I feel a bit of a dummkopf as I'm stumped dealing with block RAM. I've been able to synthesize a few simple CPUs. Up to now, my memory modules look like:

This doesn't synthesize to block RAM, e.g. yosys says Mapping to bram type $__ECP5_DP16KD failed. So, I can change this to a clocked output:

  always @(posedge i_clk) begin
    if (wr_stb)
      mem[address] <= data;
    result <= mem[address];
  end

which does synthesize: Mapping to bram type $__ECP5_DP16KD.

Now the dummkopf part: I know the result is going to arrive a tick later with this version, but how do I deal with this delay? Example: I'm using a ROM to hold CPU microinstructions. Now the control lines coming out from the ROM are delayed and I can't see what to do about it. The CPU isn't pipelined: I was expecting the control lines to arrive as soon as I need them.

I'm not looking for significant help here: short clues and pointers to on-line resources would be wonderful. On the other hand, I have quickly built a really primitive microsequenced CPU with a decode ROM as above. If someone has a Patreon and wouldn't mind putting in a few hours to explain the needed changes to me, I'd be happy to reimburse.

I have an mp3 file that I want to upload to YouTube. YouTube of course doesn't allow straight-up audio uploads, only video submissions. So I want to use ffmpeg to convert the mp3 to mp4, adding an image as the video track.
(A single image for an unchanging static picture throughout the video is fine. I know that it's possible to make a video with timed slides from multiple images, but I don't need anything fancy like that.)
I actually used

ffmpeg -i h6_logo_02.gif -i bloggers.mp3 -acodec copy bloggers.mp4

and the resulting mp4 plays fine in vlc, but YouTube chokes on that file, returning an error message of

> Failed (unable to convert video file)

after I upload it.

Has anyone done anything like this before?
How can I create a movie that YouTube will accept?
I'd be MUCH obliged for any pointers.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.

I said "hey look, an escaPEA"

No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!

This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.

If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.

I was going to take notes as I read and post on the whole thing, but it was getting awfully long, so this is on the first four chapters. I was trying to read it as if I were new to the story, and it just a new science fiction/fantasy story in a new setting.

Chapter 1 Reincarnation

Summary: Worldbuilding and character expectations, both of our protaganist and everyone else. Hints that not everyone agreed with the offical story back then. Names planted for later. Why is Jiang Cheng described as 'little'? Event thirteen years prior probably going to be important since that is when our protaganist died.

Chapter 2The intractable

He's back.

Proud, but also kind, and as he figures out what the wish he needs to grant is says 'you've got the wrong person'. Wants to gaze in reverence on the face of the man who brought him back. Intelligent and quick. He comes off as someone who doesn't kill lightly, and doesn't like being forced into this situation.

The bully swiped all 'his' cultivation stuff. The bully is later found dead in a corridor - indoors?

“Right after subduing the walking corpses, we were rushing to the east courtyard, and the dead body was lying there in the corridor.” To me 'corridor' signals an indoors passage. Which indicates the arm was indoors.

- with a spirit lure flag on him and the arm having drained him. Could the arm have been in the stuff Mo Z swiped from Mo Xuanyu? and Xuanyu was competent enough to keep it under control until his bully of a cousin swiped his stuff, meddled with it, and threw in the spirit lure flag into the mix? No one in the text seems to think this is a possibility, but given the attention to the bully's misdeeds and reading this as a mystery, that authorial attention is often a cluebat that this happening is important.

General impressions of protaganist are that he's a decent guy, doesn't want the juniors to wind up dead, but is trying to help indirectly and quietly rather than be obvious and have attention drawn to what he is doing. After all, his last living memory was of everyone hunting him down and a very bad death. He does appear to have some knowledge of what he was doing after his demise and certainly doesn't wake up as if he just experienced dying. Capable of thinking fast enough to convey information without giving away his deep knowledge of the situation. Interesting that the spirits in the fierce corpses are terrified of him. Also interesting is how easy he finds
