A list of puns related to "Dkm"
im very sorry for posting on this subreddit because i cant call myself a linux noob anymore, but i didnt find any answers anywhere else
Guys for all of those who use nvidia-installer-dkms facing issues with the proprietary nvidia drivers, just remove the 20-nvidia.conf by
sudo rm -rf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-nvidia.conf
And it should just work. It's worked for me. Turns out it wasn't an issue of the drivers or xorg.
I'd like to install the ddcci-dkms
package which adds the ddcci-backlight driver (to control external monitor brightness with the same brightness keys on the keyboard as my internal laptop monitor). However, I get this install error:

I assume this is because Pop!_OS ships with a custom kernel? Is there a way to add support for this kernel? I'm not sure if this is a "you're using it wrong" thing, or if I need to help contribute somewhere.
hello, im trying to update my OS to the newest one and aswell download new applications. im trying to get itunes on Pop Os at the moment.
I've recently become obsessed with immutable/transactional/atomic linux OS's and have lived on Silverblue for a few months and absolutely love it. That said I'm really suffering without having access to zfs. I know it's a weird thing to be using on a desktop but I really love it. Silverblue doesn't really support dkms modules so I'm basically stuck without it.
I've never used opensuse in any form before but I've been using linux for over a decade and I think I'll be able to figure things out as I go, but before I make the jump I was just curious if it's possible to get zfs working on microos (and possibly other dkms modules like vhba) natively and as you would expect?
is there a place i can go to to see the differences between how silverblue with rpm-ostree works vs how microos works?
I guess as a side question, should microos be considered stable enough for everyday use or is it still alpha/experimental?
edit: and i guess as a final question if it does support modules is it possible to install things that require modules that don't actually exist inside of the repositories? like for example maybe vmware or the virtualbox module
I just built my new computer and I'm using an Radeon rx 6900 xt oc GPU. I am new to Pop Os and Linux. I've only played around a little bit with various distros on a virtual machine. I had no problem with the new upgrade but I just went to run my weekend updates and upgrade and I got this error message back after the upgrade.
"Errors were encountered while processing:
amdgpu-dkms
amdgpu
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)"
I have also had no success with installing the AMD drivers for this video card and after a bit of looking through the internet and files I came across the "make.log" in the amdgpu folder and it states that:
"make: Entering directory '/usr/src/linux-headers-5.15.5-76051505-generic'
/var/lib/dkms/amdgpu/5.11.32-1337797/build/Makefile:26: "Local GCC version 110202 does not match kernel compiler GCC version 110200" "
I have full functioning screen and all that but I have noticed that non of the three fans are running. I have yet to find a benchmarking tool to test them let alone a game that I can get that is free to test them and really stress it out to get over the possible 60C limit that I read these new GPU cards have that keep the fans from running.
I found posts and websites from 2020 about AMD GPU cards not working with Ubuntu Distros and that the way to fix it is to go back to a previous Linux Kernel. I'm not confident enough in my skills yet but will practice on a VM if that is the only way to get this GPU working.
Any help would be highly appreciated. I am surprisingly loving Pop OS, (I'm really not a fan of the Gnome shell and prefer Openbox and XFCE [was playing around with Arch and Sabayon Distros when I started my Linux journey]) I don't want to have to leave Pop OS because of a incompatibility issue with the card.
Is there any Pop OS documentation like the Arch Documentation that I can get a hold of so I don't ask questions that are fully documented and waste time asking? not sure how this community is about asking questions yet.
Thank you for you're time.
I was playing on my computer but then i accidentaly opened a discord link by mistake and due to how slow my comp is it lagged and froze and then i held the power key and turned it off. when i turned it back on it sent me to a command line which was something fda or something like that and i followed a yt vid to fix it.
but when i started my comp up my whole comp was in 640x480 resolution and since then whenever i try to install my drivers or install anything it always tells me.(down). I have to purge delete the drivers and then i can install anything. pls help
