What is the process for receiving someone into Orthodoxy from an Eastern Catholic church? Since ECs are already engaging in Orthodox liturgy, it seems like it would be a simple transition for the person making the leap. But would the person still have to go through a process of Orthodox catechetical instruction and then be newly Chrismated and/or baptized?

I was just curious, coming from a Roman Catholic background myself. I know a lot of ECs think of themselves as "Orthodox in communion with Rome," but I don't know how genuine that is in practice. The EC churches seem like a strange no-man's land where people worship like the Orthodox but are still bound to believe Catholic dogma, which I'd think would hinder a full development of an Orthodox phronema.

During the reformation, Martin Luther invoked the Orthodox Church as an example of Christians continuing to hold to ancient practices and beliefs after the west had succumbed to corruption. What if instead of merely using Orthodoxy as a cudgel against Rome, Luther and the other reformers joined the eastern church, sparking a mass defection from west to east?

Are Eastern Orthodox priest valid priest in the Catholic Church and is there bread actually turned into the body of Christ? What are Eastern Catholics? I hear people say Eastern Catholics but what is a Eastern Catholic?

I want to learn more about Eastern Orthodoxy and I am particularly interested in hearing from people that came from a protestant background and converted to Eastern Orthodoxy, but anyone can comment. I live in the US and this is probably the denomination of Christianity that I know the least about and hear the least about due to distance.

I personally believe that anyone who follow Jesus as Lord is a fellow brother and sister in Christ and I do not want to talk bad about any denomination here.

This is a report on a project by a team of scholars, theologians and psychologists from the University of Exeter and Fordham University from 2017-2020 regarding the inclusion of LGBTQ+ persons in the Eastern Orthodox Church.

The format of the volume consisted of 10 anonymous essays representing a wide range of perspectives. Because this was an open forum, views ranged from inclusive to ultra-reactionary (for which I will mark for trigger warnings due to homophobia/transphobia.) These included:

• Questioning, from an Orthodox perspective, sexuality and marriage as inherently utilitarian/procreative, leading to the suggestion that conservative views on homosexuality should be reconsidered.

• Questioning, from an Orthodox perspective, the inherent 'Orthodoxy' of upholding gender binarism.

• Restating familiar arguments within progressive Christianity for reanalysis of translations in OT/Pauline letters, and arguing for cultural-contextual readings of passages traditionally interpreted as condemning homosexuality and gender variance.

• Analyzing cultural understandings of human sexuality rooted in traditional Orthodox doctrine, from biblical/Roman to Byzantine and medieval Slavic times (e.g., based on 'acts' rather than orientation, 'top vs bottom', hierarchical distinction instead of homo vs. hetero), and whether or not this should still applicable to Orthodox Christians today. (Interestingly, I was surprised that in Byzantium, apparently being a top in a homosexual act was considered more sinful than being a bottom, reversing what I'd assumed previously.)

• Non-theological essays advocating for the modern science of gender/sexuality, as well as theories of Judith Butler, but with no reference to their applicability to Orthodox Christians.

• At least two of the participants were Orthodox theologians arguing for upholding the Church's condemnation of homosexuality and gender variance, including one who

In the Roman Catholic church, for example, the Cistercian Order followed a very moderate aniconism (prefered not to use or have icons).

So right now there are still churches that have no images in them.

1- Can an Eastern Catholic attend, take comunion in an Eastern Orthodox church ?

2- What are the differences in the Divine liturgy between EC and the EOC ?

3- Other than the EC accepting the authority of the pope what are other major differences between the EC and the RC, which on the other hand are similar to the EOC?

I am a Roman Catholic that has a deep respect for Eastern Orthodoxy. I admire the tenacity of it's adherents through all of disasters that have befallen the lands that it is prevalent in. I would really like to see ecumenism be successful as Jesus did not want his followers to be divided. What is the general opinion amongst the members of this server on Roman Catholicism? I would genuinely appreciate honest and even critical conversation.
