A list of puns related to "Evermore"
In honor of evermore, tell us your favorite song from the album and we will guess what your favorite song on folklore is. If you'd rather tell us your favorite song from folklore and we guess your favorite song from evermore, that works too.
Edit: since this is getting really repetitive, you can also comment your favorite LYRICS from folklore and we'll guess your favorite SONG from evermore, or vice versa.

I genuinely love Folklore with all of my heart. The lyrics were so near and dear to my heart upon first listen and I feel like it is an album to listen all the way through, in order, every single time, which is rare. I still feel that way! But a sudden sensation started to kick in at some point urging me to play a song from Evermore a while after it came out and then I became completely hooked listening to Evermore, out of order, and oftentimes not even all the way through ever since. Itβs like a magnetic pull, though, how Iβll be listening to Folklore,βand donβt get me wrong, itβs sad in its own rightβ and then Iβll suddenly be bawling my eyes out to Majorie, happiness, or Coney Island. Hell, even Dorothea. The lyrics are so compelling, emotive, and almost fairytale like; it really taps into my imagination, takes me to another world, and makes me feel deeply. Iβm not sure if thatβs just a preference or if there are many people out there who feel like Evermore is truly a standalone masterpiece.
So as we all know Evermore was nominated for album of the year at the Grammys this week which is very much deserved. Evermore is my favourite album and I prefer and listen to it more than any other album of hers maybe recency bias?
Ever since Taylor released the album last December Taylor sort of forgot about it, I mean the 'era' lasted from December-February with the release of Love Story TV. Evermore was overshadowed by Christmas for its first month and only really had January to shine.
And yes, I know lots of her recent albums haven't had the time to shine before their successor is released e.g. Lover, Folklore and Fearless TV, however, in Evermore's case it was overshadowed the moment it was released as 'Folklore Deluxe' or 'B-Sides' and as only coming 5 months after did not get the hype it deserved.
It is rare Taylor even talks about the album, and whenever she does she 100% always mentions folklore or how evermore is 'folklore's little sister' - when to be frank I find Evermore to be miles more mature than its predecessor thematically. Folklore revolves around a love triangle between teens which as an adult English student I enjoy but don't entirely relate to, whereas, the pain evoked in champagne problems, the poetic nature of ivy and the beauty of gold rush and cowboy like me are mesmerising to me. I could listen to the piano in Evermore for HOURS.
I mean even the fans underrate Evermore and everyone seems to share the same view that 'Folklore is the better album and Evermore has better songs' which I don't agree with at all. This is not a Folklore hate post though, it also deserved AOTY and is a perfect album, however to me does not feel as experimental and poetic as Evermore.
when i first heard nbnc, i was blown away by the uniqueness and figuring out the plot. and i loved the sassy tone of her voice at parts, changing the repetition to tell the story, etc. but now i donβt really love nbnc, itβs not like i hate it but itβs one of my least favs on evermore. now itβs a little annoying sometimes, and not really interesting. for champagne problems, iβve always loved it, from the very first listen. iβve never gotten tired of it, despite learning to play it on the ukelele. the bridge still blow me ever time, but i donβt really need to explain why itβs so magical to you guys haha. and on the other hand, ivy aged so well for me. during my first evermore listen, i immediately discarded ivy because i thought the metaphor was shallow and unoriginal. i didnβt give it unbiased listen after that for a while, but then the next time i listened i realized how beautiful the song was. now i have no idea what my thought process was during that first listen, but iβm so glad i have it another chance because now itβs one of my favs on evermore.
While the prospect of evermore winning AOTY is highly unlikely, the question is if itβs mathematically possible for her to be the underdog and a come from behind victory. I doubt it, but we really need to know the genre breakdown of the 12,000 voting members. If anyone knows this information, please add because this is a key piece of data needed to make a mathematical prediction.
In 2020, 26% were women and 27% were from under-represented groups. Something the Grammyβs are trying to change over the next 5 years. This year, they added 2710 members, 48% female (1355 women added) and 32% black/African American (867.2). All voters are supposed to Vote for the best album, but many if not majority will vote for a representative of their favorite genre. To make a mathematical case, we need to know breakdown of the genres.
Still we can make some mathematical predictions if we assume that the genre representation of voters is equal. It most likely is not equal. But,it would be most fair if the representation from genres was as close as possible.
I counted 15 genres. Pop,RnB, country, Am Roots, rock, rap, jazz, alt,Latin, dance, new age, gospel, reggae, global, classical. Assuming 12000 votes. And letβs assume the voters vote for their genre or closest to it.
Pop vote likely split, Billie/Olivia/Doja and Iβll predict only 10% Taylor. Iβll give Taylor 50% Country, rock, Am Roots, Alternative, New Age. If counting 10% pop and 50% of those listed, I have Taylor receiving more votes than anyone else. But, we need to know the breakdown of genre of voting members, and those numbers. But if they are anywhere equalβ¦., Taylor could win this if she gets the country, rock, Am roots and Alt votes.
EDIT I know itβs Bon Iver but I canβt change the title looool sorry my phone played a joke on me
So Iβm a swiftie and a longtime fan of Emily Dickinson. I havenβt yet watched the new series that features Ivy, but I wrote this in my notes last year the night that Evermore came out and wanted to share it lol. I would be suuuper interested in hearing the perspective of people who have seen the show or other Dickinson fans.
Evermore (the song ft. Bon Iver) is a nod to Emily Dickinson.
(1) Iβll start with what we already knew. First, the song came December 10th, which is Dickinsonβs birthday. Itβs called Evermore, a reference to one of Dickinsonβs poems, βone sister have I in our houseβ
(2) The aforementioned poem was written about Dickinsonβs sister-in-law Susan, who is regarded as her first and greatest love. She frequently used the word βforevermoreβ (or just more) in their correspondences.
(3) A big theme in the song is death/loss, which Dickinson was famous for. She wrote about death in a curious and reverent way rather than fearfully. In βbecause I could not stop for deathβ she welcomes death like an old friend. Something as natural as βcatching oneβs breathβ? π€
(4) We also know that Taylor has found inspiration in famous poets lately, as we heard in βthe lakes.β βTake me to the lakes where all the poets went to dieβ? That entire song reads like a Dickinson letter tbh.
(5) death, continued: the opening lyrics of the song are, βgray November, Iβve been down since Julyβ Late in her life, lots of people close to Emily died around the same time. This took a toll on her, and during the summer soon after, she fainted and fell very ill.
(5) Fire: She was bedridden for the rest of her life, but during that time, she continued to write letters. The song says, βwriting letters, destined for the fire.β Emily had her sister Lavania promise to burn her letters when she died.
(6) Isolation: She burned a lot of it, but when she found the poetry she knew she had to keep it. Emily lived most of her life in extreme isolation. She stayed in her room and wrote, for the most part. No one knew just how much she had written until after she died.
(7) Isolation continued: the song makes lots of references to her being alone in her room: βIn the cracks of light I dreamed of youβ βthe creaks on the floorβ βstaring out an open windowβ
(8) Ocean references: Emily Dickinson was always talking about the ocean. Idk but she loved it. Evermore makes a lot of refe
... keep reading on reddit β‘I have mixed opinions on this. On one hand, with lots of promotion, it could definitely be recognized. But on the other hand, it doesn't exactly seem like it would be a debut album. What is your opinion on this?
I just wanted to reminisce about the time, just one year ago, when we were still innocent and naive and had no idea about the existence of evermore and what was about to hit us just a few days later. That amazing feeling when I first saw the post that evermore was coming...I don't think I've ever experienced that amount of surprise before, and I don't know if I ever will again.
It's been a hell of a year since then - three albums, enough vault tracks to make another full album in itself, an AOTY Grammy, the amazing Grammy performance, the ATW short film, not to mention all the other things such as Taylor's tiktok videos and all the amazing performances we've had.
We really are spoilt, and I just wanted to say a huge "Thank you" to Taylor for an amazing 12 months. Her music has really made the experience of some of the mundane-ness of the current world situation a little more bearable. I can't believe how lucky we are, and I can't believe that so much has fit into just one year.
I's been great, and I'm looking forward to seeing what surprises are around the corner!
Thank you!
I read a comment that said that many of Taylorβs recent accomplishments, in particular her domination of streaming, is related to folklore & how it βreset the trajectory of her career in a beautiful way.β
This got me thinking - what would things look like for Taylor had the sister albums never happened? I know the obvious answers - it got critics & the general public to take her more seriously as an artist & lyricist, thereβs a whole new branch of indie collaborators sheβs made inroads with, allowed her to find new inspiration in fiction, it turned her into a streaming force, etc. - but what are some more nuanced & specific takes/hypothetical βpredictionsβ about what would have happened from an artistic, personal, or public reception perspective?
Personally I was thinking about: What would TS8 look like? Would LoverFest have been rescheduled instead of canceled? How would the re-recordings fare? But feel free to take this hypothetical in any other direction you might be interested in!
Itβs crazy how much this album encapsulates the December feeling to me. As soon as Dec 1 hit itβs all Iβve been able to listen to.
Hearing the full album in order again is fully transporting me back to where I was last December. It might be because the album came out the day after my grandfather passed away, and I was living and working in my grandmothers house which i havenβt been back to since. It was a very distinct, memorable time and all i listened to was Evermore.
Because the stupid love triangle isn't there!
I know a lot of people see Willow as a continuation of it, but I consider Betty the final chapter in that story and Willow a whole new one.
Seriously as someone who does not care for James, nor see's it as some lesbian love triangle (Ivy supremacy). Having to remember that Betty takes back the trash and reminding myself that I can interpret it how I want is just draining. Also the lyrics of Betty are infuriating to me (though I find it a super catchy song.)
I feel I don't have to do any of that with Evermore. While there are some very clear storylines there's no set lore. I donβt have to do any of the mental gymnastics when listening to it. I can just take it as it is, or imagine my own stories within the songs. Which makes it a really enjoyable relaxing album for me.
Does anyone else feel like this? There are definitely other reasons I prefer Evermore, however someone else's post made me realise how much I side eye the love triangle. To the point it actually takes away from the album for me.
As they say though, arts meant to make you feel something. Which the love triangle definitely does make me feel some kind of way! π
Edit: After much thought I am a James-anti, if you are pro-James this thread ain't for you.
Second edit: Because I'm worried people are taking this way more seriously then I meant it too come across and this was just meant to be a light hearted rant about how I don't like the the love triangle and it personally takes away a bit from Folklore for me. It wasn't any criticism towards Taylor or the story telling. I don't think it's bad storyline or the songs are bad. Or you can't interrupt it how you want. I just don't enjoy it. I am capable of thinking something is good but not enjoying it, those things aren't mutually exclusive to me. This really wasn't meant to be an attack on anyone real, just James the character (you suck!)
Third Edit: Well I think this thread is losing steam. I really didn't think I would create this much discourse over my opinion, I thought I'd just be ignored or get a few replies but the internets a crazy place. I hope you all have good holidays. I hope it's filled with joy, peace, and Taylor.
for me it's kinda the whole album ngl, but especially closure and evermore. I just kinda didn't care about both of them, and now are my favorites from the album. I feel like evermore is more difficult to love at first listen (unlike folklore), but it grows in time until you can actually appreciate it. a couple months ago I would have said that I preferred folklore, and now evermore is my fav album from Taylor, so :)
It feels like kind of a stupid reason, but because of all the Evermore anniversary memes that have been appearing lately, I actually did realize that I have been largely absent from that album after my first few listens right when it came out.
I decided to listen again just now as I'm on a long train ride home for christmas and wow, why have I ignored Evermore like that? I felt as though my memories of Folklore and Evermore seemed to blend into one another over the past year, but what I didn't notice is that in reality they blended into something that is essentially only Folklore.
And don't get me wrong, I adore Folklore and it carries with it the extra weight of introducing this whole new era of songwriting in Taylor's songwriting. But damn - Evermore is a sister-album both in terms of style and quality.
I don't know if that makes sense, but right now it kind of feels like Evermore is yet another step up the songwriting ladder. Like, Folklore had great lyrics but Evermore? At points it feels more... serious? Like it sometimes carries even more depth and weight with it. Everything about those songs feels so haptically beautiful too, like a really well-treated piece of natural, solid wood.
I don't know why I'm writing this and making weird comparisons between Songs and... wood - but I felt like I had to share my thoughts as I'm listening, Evermore will definitely be in my rotation for a while after this train ride.
Taylor Swift is super famous for writing biographical songs that most of the times reflect her relationships or breakups. But I wonder what are all the songs she wrote for other characters - fictional or real life ones - before she wrote Folklore and Evermore that specialized her non-biographical songwriting? I know Ronan and Starlight from her album Red as well as Death By A Thousand Cuts from Lover. Are there any others too?
After the album came out the song became my instant favorite(the piano chord progression the time signature the heart wrenching lyrics etc. ..) and I always think the song is about her relationship with her father rather than what most would've assumed, a romantic relationship... today in the shower I randomly gave it a listen and instantly the thought clicked and I feel the lyrics made more sense with this interpretation. Just a random thought, but do give tolerate it a listen, it's superb.
Hey guys! A few months ago I shared that I completed my thesis on Taylor, folklore and evermore. My course has completed and I can finally share the link. https://eprints.whiterose.ac.uk/180852/1/dissertation%20final.pdf
Thank you to everyoneβs kind kind comments last time. It honestly meant so much to me β€οΈ
They're sister albums, but they each still have their own sound.
Besides the fact that itβs a super gay album. Iβm legitimately curious to hear your guysβ theories on why she didnβt acknowledge it, makes me really sad. π
Hi everyone,
Going to try something new this year. Since we don't allow one year anniversary posts but there is usually good discussion that comes one year after an album drops, we are going to test out a one year later thread.
