As Hollywood releases a mega-blockbuster featuring big Hollywood names and even bigger automobile names, a look back at the history of Shelbyβs Cobra name and associated IP holdings is worth a look, because it holds many valuable intellectual property law lessons.

I emailed a font author to him know that that I altered one of the fonts he created to aide dyslexic programmers, and if it was okay to share it with others.
This is what was emailed back to me.

Is this right? I realize that distributing a font needs their permission. But just changing the shape of the letters in the font file for my own personal use, is a technically a violation of intellectual property rights? So he could sue me if he wanted to? If so, under which specific law?
Btw, there's no protect on encryption for font files. You can just open them in any font editor.
