A list of puns related to "Documentary Hypothesis"
During Baden's recent Yale Bible Study session for Exodus, I asked a quick question about Friedman's literary breakdown and his personal recommendations. This may be documented elsewhere I have yet to find, but I thought it was worth pinning down: evidently, he's not a fan of Friedman's popular work (The Bible with Sources Revealed) and cannot endorse any current full-length publications (either for accuracy or usability).
From the follow-up mass email (Jan 20, 2022):
>Question: Are there any publications that identify the full JEDP texts particularly well? (And are there any to avoid?)
>
>There are plenty to avoid β sorry to say, including Richard Friedmanβs, which are the most popular and accessible. At this moment, there arenβt any recent publications that provide the full breakdown in a way Iβd be satisfied with. My book (Composition of the Pentateuch) does some but not all of this kind of work. My hope is that weβll have something out there in the not-too-distant futureβ¦
Last April, Baden also posed a question on Twitter about setting up a website with his own divisions, but I have not seen any follow-up on this (and last week he vocally dodged an Exodus Q/A question about publishing his own edition).
From Twitter (April 15, 2021):
>[...] Would people out there be interested in a website that contained the (my) source-critical breakdown of the entire Pentateuch? With the capacity to read each of the sources individually?
>
>And maybe with a comment feature to allow visitors to ask questions or pose alternatives? And maybe with a track changes feature so you can see when and where Iβve changed my mind? And maybe with occasional commentary from me on why I think a passage belongs to a given source?
>
>Follow-up: I havenβt the slightest idea how to actually build or design such a site. So...anyone out there know how, or know someone who does? It *seems* like it would be simple, but I donβt really know. I can picture what it would look like...
So, hopefully he'll be releasing something relatively soon. He sees a need, and he's made inquiries.
Relatedly, this does make me wonder...
Hi, I was going to ask for an edition of the Torah which color-codes the sources of the Documentary Hypothesis here. (I'm aware of The Bible with Sources Revealed but for some unexplicable reason, it choses basically four diferent tones of blue-greenish which I have trouble differentiating.) But I've found it exists on Wikipedia. What is super neat about is that it allows to read individual sources in isolation (e.g. P), which is what I want to do to see how they feel as independent texts). So in case you are not aware of it, here you go :)
The first in a series of counter claims Bokovoy will next go into implications for LDS scripture. Link
Is there any papers or books which attempt to ascribe specific verses from the Pentateuch to specific sources and has these all listed out? Like for instance, is there a comprehensive list of which parts of Genesis are Yahwist versus Elohist, etc.?
Iβve heard a lot of misinformation from Christian apologists, so I want to know what exactly the Documentary Hypothesis is and isnβt.
From what I have learned while browsing both this sub and /r/AcademicBiblical is that the documentary hypothesis (DH) has started to fall out of favor. What are the most common viewpoints on the DH in the scholarly community nowadays?
Question above, not rhetorical, genuinely curious. Personally a trinitarian universalist Christian, believes in Jesusβ life death and resurrection. How do you reconcile the historical unreliability and religious syncretism in the Old Testament to Jesus having been who he said he was?
I just bought the New Oxford annotated Bible and was curious about the above. Are there flaws to this theory that other theories have attempted to correct?
I recently discovered the Sapir Whorf Hypothesis and I was wondering if there are any other texts out there that do something like this because it doesn't seem to be an idea that is much explored in texts. I know of one other film - "Arrival" that explores this idea but I'm looking for something that is more related to 1984 as well, where an individual's human experience/collective expereince is explored in a semi-dystopic world.
I greatly appreciate any suggestions!
Or the sometimes very complex redaction theorized a modern construct imposed to how people in antiquity dealt with sources?
Hello - I'm not a scholar myself but I've always been interested in certain details surrounding the creation of the Torah/Old Testament. I've read that it was put together over hundreds of years by different groups of scribes. Considering that the document would be considered holy, how would the community react to these groups of scribes/elites constantly changing it? Would the average Israelite even be aware? What about the communities of scribes, judges, priests?
Is there a resource out there which shows the change in suspected authors in Genesis? I have just begun looking into the JEDP sources and was hoping to find a list of passages ascribed to the assorted voices. Thanks in advance for any help!
I've been trying to find a copy of the Pentateuch that highlights which suspected source wrote each section. I'm not really looking for a book about the authorship of the Bible; I would prefer just a text that I can read for myself, but broken down by author. Does anyone know of such a version?
I'm not comparing the two, I'm just saying that Social Constructivism is gonna get the same treatment eventually where every single one of its flaws and inaccuracies are gonna get publicized and generally looked upon as some stupid thing we used to believe.
The reason for that is because like the Diet-Heart Hypothesis, Social Constructivism has a lot of impact on how society is being run or maybe more accurately how people are trying to make society run.
You know, we used to be told to avoid cholesterol like the plague or at least think that we aren't doing ourselves favors by eating food rich in it but nowadays the Keto diet is extremely popular and that basically tells us to chug as much saturated fat and cholesterol as we can, not to put too fine a point on it. Also, the American Heart Association has now officially said that cholesterol is not a nutrient of concern for overconsumption.
Right now with Social Constructivism people are blaming a lot of the differences between men and women on upbringing instead of just acknowledging that we're simply different by nature and so there are currently pushes to get women to take on more roles that men typically take on and for men to take on roles that women typically take on.
But no matter how much some people want the number of men and women to be equally distributed throughout every field and to do away with gender roles, its just not gonna happen as long as free will exists and I believe the idea that it can happen just by raising kids differently and socializing people differently is gonna be debunked beyond a shadow of a doubt one day.
Is this accurate? Can anyone speak to the validity that the First 5 are a unity?

Hey, I was wondering if anyone had reconstructed all the text from each of the different authors of the Pentateuch. I'd like to try reading it again based on author.
