A list of puns related to "Dispossessed"
I'm new to AoS Lore and was getting interested into Duradin lore, with the Fyreslayers and Kharadron Overlords looking really cool.
I read something about the Dispossessed, who seem to live in a Limbo of being part of the Free People and kinda their own thing.
I looked up some pictures and was pretty bummed, because it seemed to me that GW just recycled Warhammer Fantasy Battle Dorfs.
Then again I'm really new to AoS Lore and maybe there are some big differences I just don't see.
Can please someone explain this to me? Did GW really just grab the old molds for Dorfs and just went "Yeah I can reuse those!"?
Hey y'all. I wanted to start reading Ursula K. Le Guin and it seemed to me the Dispossessed was a good place to start since its considered one of her most recommended books around here. Spoilers ahead!
And I do like the political landscape and setting and I think she delivered very well on that aspect. But my I don't know why but I expected more of a woman aa the writer? The woman are described as any man would write woman, quite objectified, which I do not care so much about since most old sifi has its problems with woman. But then Shevek almost raped Vea? That came so out of nowhere to me and felt so ... unnecessary? It was clear there was sexual tension even tho he has a partner and she has a partner, but his assult on her when he got drunk... that kinda threw me out of the story.
I haven't finished the book yet so I don't know if there will be an aftermath to that, but somehow I think if a man had written this it would've been r/menwritingwoman material.
Or am I missing something?
I previously owned a 6th edition Warhammer Fantasy Dwarf army and I'm trying to get into AoS with Dispossessed being the logical choice! Feedback on the list I've pulled together would be really appreciated:
I made a fun non-competitive/Narrative list for AoS. I played Dwarfs on WHFB and was missing my traditional Dawi. Let me know what you all think?
Cities of Sigmar: Tempest Eye
Heroes
Warden King
Runelord
Runelord
Cogsmith -battalion grand battery
Gotrek
Battle line
10x Hammerers
20x Ironbreakers
20x Irondrakes
10x Longbeards
Artillery
2x Helblaster Volley Gun
Other 2x gyrocopters
I know these are her two most famous books but I have no idea what either one is about. I love going into books completely blind not knowing anything. So without too much spoiling into what I'm getting into, which one do you recommend I start with?
I present to you all, my theoretical wishlist for the rumored and (hopefully) eventual range refresh and Orruk Warclanification of the disparate Dwarfish factions. A united book for the Fyreslayers, Kharadron Overlords, Dispossesed (who won't be so dispossesed anymore).
So, as far as the story goes... here's some light theorycrafting....
The Fyreslayers will come to common ground with the KO (probably involving Gotrek and/or Grombrindal returned in some capacity) and through that cooperation will finally find the last remnant of Grimnir/Vulcatrix somewhere in Aqshy/Chamon and that will somehow restore him to the corporeal (either as a fully restored Grimnir or as Gotrek ignited with his godly spark where his warscroll will be even more OP lol or some other thing with Grombrindal perhaps). If not that then the FS/KO will find some ancient magical locus of power and they'll figure out a ritual that will enable them to focus Grimnir's collective essence from their Ur-Gold into a new Grimnir with Gotrek sacrificing himself to accomplish it. Grombrindal's return could be the catalyst for renewed cooperation between Dwarfs! So sickened he would be by the state of Dwardom.
However it is accomplished, Grimnir recovers with the help of Sigmar and Grungni and leads the FS and Dispossessed/KO to give Nagash such a fierce shot to the gut that he vomits up the essence of Valaya. (New Battlebox with new FS/ and OBR models anyone?) (Grimnir God model + new FS priest/hero model + with new OBR models and... MAYBE a new Nagash model?)
Grimnir and company leave to nurture Valaya's fledgling essence into something that can be restored to Godhood which once successful would catalyze a deeper connection between the KO and the rest of dwarfendom. The full restoration of the Dwarfish pantheon would be the catalyst for a joint effort to expand into new territory! Khazukan Kazakit HA!

New range of Miniature Options:
I imagine an entirely new range of minis based on the idea of a united, expeditionary/pioneering, colonization focused group reinvigorated by what I hope will be the Return of Grimnir and Valaya with new models specifically themed around them.

Kharadron Overlords: I do
... keep reading on reddit โกPicked up a copy of Algeria: Anger of the Dispossessed, by Martin Evans, and John Phillips, was wondering about the communityโs thoughts about the authors and the book.
Hoping to learn and understand more about our lovely friends in Algeria.
Thinning out my Ogors to make room for a Cities of Sigmar army focusing on ye olde Dwarves. All are very well painted and based.

4 Ironguts custom bashed from Mournfang and Stonehorn bits for the weapons Yellow Pants $60
1 Rusty Ironblaster $40

Khorne EPIC 40k Armageddon mostly OOP metal Army w Lord of Battles, 8 Daemon Engines, 2 Doomblasters and 2 Cannons of Khorne, unit of 8 original Berzerkers w modern metal Angron, unit of 8 original Chaos Marines, unit of 5 original Juggernauts, modern metal Defiler (unassembled) and 5 metal Dreadnoughts (unassembled), bits to make a Banelord Titan from an old Blood Slaughterer and some other bits for that too. The gold is the GW Retributor Armor primer, so it's easy to reprime any color you want but I figured for all the brass trim it'd be easier to prime in gold. Looking for $200 or best offer.
Will sell all Ogors as a lot for $225 and include free mail! Khorne EPIC Army only sold as a lot. Will entertain reasonable offers. Please reply directly in the post if interested.

This is one of my favorite books of all time and has affected my political thinking before they solidified. Le Guin is a master of contrast she did it in The left Hand of Darkness and she does it masterfully here in her magnum opus, it is the โharderโ of the two to read due to its structure and itโs societal commentary but itโs so worth it. One society is โpoorโ and one is โrichโ and how our protagonist experiences both, it deals with how capitalist societies impose on our lives and how it needs us to keep its wheels spinning and how another society gives purpose without capitalism without even the concept of โownershipโ it helps that these are not aliens these are two human societies. I highly, highly recommend this book and surprised it hasnโt been brought up sooner on this sub. It literally should be the poster child book of this sub itโs just so on the money, itโs beautifully written and itโs a cannon of the sci fi literature genre
โฆfuck. Letโs rewind to March 11th, 2020. Iโve just talked to my boss at my part time job which I love about switching to a full-time role once I finish my masterโs degree in the summer. He responds very positively, and the paperwork is set in motion. Iโve never been a social butterfly by any means, but I was doing pretty well socially at that point. Iโd had a girlfriend with whom I got along fantastically for nine months at that point. Six days later California went on lockdown. Since then, Iโve had to deal with:
โฆI want my fucking life back.
It's one of my favorite novels, and the protagonist Shevek is:
UKLG's life and work is intimately tied to the Pacific Northwest so I don't think this is an accident but I haven't seen any other mention of this.
Has anyone else noticed cheeky little allusions like this in their favorite scifi?
After falling under the enchantment of 'A Wizard of EarthSea' as a child, I went on to devour the rest of le Guin's pieces on her fabled archipelago, picking up on the extensions beyond the original trilogy in high school, then, much later, started to read her science fiction as an adult.
Some years ago I read 'The Word For World Is Forest' & I just finished 'The Dispossessed', but consider one of the weaknesses of the latter as compared to the former, ***overabstraction in referring to, or elaborating? upon, aspects of relativity / temporal-related pseudoscience & the psychology / sociology / politics of, chiefly, "archism" & anarchism.***
In terms of general intelligence, literature, philosophy & science certainly I am no "Ainsetain" - yet no fumbling slouch either. Yet I found the meaning (if actually any) of terminology & passages on the above topics largely unplumbable on a fairly regular basis, despite some attempts at rereading.
I have Googled fairly extensively, & found Cliffnotes-type, partly-paywalled guides & a few essays online, plus a reference to an essay only accessible upon purchasing a particular issue of a journal.
Is there (preferrably one single) book or website that is widely regarded as a or "the" go-to source for analysis & explanation of the abstracter elements of The Dispossessed? Were it not for its elusiveness even to a relatively astute & educated readership, I could recommend it more heartily to others!
Thanks for your time, all!
I have read the left hand of darkness for 4 times this year, every time I was immersed in that ever-winter world and their journey and thoughts. It's magic. As for The dispossessed, I read it twice this year, it's more heavier for me 'cause it's more real to me. Though Shevek is a great physicist, he lives in a world with different system, he is still a human being living in bi-gender world, facing everyday problems. I feel that I cannot just be a bystander and an observer, I feel what he feels.
Let me know what you all think?
