A list of puns related to "Election Petition"
A group of Amazon.com Inc. AMZN 1.52% warehouse employees in the New York City borough of Staten Island have withdrawn their petition with the National Labor Relations Board to hold a union election at four company warehouses, a labor board spokeswoman said Friday.
The fledgling union, which calls itself the Amazon Labor Union, said it had to withdraw because the labor board, a federal agency that oversees collective bargaining, had communicated that it no longer had adequate support to move forward with an election.
To meet the requirement, unions typically have to collect signatures from 30% of workers showing support. The change came after many workers who had shown support for a union left the company, according to Chris Smalls, a former Amazon employee who leads the group. He said the union planned to collect more signature cards and refile for an election. βAs soon as we can get enough cards, weβll resubmit,β he said. An Amazon spokeswoman said the companyβs focus βremains on listening directly to our employees and continuously improving on their behalf.β
The union push in New York is the biggest challenge to Amazon of organized labor since a failed unionization effort earlier this year in Alabama. It also represents another battle for Amazon at its New York hub. In 2018, Amazon had selected the city as part of its so-called βHQ2ββ development around the same time union leaders had been rallying support for workers to unionize on Staten Island. The union effort fizzled out, though Amazon also abandoned its HQ2 plans in New York.
Recently on a Reddit AMA, Jyoti refused to answer the most upvoted question. "Will you disclose your donors before election day?" Let Jyoti know that you will NOT consider voting for her, or anyone else, unless they releases their donor list prior to election day.
Edit: This includes other Candidates such as Farkas and Davidson, who have promised to release their donor list before election day, but have yet to do so.
I'm serious.
Petitions collected by Sawant supporters hoping to force a vote this November on the red table.

At 2 PM on Tuesday September 7, the Erie County Board of Elections will take in-person public comment (3 minutes per speaker) at a meeting to consider action (whether to appeal on behalf of India Walton) on the recent federal and state court rulings regarding the βBuffalo Partyβ independent nominating petition of Byron Brown. The meeting will take place on the third floor of 134 West Eagle Street. Masks are required. Source.
Background: On Friday, two courts (federal and state) ruled that Byron Brown can appear on the November ballot as an independent candidate. Brown had petitioned to run as an independent after he lost the Democratic primary to India Walton, but the Erie County Board of Elections rejected his petition since the deadline to file as an independent fell before the primaries. Brown sued the Erie BOE, arguing that he filed on the date the deadline fell on prior to 2019, when New York passed a law that moved state primaries three months earlier to combine them with federal primaries. Brown alleged that the law violates the first amendment (freedom of expression) and fourteenth amendment (equal protection under the law) because it made the filing deadline too early.
Democratic nominee India Walton is now planning to make an appeal with the Board of Elections and has called out the federal judge John L. Sinatra for not recusing from the case given that the Brown administration awarded his brother's firm, Sinatra and Company, a multi-million dollar government-subsidized Canalside redevelopment contract and given Brown has appeared in a Sinatra and Company PR video. Walton previously missed the filing deadline to appear as the Working Families Party's mayoral candidate, but said she will not challenge that deadline in light of Brown's legal victory.
Firstly, I think that, as a matter of principle, nobody should be allowed to view the results of a meta election until after the election has closed. Because there is no rule against this, or against meta-whipping, it is currently completely permitted for moderators to view the results of a vonc against them, while the vote is ongoing, and then message people to ask them to vote in their favour, which could change the outcome of the vote. This has happened in the past, and will continue to happen unless this petition passes.
The 20 minute exception is probably confusing at first, but it is intended to allow moderators to prepare the results of the election, so that they can be reported on the subreddit or discord when the election ends. If moderators choose to view the results in the final 20 minutes, they canβt use those results for any purpose other than preparing the results for reporting (ie they canβt tell their friends to change their votes because theyβre about to get vonced for example).
I want to add that I know this will be next to impossible to enforce, but I also submit that it is still vastly better than the current system, which is the Wild West. I think it is better to have a rule which bans this type of behaviour, even if it is difficult to enforce, than to have nothing, which implicitly allows these abuses to occur.
Credit to u/SprinklyDinks for drafting the amendment.
I move the following amendment
After subsection
4(14) insert,
>Protection of Results
>
>(15) No person shall be allowed to view the results of a meta referendum more than 20 minutes prior to the close of the meta referendum.
>
>(16) Subsection 15 shall not apply for the first 20 minutes of a meta referendum for the purposes of testing the ballot only.
>
>(17) Subsection 15 shall not apply to moderators who choose to view the results for the purpose of preparing the results for reporting, which shall only be allowed in the final 20 minutes of voting.
Hi,
Petitioning this because late October/early November election dates clash with New Zealand's university exams and clearly mid to late November clashes with Australia's exams which is a bad deal for both.
Therefore I propose that we (I don't know what the right wording would be and frankly this isn't a rule change so I don't think it's more an amendment than it is a petition for an exception under the context of an amendment) simply extend the allowed term time in the constitution so that any election would have to occur after December 3.
This is proposed for the following reasons:
This isn't strictly the wording for an amendment I suppose as I haven't proposed the exact wording as I'd be interested in everyone else's input first
Our last primary was clearly invaded by Georgists from the Federal Republican Party. I am sure that a majority of the Farmer-Labor party who voted for Bidwell and Trumbull would never have voted for George. His anti-worker and anti-civil rights stances are much closer to those of the Federal Republicans. Therefore, I call for the rejection of George from the party.
This is a bit of news that kinda sucks to share, but the petition is closed now that Canada is in election season. We made it really far too! Collected enough signatures from all over the country to get certified and had the petition make it to the House of Commons. Unfortunately, the election was called right around the time we were supposed to get a response.
I'm not too upset by all this though. We already got a petition to certification once. I'm sure we can do it once more when another government forms. We'll even have more time to put it all together. In any case, there isn't that much else to say about this for now. Thanks to everyone who signed, and see you guys in four or so months when petition submissions open up again!
The petition can still be found here: https://petitions.ourcommons.ca/en/Petition/Details?Petition=e-2964
