plants from Yunnan, versus them spreading naturally on their own.

Supermicro's site doesn't allow you to search for chassis by AIC form factor support, so I created a list that allows you to browse chassis product lines by # & type of AICs supported, rack unit, & # of hot swap 3.5" HDDs

AIC = Add-In Card.

List is here. While I was at it, I did the same for Advantech, AIC, and iStarUSA also.

Did this out of frustration with Supermicro & 3rd party retailer sites (chassis listings seem to be universally terrible.)

A few caveats:

  • List was manually generated and might go out of date without warning. If something needs to be updated, ping me
  • EOLed/discontinued product lines omitted
  • List contains β‰₯ 8 hot swap 3.5" chassis only
  • I tried to include only product lines for which I could find at least one model in stock at a reputable retailer
  • Suggestions welcome, but suggestions that give me more work to do may be less successful ;)

Hopefully this makes shopping for a good server chassis easier.

You can search for and buy models you're interested in brand new at a significant discount using this method.
