Dr. Gary DeMar explains how we translate the word "Ekklesia" is so significant that it was one of the reasons William Tyndale was labeled a heretic (which partially lead to his death)... here is some audio getting into the importance of this.

Dr. Brown debates Dr. Gary DeMar on replacement theology, the nation of Israel as fulfillment of prophecy, and God’s future plans for the Jewish people

So starting 21 minutes into that debate you can listen to him explain some of the controversy surrounding this greek word and its importance.

Also the purpose of this post is not to debate all the details on the cause of William Tyndale's death, I don't really know enough of the details to have an informed opinion at the moment, but he does talk about it some in that audio.

The main thing is to realize that remembering to pay attention to how things are translated can be extremely important.

The Origins of the Ekklesia ("Church")

I've heard the claim a number of times that "the origins of the word 'church' point to a place of worship." On r/askRPC a user asked if it's a biblical command to attend a weekly service. Other similar issues arise frequently, so let's talk about this.

"Church" is NOT Derived from Ekklesia

You heard me right. "Church" is one of the translations we have given to the word Ekklesia, but that's not the etymological root. The word we derived "church" from is actually German: Kirche. Some suggest that this may have come from the ancient Greek Kuriakon (or sometimes conjugated Kuriakos).

  • Kirche in the German referenced a building or location.

  • Kuriakon in the Greek generally means "belonging to a lord."

It's not hard to see how some people would confuse the location of the church with something belonging to God. After all, even the Jews before the cross understood the notion of devoting land and property to God (Mark 7:9-13, for example). That said, anyone looking at the two can obviously see that the two words split significantly in their definitions and historical use.

The latter is only used twice in the Bible, and never as a reference to the church. The first is in 1 Cor. 11:20 regarding eating "the Lord's supper." The other is in Revelation 1:10, referencing "the Lord's day." Note, of course, the comparison with Kyrios (sometimes Kurios), which is the Greek for "lord" and often used to reference Jesus throughout most of the epistles.

The Original Ekklesia

When talking about the Church, there are two Greek words that are translated as such: Ekklesia and Koinonia.

Koinonia is the word used to describe the spiritual connectivity of the Church. It is generally used to reference a oneness bond existing throughout a group. It's where we get the word "communion" from, as the KJV translated it that way and the word stuck. During "communion" we share a oneness with Christ. In the same way, Koinonia references, on occasion, the oneness that exists among a body of believers - that we are united in Christ, despite being different members of a singular body.

Ekklesia (or Ecclesia) is the word used to describe the structure of the church. It had an established meaning in the Greek language. While "church" to us seems like a uniquely religious word that predominantly applies to Christians, that wasn't the case for Ekklesia in the Greek language that most of the new testament was written in. It was a commonly understood term for a political (

The Messianic Ekklesia of the Omega Kingdom (MEOK): The Cult of Hank Quantrill and its Teachings (REDUX)

In the world of American religion, the various streams of fringe and divergent doctrine had always existed apart from one another, only converging to denounce each other. Save for the Latter-Day Saints, no religious movement so exemplified the hyper-individualist and rebellious nature of American religion more than the Messianic Ekklesia of the Omega Kingdom (MEOK). Officially incorporated in 2015, the MEOK was the brainchild of former high school Football coach Hank Quantrill and his wife, Evangeline, as a result of several factors, including the effect of anti-psychotic drugs and experimentation with various hallucinogenic substances. The birth of the MEOK can be seen in early 2000s, when “Coach Hank” allegedly had his first vision and heard what he believed to be the voice of God. Following this encounter in 2008, he took to social media and the Internet as an eccentric preacher hawking a similar brand found in other fire-and-brimstone Charismatic churches. 2009 saw the introduction of several “New Age” beliefs and practices, among which was the consumption of a potent hallucinogenic mushroom by way of bread, which Quantrill called “the Bread of the Presence” in reference to the bread which was displayed in the Temple of Solomon.

In 2015, Quantrill prophesied that Donald J. Trump would win the presidency. Roundly mocked by the rest of the Evangelical establishment and talking heads, Quantrill alleged that Trump was to be a “King Cyrus” for the modern America, and would usher in a revival of the Christian faith in the nation. When Trump was elected in November 2016, the nation was stunned, and Quantrill gained a larger following. The next four years saw the MEOK incorporate more aspects of the New Age and the “Hebrew Roots” movements, as well as the assimilation of the growing QAnon conspiracy theory. One doctrine which came to the forefront was the teaching that the Christ, now a spiritual entity which existed before the earthly Jesus of Nazareth, had incarnated on the earth several other times in the persons of various Biblical characters; Adam, Enoch, Melchizedek, Isaac, Joseph the patriarch, Joshua, and King David were taught to have been the past lives of Jesus of Nazareth. This later expanded to include the past President John Fitzgerald Kennedy as an incarnation of the Christ, and by 2019 some followers had come to believe that Quantrill was the next incarnation of the Messiah.

President Trump’s loss in the 2020 election led to a crisis for

The Apostolic Ekklesia of the Omega Kingdom: The End-Times in an Age of Old Gods

Among the most prevalent developments following the Second Coming was a major upswing in religiosity across much of the Free Human world. While Great Britain turned inwards and called upon the power of Arthurian legend, America’s long history of Christian apocalyptic anxieties came back with a vengeance, and from the birth pangs of the Third Great Awakening would come a religious denomination which has since become emblematic of the spiritual state of America in this day and age: the Apostolic Ekklesia of the Omega Kingdom. Born from the perfect storm of the “Kingdom Now” Dominionism of some radical Pentecostals and the apocalyptic religious zeal wrought by the arrival of the Old Gods, the AEOK was established as a grassroots movement led by a loose association of self-identified “Apostles and Prophets of Jesus Christ,” who were usually prominent Evangelical ministers with a charismatic bent before the Second Coming. The AEOK can’t be traced back to just one founder; it’s origins lie in the ministries of several prominent apocalyptic preachers and teachers in the days that preceded the Return, among them such figures as Mark Taylor, the “Firefighter Prophet,” and other right-wing conspiracy theorist types. While it was readily dismissed as a sham and a grift by early critics, no one was prepared for how rapidly the sect would rise to prominence. Many Pentecostal and Evangelical congregations fell under its banner within months and the first years that followed, and in time many Congressmen and leaders became members of the sect. Mainline Protestant and Roman Catholic churches diminished as the AEOK grew, and in time only the solidly Baptist south and Mormon west remained the only areas where the sect had not yet sank its tendrils.

Aside from its inroads into the United States and it’s associated nations, the AEOK has made great strides in Latin America as Catholicism shrank, riding on a previous wave of Protestant growth in the region and eventually becoming the de-facto state religion of Brazil as its Pentecostal plurality unified under the sect. While it would appear that Roman Catholicism has lost its hold, the Catholic Church holds on in Argentina, Chile, and other Latin countries, while Brazil continues to enforce the will of the AEOK.

The AEOK is officially led by a council of leaders known as the “Apostolic Council of Prophetic Elders,” which consists of those men and women who have taken for themselves (and supposedly proven through miracles) t

The Messianic Ekklesia of the Omega Kingdom: The Cult of Hank Quantrill and its Teachings

(This is for a map made by u/Rolan1880 centered around a Taiping Rebellion scenario based on the conspiracy-cult of QAnon. Through collaborating and putting our heads together, he used his talent to put together the map I’ll link to this post, and I would help to craft the precise teachings of the cult itself. Enjoy!)

• Overview: The religious movement known as the Messianic Ekklesia of the Omega Kingdom (MEOK) can be traced back to various fringe movements in American Evangelicalism and religion; the influence of the “Hebrew Roots” Movement, “Seven Mountains” Dominionism, New Age spiritualism, Charismatic Christianity, and right-wing extremism ultimately form the basis for much of its doctrine, as well as along with a shared belief in numerology, astrology, naturalism, and other such things. While these things form the basis for the sect’s doctrine, the core of its message revolves around the teachings and revelations of its founder, Hank Quantrill, a former Football coach who was “revealed” as the reincarnation of Jesus Christ after a bout of COVID-19 in tandem with experimentation with various psychedelics, including peyote. Quantrill, who is worshipped as “the Savior and Lawgiver,” holds a special place in the sect’s teachings as a Messiah figure, who will usher in a new golden age.

• Theology: Hank Quantrill believed himself to be the most recent incarnation of the Christ, who was not a single being but was a cosmic entity known to Kabbalahists as “Adam Kadmon.” Other incarnations of the Christ are believed to be many; Adam in the Garden, Enoch the patriarch, Melchizedek the priest-king of Salem, Joseph who was sold into slavery into Egypt, Jeshua the scribe of Moses who led the Israelites into Canaan, David the King of Israel, Jesus the Messiah, and former president John Fitzgerald Kennedy. The sect teaches that the Christ incarnates at important moments in human history to bring humanity closer to achieving full union with the Divine, and intervenes in important moments to preserve humanity. While the Christ truly ascended in the person of Jesus, Quantrill taught that the Christ had returned in the visage of an imperfect man to elevate “Christ Consciousness,” thus leading humanity to a spiritual rebirth. The cult teaches that the Son/Christ is the “Firstborn of Creation,” and is not equal to the Father, who is the only god. The Holy Spirit is the “Shekhina Glory of God,” which is a feminine being associated with moth

That was the message I just received from xcbbcx in reply to a completely unrelated subject. Unfortunately, you won't be able to read it for yourselves, because he immediately deleted it after posting it.

/r/Ekklesia...a subreddit ostensibly formed to discuss Christianity in a "troll-free" environment...more like a subreddit where anything even approaching a dissenting opinion is ruthlessly expunged.

Have fun in your echo chamber, kids.

EDIT: By the way, I've been informed that this ban extends to the rest of you as well.
