Creel Puns

Nancy Thompson, the protagonist in Nightmare On Elm Street, is believed to be the namesake of Nancy Wheeler. With Robert Englund playing Victor Creel, I think Nancy’s going to have a strong role in the whole Creel story. Probably as a reporter/investigator.

This is my first time posting here and English is not my first language so I apologize beforehand for any typos or spelling errors.

I have been poring over comments and theories on this sub and slowly putting together a theory on the how and why of Vecna, Peter, the lab massacre, Brenner, and Eleven.

I have discussed these ideas before in my comments so apologies for repeating a few of my ideas here – anyway I’m really curious to read more about all your theories and this post is primarily to promote further discussions on the subject.

As for the theory itself, here it goes:

What we know is that in the 50s an undetermined UD-related episode occurred at the Creel House. I am thinking that on the night Creel murdered his family it was the first time the gate to the UD was opened. Brenner and his crew over at Hawkins lab must have managed their biggest breakthrough: Making contact with an alternate dimension.

Just like many years later this led into the Demogorgon’ escape, this first “contact” led into Vecna getting out. Now, what is Vecna, really? From the mods we know that it will be a new monster. Since the Mind Flayer is the series’ big bad I think it’s safe to assume that Vecna is part of the collective hive mind. Why the clocks? I have reasons to believe that Peter was tested using clocks, and specific ticking combinations. He is known to possess mind-manipulation powers and he must have broken through the fabric of reality and mentally reached the UD. So, the first ever gate was opened in Peter’s mind. From there, Vecna escaped.

In the UD, Vecna happened to live within the clock inside the Creel house. This is why it’s called Vecna’s Lair – the monster always dwelled there. But now that Peter bridged both realities Vecna was able to also latch itself on to the clocks in the Creel house in our world. From there, Vecna had its fun with Creel – it tormented his mind, showing him flashes of the UD – it must have shown him demogorgons or demodogs lurching at him – but instead of UD monsters, it was Creel’s family who was surrounding him – so in his confusion he killed his family thinking they were UD monsters.

He must have strangled them, or knifed them – I believe the portion of the third teaser where Creel is staring down at his kids sprawled on the floor is one of Vecna’s visions – it must be starting to show Creel what would eventually happen.

We know that the gang in Hawkins is investigating the Creel incident but why? What could have happened that prompted them to start investigating in the first place?

Well I strongly believe that this has something to do with the newly announced character that will be played by Grace Van Dien known as Chrissy. From her character profile, she is the head cheerleader and the most popular girl in Hawkins High but she also has a dark secret.

In an audition tape featuring another actress, it showed her in what seemed to be in a dressing/locker room with before she curls up in the corner screaming to something, telling it to go away.

I have a hunch that whatever entity she was telling to go away might have been the same one who manipulated Victor Creel to slaughter his entire family because in the clip showing the news articles that we got before the third teaser, it shows an article with the headline with someones name crossed out (most likely Victor Creel) claiming that a vengeful spirit killed his family.

So what I think will happen is that something big will happen involving Chrissy, maybe whatever happens will in many ways be similar to what happened in 1959, which will prompt the gang to investigate the Creel incident so that they can get some insight into whatever ever is happening now.

As for the unknown entity doing this stuff, I'm not sure if it's the Mind Fleyer or some other new enemy but whatever it is, it's way more older and more bloodthirsty than anything the gang has ever faced.

We only know three big things about Victor Creel: he’s in Pennhurst for a gruesome murder committed in the 1950’s, he’s blind after gouging his eyes out and - perhaps most notably - is a recurring character played by horror legend, Robert Englund, aka Freddy Krueger. That leaves a lot of room for mystery and therefore discussion. I’ve collected some of the most popular theories about Creel below. Which one do you think has teeth(if any do at all)?

So obviously the popular theory is that Mr.Creel murdered his family, whether by his own choice or with the influence of the mind flayer or the Demogorgon, but what if something happened with the kids?

Stranger things very much has the theme of children and teens being special and very easily coming into contact with the upside down and the creatures in it, so what if Mr.Creel did kill his family, but because he thought his kids were dangerous because they're the ones causing all the weird stuff in the house/they're the ones being manipulated by something in the upside down to do something?

What gets me most is the son specifically though, in the trailer we see him lightly react to the lights flickering, but it kinda looks like he's looking at his dad first to see his reaction. But the part that gets me the most is the dinner scene, everyone gets a close up except the son, he's even specifically blocked out by the mom while they're all smiling happily at each other, and he barely reacts when the camera pulls away.

And in the picture of the family in the newspaper clipping, the son is the only one not smiling. I think there's something super weird with the son in particular. I definitely think these kids had a bigger role in what happened to their family than we're getting to see now. What do you guys think?

I finally got some time today to look at the tease closely and pulled the frames to check out some details.. I think worth a look and if anyone has a sharp eye and can better decipher the text please help.. I did not have the highest res source unfortunately.. First thing to note at the start here is it seems some things that are redacted in some shots are not in others.. That gives away that they did this for this mini-tease not because it is this way “in real life Hawkins”…

I had been planning to look into the long case (grandfather) clock seen in the Creel house.. Finally got around to it and then went down a rabbit hole with, what I think, are interesting results. I am feeling more confident than ever that the Creels relate to Hopper (despite the Ives “rose” comment from a few weeks ago.. Ives are still a close second). This question that has gnawed at me, and other fans, about Hopper’s past and any connection to the lab, and now the Creels, I think has some connective tissue finally… The clue that put it over the top for me was, ironically, Sherlock Holmes. It all comes down to a curse.

First, the clock. Since the very first announcement of ST4 we had a clock in the mix- the clock in the tree. It makes me think about the tree portal we saw in S1 with Nancy and Johnathan. (The blood smear on the clock face can be seen as general danger, or was hinting to what seems will be a massacre at the lab per the “Are You Listening?” 002 teaser.)

The clock chimes, I think is marking an “anniversary”. The clock in the lab suggests that a 3:00 event (again, massacre?), and the tree clock a 12:00 event are significant and the chimes must be related.

A sidebar- Creel’s daughter is named Alice. She finds a dead rabbit*.*** Alice in Wonderland I think, where Alice follows a rabbit down the hole- the rabbit is said to be running late for an event, obsessively checking the time.

The clock itself I found is from the 1760s-1780s. The face/ mechanism is English by Thomas Grignion. The case could be English and/ or American- the foot and column seems Grignion as well, but the bonnet/ hood may be American like a John Townsend. It is modified to have a glass window to show the pendulum and weights… creative liberty I assume. The historical significance is curious.. it could go back some time to even pre-American Revolution but certainly to Civil War or Reconstruction times.
