A list of puns related to "Cryptococcal Meningitis"
My mother was admitted to the hospital on 11/28 had been having terrible headaches for 3 months, confusion, numbness, slurred speech. Long story short after pushing the hospital to take her seriously after a week and a half of her laying in a bed on the med/surg floor not getting better and no tests being done due to the confusion and lack of cooperation (duh sheβs confused), they found out she has cryptococcal meningitis that has caused her to have mini strokes. To preface this she is 45, overweight, has been a smoker basically her entire life and has a wide array of health problems: COPD, emphysema, asthma, BOOP, early onset dementia, hypertension, water retention, diabetes, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, back pain, cirrhosis of the liver. Her immune system sucks too, really bad, and she was on a high dose of prednisone for her lungs, hence her immune system weakening further. After 10 days they finally move her to ICU, I didnβt want them to intubate her, but they had to to do the spinal tap so it wouldnβt paralyze her. Her pulmonologist had told her she can not have surgery as her body canβt withstand it, so I was very apprehensive about it, but all other options had been exhausted. She is now on day 4 in the ICU (as of 12/14) on the ventilator, which unfortunately has caused acute kidney injury, so she is now on continuous dialysis. They took her off sedation all day yesterday, but she didnβt wake due to her kidneys failing and the lingering sedation medication. They once again took her back off sedation since starting dialysis. Iβm looking for advice, possibly what comes next, when she might wake. The doctors at this hospital are all but optimistic, and Iβm scared as is of course, Iβve been a wreck. She is on amphotericin, flucytosine, vancomycin, and merroepenem to help her fight off the fungal meningitis. If you took the time to read all of this, thank you. Once again, Iβm just looking for some solid advice or guidance or maybe even reassuring words as to what comes next. My main concern right now is the ventilator and her kidneys. If she overcomes that her recovery may truly begin. Thank you from the bottom of a worried daughterβs broken heart

Hey r/medicine. 5th year med student here. I have a HIV +, 24yo patient with a 12 days diagnose of cryptococcal meningitis. He has intracranial hypertension, without hydrocefalus in the CT. I will make a presentation about his case, and I am having problem fiding some data: the incidence of intracranial hypertension, without hydrocefalus. The incidente with hydrocefalus, so I can compare and show them both. Can someone help me out?

My mother died on December 18th 2021, nearly a month ago. She was only 45. Iβm 25 and my brother is 23. I am having a difficult time coping. She has been sick most of her life, crappy immune system, and problem after problem arising every doctor visit. She contracted cryptococcal meningitis and it was too far gone by the time they found it, and she lost her battle with it in the ICU. It caused her brain to swell and her body to shut down. It tore me to pieces seeing her go through that. The cryptococcus caused her to be very very confused her last month of life, so Iβm not sure if she really knew what was going on. She still knew her family and that she was in a lot of pain. I was there for her every day they allowed me to be. Doing everything possible I could to help her between work and school. The last time I actually saw her I wasnβt even allowed in her room, I just stood in the doorway and talked to her for 5 minutes. I didnβt know that was the last time I would ever talk to my mom. The hospital wouldnβt allow me to see her for an entire week. I called constantly checking in on her. She was so confused she couldnβt even use her phone. I keep thinking she was sad wondering why no one was there with her. Iβm angry I had a week of her last month of life taken away from me.. I could have been there. I also feel as if I should have seen the warning signs with her severe headaches starting in August. But with a slew of other health problems, no one thought much of it. She went to the er twice in a week prior to admittance and they brushed it off as a sinus infection and sent her home both times, the last time being hours before she called the ambulance. Until she called the ambulance to come get her and it was too late. She was having mini strokes and seizures and vomiting on herself. It was terrible and tragic. She was my very best friend and Iβm having such a difficult time coping and accepting this. For anyone that read all of this, thank you. Iβm truly at a loss right now, it feels like my life has been put on hold. I am shattered and completely sad and empty.
Iβm 25.. my little brother is 23 and my father is 47. My mom was admitted to the hospital on 11/28 with confusion and terrible headaches. They eventually (with my constant pushing and raising hell) sent her to the icu to get the correct treatment. She was diagnosed with cryptococcal meningitis that is causing my mini strokes. She was in pain and sleeping a lot and confused but prior to her intubation on 12/10 she was fine other than the obvious. She was using the bathroom fine and everything else was normal. Upon intubation the doctors told me absolutely NONE of the associated risks with mechanical ventilation. I told them to only put her under for a few hours to get their tests done and take her right back off. They went against my wishes and left her on. Now her kidneys are failing, theyβre saying it organs are failing and sheβs going into sepsis. Her brain is swelling. All of this only began after ventilation. Sheβs just so young Iβm having a very hard time even thinking about when the decision may come about continuing care. Iβve never dealt with anything like this, Iβm hurting, angry at the hospital because I feel as if this COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED. Iβm at a huge loss. I donβt want her to suffer. I donβt know what to do. Not to mention at this very same hospital she was in the emergency room and misdiagnosed and sent home with a βsinus infectionβ twice within 9 days the last day being the day before her admission. I just need some words of advice or comfort. Thank you.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

Alot of great jokes get posted here! However just because you have a joke, doesn't mean it's a dad joke.
THIS IS NOT ABOUT NSFW, THIS IS ABOUT LONG JOKES, BLONDE JOKES, SEXUAL JOKES, KNOCK KNOCK JOKES, POLITICAL JOKES, ETC BEING POSTED IN A DAD JOKE SUB
Try telling these sexual jokes that get posted here, to your kid and see how your spouse likes it.. if that goes well, Try telling one of your friends kid about your sex life being like Coca cola, first it was normal, than light and now zero , and see if the parents are OK with you telling their kid the "dad joke"
I'm not even referencing the NSFW, I'm saying Dad jokes are corny, and sometimes painful, not sexual

But no, seriously. I understand rule 7 is great to have intelligent discussion, but sometimes it feels like 1 in 10 posts here is someone getting upset about the jokes on this sub. Let the mods deal with it, they regulate the sub.
