A list of puns related to "Extortionist"
I pulled a foil Ragavan and I am trying to make a CEDH [[Feldon of the Third Path]]. I have the option to trade my [[Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer]] for a [[Dockside Extortionist]] at a LGS. I know Ragavan is worth more but I was wondering if he is worth it for CEDH or if he is more or less just a modern staple.
On Magic Reddit and Magic Twitter I regularly hear experienced Commander players talk and complain about recently designed Commander staples in the 99.
Specifically, they argue that these cards are very powerful, unfun and arguably broken. The most common cards that are referred to when people raise these concerns are cards like [[Dockside Extortionist]], [[Fierce Guardianship]], [[Smothering Tithe]], [[Jeska's Will]] and [[Deflecting Swat]].
These are most definitely powerful cards, one could argue that some of these cards are extremely powerful if not outright broken. This means hearing some salt every now about these cards is understandable. However, I also hear about how these cards are harming the format and they are inherently bad designs because they are so powerful.
Highly powerful, versatile and overpowered (or even broken cards) in the Commander format isn't a new phenomenon.
There are tons of stupidly powerful and efficient staples played in the 99 of the format that are more than a few years old. Here are several examples: [[Beast Within]], [[Rhystic Study]], [[Mother of Runes]], [[Lightning Greaves]], [[Craterhoof Behemoth]], [[Mana Crypt]], [[Sylvan Library]], [[Expropriate]], [[Cyclonic Rift]], [[Skullclamp]], [[Council's Judgment]] [[Demonic Tutor]], [[Mox Diamond]], [[Consecrated Sphinx]], [[Ancient Tomb]], [[Vandalblast]], [[Sensei's Divining Top]], [[Reanimate]], [[Sol Ring]] etc.
Note: Obviously all of these classic cards (or new cards) I mentioned don't share the same identical power level. The point is they are all much more powerful than the average card that is introduced into the format.
Why are so many people so fixated on the negative consequences and high power level of a handful of new and recent cards but express very little if any criticism about many of the classic staples?
Ironically, the classic broken staples are often beloved and highly revered by the same players the despise the newer ones.
It's okay that some powerful cards exist. The overwhelming majority of the cards are nowhere near the power level of the cards I mentioned in this post (new or old) but getting new powerful cards added to the format on occasion can be fun and exciting.
It's okay that sometimes new powerful cards get designed. It's actually a good thing. It would be extremely boring if in a social multiplayer high variance 100 card single
... keep reading on reddit β‘Honestly, what do these billionaires think happened before crypto came to life?
Did kidnappers demand goods or services before bitcoin was invented?
Did extortionists barter their personal belongings before crypto surfaced to existence?
Before crypto and arguably after crypto too- the biggest asset which is exchanged during any illegal activity is unforgivingly FIAT.
It's almost like that meme where the structure is like:
Crypto was invented in 2008
Criminals before 2008: Ceased to exist
A mere debauchery of excuse to continue holding the power.
This girl im talking to has a backstory and acts just like an actual person. But things got sexual quick oversnap. And before i go any further i want to know some signs so it doesn't happen to me
Iβm new to edh and I heard this card is good. The single is like $60ish, but the deck it comes in is also $60ish. am I missing something here cause it makes no sense

This is a greater discussion on card evaluation I suppose. I don't understand card evaluation from some people on this sub sometimes. On one of the original posts for speccing on Dockside (back when they were below $10), people were comparing this card to Treasure Nabber. At the time I thought it was a completely ridiculous comparison and I bought 6 copies of Dockside when they were $4. Just because he's red and a goblin doesn't make it anywhere close to the hype of Treasure Nabber. People will say hindsight is 20/20 and we know better now, but anyone who can read and played commander somewhat regularly knew instantly this card was going to be beyond busted. Granted, no one could've known whether any reprints for Dockside were going to happen, but I feel like even if they had re-printed him 3-4 times by now he would STILL be a $15 card at least based on power alone.
The purpose of this post isnβt to shit on people, itβs to understand where the comparisons were being made and how they arrived to those similarities to begin with
If I played [[tempt with reflections]] targeting [[dockside extortionist]], (and theoretically every opponent decides to make a copy), would each one of my copies make treasure tokens for the artifacts the opponentsβ dockside copies make? Or to all copies etb at the same time? I guess what Iβm asking is, do the copies come in in any particular order?
Does anyone have a high quality version of the 2021 edit of Extortionist by D-Sturb? I'm looking to use it in a set of mine :)
I got booted in a Jimmy John's parking lot a few months ago. Well, it was the parking lot of a stip mall where you could park about 12 feet from Jimmy John's But the catch is, technically it's not the JJ's property. So the strip mall property owner hires one of those shady boot-n-tow vehicle impounding businesses to circle the lot like sharks and boot anyone who parks there and enters any establishment not technically part of the strip mall.
Which was me, back in like august.
I picked up a sandwich (freaky fast) and got back to my motorcycle in about 4 minutes, and that asshole had booted me. I was so confused, but he explained that JJ's parking is in an adjacent lot, and this lot was only for the strip mall customers.
I offered to buy a smoothie or something at the strip mall, so I would qualify as one of their customers, but he said it was too late. He saw me walk into JJ's and now I must pay the $80.00 fee to remove the boot.
After about an hour of HEATED argument, I had no choice. I paid the guy. $92 lunch. $12 for the sandwich and chips, and $80 for 4 minutes of parking. Motorcycle parking, no less, which takes up basically zero valuable space.
Anyway since then I've done some research and it turns out that's extortion which is illegal. By law, they are required to remove the boot and mail you the bill if you are not able to pay them on the spot. You know why? Because it's not illegal to NOT HAVE 80 DOLLARS. And what would I do if I got that bill in the mail? Idk, maybe I'd pay it. Or maybe I'd set it ablaze and use it to light a fat spliff because FUCK YOU DON'T STEAL MY MONEY. Parking extortionists aren't the law. I'm not paying them a dime.
So anyway I saw them out booting again at lunch hour, so I figured I'd have a fun time with it. I parked in the JJ's lot, got a hoagie, and walked to the shark lot and waited for people to come out to their booted cars. Then, I interrupted the parking enforcement's whole speech by citing the law which mandates that they unboot the car without payment.
The parking lot guy was livid. And there was nothing he could do about it. Just like how I was livid and there was nothing I could do about it when he booted me back in August. Fuck that business. Fuck that dopey boot guy and his shitty job and his shitty life. I laughed my ass off at him all afternoon.
