A list of puns related to "Carrying Yoke"
I just got a barely used Old Town Guide 158 for a good deal. Iβm learning how to carry and maneuver the thing, and Iβm wondering if when I put it up on my shoulders and carry it on the yoke, should it be balanced there? Like if I took my hands off it should it not tip forward or back? Right now it tips backwards pretty severely and itβs kind of hard to keep it level and carry it around. Any advice?
I am looking at buying a 16β old town guide on Facebook but itβs missing a yoke. I can very easily make a replacement one but should I be worried that it has lost any structural integrity because itβs been used without a yoke?
Now I thought of this today on a whim so pardon me if they exist already. :D Saw some wood block Asian art images today and remembered they exist.
I know there aren't many uses for the (Wooden/Bark?) Baskets past an early Wilderness/no civilization build especially as they encumber each hand/arm so I was thinking of designing a Yoke system to carry 2-4 baskets.
Item would be attached to torso (and) arms and would require the cumulative of 2-4 baskets to build with other ingredients but obvious heavy encumbrance for solids and weight. Could be mounted alongside a Backpack with the current layering system as well. Craft ingredients can be tailored to suit for Withered Plants and Sticks etc.
I'm aware of the Bindle as an item but this one would use both arms/hands.
As for the Water Pole, same Yoke system but uses 2-4x Jerrycans, Gallon Jug etc but can only do liquids. I know the Jerrypack already exists with a fairly similar function but anyone think it can be an idea for Wilderness games?
I'm not good at coding, hence just tossing the idea out there hoping these sort of things don't exist yet. Any input?
I owned a 2019 Tesla Model 3 Performance for roughly two years and 15,000 miles. I'm going to distill my key learnings and experiences here, in an attempt to educate others on EVs and reach some form of closure. My ownership could best be summed-up as a love/hate relationship, ending with crazy used car values offering me the out I'd been quietly seeking. Clearly, I decided EVs aren't for me - at least, not yet. I'm not a "paid big oil shill" or someone who's trying to short the stock, as I'm sure some of the Tesla nuts will claim. I'm just a car enthusiast (disclaimer: not an engineer) standing at the same crossroads as the rest of you, wondering what sounds future children will make long after (if?) our beloved bureaucrats outlaw the ICE.
Everything I'm writing here is based on my own unique tastes and preferences. How the pros and cons balance out at the end is entirely up to you. And that's fine. Choice is great. Note that this post centers on Battery EVs (BEVs) at the time of this writing, which comprise the vast majority of EVs on the road today.
And yeah. This got way longer than I anticipated. But it was cathartic for me and I hope it's at least somewhat useful to someone out there.
I'll start with what ultimately sold me on the car - Immense, instant power. The war in the "pure acceleration" category is pretty much over - just take a look at Jason Cammisa's video with the Model S Plaid vs. the BMW M5 CS and Cadillac Crazy. They're not even on the same planet. Not only is the acceleration brutal, but it's consistent (everything else held constant - more on that later). Look up any number of 0 - 60 videos on YouTube, and you'll notice that the times are all remarkably close, especially if there are multiple runs in the same video.
And how could they not be? Software and traction control are fundamental to EV operation. Adjustments take mere milliseconds. The amount of "stuff" involved between your right foot and the tires is a joke compared to an ICE car. And it's basically idiot-proof - even with the Track Mode dialed to 100% hoon in my TM3P, it was nearly impossible to make a mistake. You just put your foot down and the car takes care of the rest, with literally zero drama.
And all of this performance comes with no mechanical sympathy. I never felt an ounce of it, flogging my Model 3 - there's really nothing to "break" mechanically in the way of the drivetrain. The ent

Communal toilets they are called today, I think. As a child I thought toilets inside a home signified wealth, because most of the people in the small rural town I lived in, didnβt have toilets inside.
Worse yet, the people poorer than us didnβt use toilets. They went to defecate outside in the open.
It was quite a culture shock to many of my city-dweller friends when I described how the rural people defecated as a daily routine. The horror in their eyes betrayed the disconnect they had from the ground realities of rural India. I remember living in the hostel and hearing my friends complain about how dirty the toilets were because a whole wing of the hostel used 8-10 toilets and I remember thinking that was a good ratio of people to toilets, and frankly, I did not feel that they were dirty, but that was me because I had lived through 12 years of using public latrines and the hostel toilets seemed posh in retrospect.
I also remember the first time we built a toilet inside our house. I distinctly remember feeling that we had finally arrived in this world, that we were one of the privileged now, even rich. The round spigot instead of the square bar of metal over the tap and water, as much as I could use to flush! I remember feeling like a king. I remember cleaning my toilet to keep it spick and span, I felt proud and very possessive.
Looking back now, I see how the grave the problem was for people poorer than me. Now that I am acclimatized to toilet seats and useless first world arguments about how to leave the toilet seat open, I am still reminded about how the women in my small town went about their toilet business and the juxtaposition is jarring to say the least.
There was a plot of land owned by a rich urban person who spent all his time in a gulf country. The plot was surrounded by a compound wall, a tall and sturdy one. Because of no maintenance, the plot was full of bushes and a few trees. Women used to go here for their toilet business. All the surrounding land was used by men and children.
Women would usually wake up as early as 4 AM so as to avoid crowds. They used to carry a mug of water to wash after and the younger ones would carry a small bucket. I remember women complaining to my mother how they wished they could carry a small

While I generally have positive things to say about my Tesla experience, my Tesla hasnβt exactly been scratching my itches as a car enthusiast. So I am currently at a bit of a crossroads, buy another Tesla and get an affordable-ish sports car. Or combine the funds into one nicer vehicle.
The problem with the one nicer vehicle is the fact that it does need to be EV. While I am sure a lot of great EV vehicles will burst onto the scene in the next three years, thereβs really only one car on the market currently that feels like it might be an upgrade from my Tesla while also satiating my enthusiast desires and that is the Porsche Taycan.
Now Iβll be honest in saying that I am by no means a Porsche fan. I drove a 997 911 Turbo as well as a 718 Cayman base and I walked away from both cars feeling like they were sports cars on Xanax. They just werenβt exciting for me.
Likewise, I am by no means a Tesla fanboy. I think they have EV offerings that make a lot of sense, but as a car enthusiast I do long for something that feels a bit more special.
Unfortunately when reading comparisons between Teslaβs and Taycanβs they pretty quickly devolved into descriptions that felt too simple to me. βIf you want a well built car with a great driving experience get the Taycanβ βIf you want a good charging network, like technology, and need lots of range get a Teslaβ While I knew both of those general sentiments to be inherently true, I felt like they were leaving out a lot of details and that the folks righting these statements were inherently pro Tesla or pro Taycan making it hard to find what felt like an unbiased opinion.
Fortunately I found myself on vacation and in a position to rent a Porsche Taycan Turbo from Turo so I jumped on the opportunity to see whether it would be more compelling than another Tesla and a dedicated sports car. Here are my thoughts below:
While I will generally be comparing this car against my Model 3, I have driven the following vehicles and will be drawing from those experiences as well. C5 Corvette, C7 Grand Sport, C8 Z51, Lotus Elise, Lotus Evora N/A, Alfa Romeo 4C, Porsche 997 911 Turbo, Porsche 718 Cayman, Ford Focus RS, Audi TTRS, Audi R8 V8.
I also find the naming convention for various Porsche features to be a little confusing, so my apologies if I am not describing features using the official Porsche names.

She grinned, her snoot waving happily.
βTank!β a group of people clad in grubby coveralls cheered as she, with a little difficulty, came to a stop.
βPthoo!β she snorted, as she shrugged out of the makeshift harness and rolled her shoulders.
She grinned again.
βI fucking love this thing!β she said as she gave the cart a little tap with one of her hind legs. βI got everything!β
βAwesome!β an overly thin grey-haired man enthused as he grabbed a length of stout electrical cable.

βEasy money!β Honx enthused as she connected her cables to the one laid by the olive-skinned woman, carefully following marks spray-painted on the old expanse of asphalt.

She flipped open the top of the bottle and steam curled out. She took a sip as she looked out over the huge parking lot in front of an old gigantic abandoned structure.
She took a sip.
βWhere the Hell are we and what are they going to do with this many mega-watts out here in the wastes?β a young man said as he connected his cable to Honxβs and started laying it out along the dashed white line.

She turned towards the large reactor.

2 Toxic and Unbreaking Heralds of Death - 3 A Shroud of Hell

I looked at the monitor, the two ships limping away into the void after being given the smallest of samples of Hikor imperial power. Whoever they were, their breach deep into Hikor space was laughable. It was arrogance incarnate, no one could take on the Hikor Empire, no matter how far one can go without being seen. We rule the galaxy for a reason.
I sent one broadcast to the fleeing ships. "We allow you to live so you may carry this message, vermin. You sneak around our space, our worlds, this is war. You have made your folly, now we will reap destruction. If you are wise, you will stay where you came from. If you are not, your ships will be reduced to scrap and your crew dead like what the rest of your navy will become."
A light tap of a claw against the 'end' button wrapped up the message and sent it. I thought we had full dominion over the galaxy, so the unknown is unexpected. Might be some other rebellious race trying to pull against our yoke, something for the lawbearers to deal with.

The mood of the meeting of the 2nd fleet's leadership was of grim anticipation. "This Hikor Empire fired upon exploratory task force 7 and sent a message, a declaration of war. In about two minutes, parliament will give their answer."
Admiral Gibbs knew what the answer was going to be. Most of the prominent MPs were excessively prideful and that carried over to national pride. To not answer a declaration of war? Impossible with them. They could simply not bother, the Hikor couldn't touch them. They were over in galaxy M104, far beyond their own reach.
The phone rang and the room fell silent. Admiral Gibbs picked it up, "hello prime minister, are deliberations over? Yes sir... Yes sir, it will be done." The admiral stood up and looked over all the captains assembled before him.
He exhaled, a mind focused on the terrible fury the Royal Navy has never unleashed before now. "The British Empire is at war once again. Tomorrow, we set course to the Hikor Empire. Humanity's first interstellar war rests upon us, let us make a good showing. It would be a damn shame should the extragalactic bit of the details be smeared by defeat."

For anyone with questions about the refreshed Model S (before ordering).
TL,DR: I love the yoke. I love no stalks / turn signals. Much quieter cabin. Amazing sound system.
Since Tesla does not have test-drives available for the Model S (at least in my area), I thought I would share info/thoughts for anyone considering a purchase, but nervous to spend 100k+ without a test drive. As you will note, Iβm just an average driver trying to help inform potential S drivers! Before ordering, I was only able to speak with one owner of a refreshed Model S and it was extremely helpful. If any of you are considering a refreshed S, I hope you find this helpful (feel free to post any questions).
Prior to taking delivery of my 2022 S Plaid, I drove a 2018 S P100D.
Yoke:
I was really concerned about driving with a yoke, especially since I could not test drive first. I love the yoke and I prefer it over a regular steering wheel. It took less than 1 day to get used to hand position and turns. The driver display above the yoke is tremendous- you have a full, unobstructed view of the driving visualization.
The yoke is thicker than a steering wheel on the sides and flatter on the bottom. It is sturdy! You are able to make the same βone-handedβ turns as with a steering wheel (the kind where you press on the wheel with one hand as you make a full rotation or two all the way around).
Iβve taken one road trip with Autopilot engaged (7 hours each way). When driving with hands at 9 and 3, I felt more arm fatigue, but most of the trip was spent with one hand resting on the bottom of the yoke. I did not need to βjiggleβ the wheel as far to keep AP engaged. It almost feels like Tesla engineered the yoke to sense your hand on it without the need to βturnβ it ΒΌ inch so it knows you are still awake. It also feels easier to disengage AP by steering through the auto-steer function.
With the yoke, half the time you are steering, the other half of the time you are hanging on!
My contact with a refreshed S promised I would like the yoke. I figured he had spent over 100k on a car and was obligated to like it, but he was right, it is better!
Stalks:
Shifter: Auto-shifter works very well and I keep it activated. I rarely swipe on the screen to shift- typically if I reverse out of a parking space and shifting to βdriveβ. The auto-shift feature requires you to 1) fasten your seatbelt and then 2) tap the break (the display prompts you what to do and whether the

In 1962, Italy is in a desperate shape. Despite having achieved everything it could desire, a unified country, an empire and a sphere on itβs own, after ww2, the Empire has a in 1962 a devastated economy, a stretched thin army and unsatisfied allies desiring spoiling the fascist dictatorship of her hardly gained territories. Furthermore, the succession of Mussoliniβs son in law, Galeazzo Ciano, as Duce didnβt help to alleviate the countryβs problems. Here are the Italian sections of each dev diary.
βThere is much on the Duce's agenda. The far reaches of the Empire hold great opportunities, some of them yet untapped; economic planning and expansion of the state owned civilian air company should help tie together the vast territories under Italian lordship. The lifeblood of the regime, oil, will continue to flow, while promotion of fascist industrial organization and Italian agriculture shall continue to carry forward the organic development of the Italian economy. As for foreign policy, Italy's alliance with Japan and the other Triumvirate countries will be reaffirmed as a safeguard against German aggression. Finally, in internal politics, safeguarding the Duce's regime against all threats is of paramount importance: the royal court and the fascist gerarchia should be kept under close watch, while also making sure that those who are personally loyal to Ciano and to Ciano alone maintain their prominent positions in the party and the government. As the OVRA, the fascist secret police, works tirelessly to protect the peace and order that fascism brought, the great yearly Littoriali will be organized once more, to showcase to the world all the achievements of the Italian regime. Kazlor sat in stunned silence as Henryβs proclamation of forgiveness seemed to ring in the air. Henry had finished his statement by deliberately looking into the camera β which had suddenly moved to a close-up of his face β so that it seemed that the man stared directly at whomever sat in front of each screen.
The Duke felt a silent tear run down his face as the words which had crawled across his screen played themselves over and over in his mind. βYes, Duke Kazlor, even you.β Kazlor wanted to wipe that tear away, but could not bring himself to do it. It took all of his control to keep from breaking down into sobs. Henry discussed the matter a few times, and he spoke of how he knew that I had been instrumental in stopping the attempt at kenfistrationβ¦ but he never actually said these words. He crossed his arms on his chest to put his hands on theirs, squeezed slightly, and took a shuddering breath. A sob floated up from somewhere a little below him, another from somewhere else.
Henry let the silence, punctuated only by the occasional soft sob, hang in the air for several moments. He then leaned forward, put both hands on his console, let fury and contempt show on his face, and spoke with gravel in his voice. βWe do not, however, forgive them.β He gestured contemptuously towards Jalat. βWe know who was responsible for what was done to us. When Jesus looked upon all the people who were burdened and weary facing sins, he said "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." (Matthew 11:28). Jesus completed the Laws from Moses by allowing his followers to walk with him in life. The Laws were like Sun rays shedding light beams into a dark room so that we can see the dust floating in the air. The dust is like our sinful nature. Even if the room is dark, the dust still exists, and we breathe and live in dust. As soon as we are conscious about our sins, we try very hard but cannot overcome the sinful nature by ourselves; therefore we need Jesus to carry the same yoke with us. Carrying the yoke with Jesus does not mean we can just relax and let Jesus carry the load by himself. It is a life-long journey to deny ourselves, give up our old-self and follow Jesus with a gentle and humble heart. The process is a personal relationship building process with Jesus and God. Spreading the gospel is a means to an end. It is a mission for us to tell the Good News to everyone so that everyone can build a personal relationship with God because this is the only way to be saved.
GP basically asks all members to give up living and only focus on spreading the Gospel. The members are more weary and burdened by not only their sins, but also the workload dumped on them. The new laws from GP are like chains and locks to make their life more miserable because these new laws are not even trying to reveal the sins like sunbeams. The new GP laws are training members to be 100% loyal and obedient. For example, "thou shall install a software on your PC to monitor your browser activities". If a Jesus follower cannot monitor his/her own web browsing habit, but needs a software to force him/her not to visit a porn site, is he/she a true Jesus follower? In a GP Sunday Worship we witnessed in Berkley, everyone is taking notes, they don't do that in classrooms or at work. There is nothing wrong with writing down some key inspiring notes, but copying everything? I have only seen everyone taking notes when a communist leader speaks, GP is the 2nd place. Are GP's laws helping or destroying its members? The members will not be able to learn how to deny himself/herself and follow Jesus if they can only follow the laws. Remember Pharisees?

During the recent Direct Line, when I was asked about Russian-Ukrainian relations, I said that Russians and Ukrainians were one people β a single whole. These words were not driven by some short-term considerations or prompted by the current political context. It is what I have said on numerous occasions and what I firmly believe. I therefore feel it necessary to explain my position in detail and share my assessments of today's situation.
First of all, I would like to emphasize that the wall that has emerged in recent years between Russia and Ukraine, between the parts of what is essentially the same historical and spiritual space, to my mind is our great common misfortune and tragedy. These are, first and foremost, the consequences of our own mistakes made at different periods of time. But these are also the result of deliberate efforts by those forces that have always sought to undermine our unity. The formula they apply has been known from time immemorial β divide and rule. There is nothing new here. Hence the attempts to play on the βnational questionβ and sow discord among people, the overarching goal being to divide and then to pit the parts of a single people against one another.
To have a better understanding of the present and look into the future, we need to turn to history. Certainly, it is impossible to cover in this article all the developments that have taken place over more than a thousand years. But I will focus on the key, pivotal moments that are important for us to remember, both in Russia and Ukraine.
Russians, Ukrainians, and Belarusians are all descendants of Ancient Rus, which was the largest state in Europe. Slavic and other tribes across the vast territory β from Ladoga, Novgorod, and Pskov to Kiev and Chernigov β were bound together by one language (which we now refer to as Old Russian), economic ties, the rule of the princes of the Rurik dynasty, and β after the baptism of Rus β the Orthodox faith. The spiritual choice made by St. Vladimir, who was both Prince of Novgorod and Grand Prince of Kiev, still largely determines our affinity today.
The throne of Kiev held a dominant position in Ancient Rus. This had been the custom since the late 9th century. The Tale of Bygone Years captured for posterity the words of Oleg the Prophet about Kiev, βLet it be the mother of all Russian cities.β
Later, like other European states of that time, Ancient Rus faced a decline of central rule and fragmentation. At the same time, both the nob

> βAeruh, I command the air. Lay leaden on your tongue. Selitos, I name you. May all your powers fail you but your sight.β
It's composed of the combined letters "ae" and "ruh", both of which have interesting stories to tell us.
"ae" also known as the character "Ash (tree)", possible a connection to "Master Ash", which I'll take for a given is Cinder. A member of the Seven, who we disappear into thin air (aeruh).
> But as their feet came down they slowed, and gently, as if they were made of sand with wind blowing across them, they faded away.
While this doesn't lead to some mind blowing (or numbing) idea like Abenthy is a chandrian (he isn't), I think these little dives into names are things Pat delights in doing and will reward us for following him down the rabbit hole. So lets go a bit further. Historically the characters "a" and "e" were derived from "Beast/oxen" and "man" respectively, and you might consider this combination description in the KKC a reference to Haliax being "yoked" or "hamed" to a beast:
> β... being βyoked to shadow,β whatever that means,β I heard my father say as the wind died down.
> Alaxel bears the shadowβs hame.
A yoke often referring to a way to bind two beast together. This revelation seems to only strengthen the relationship between Denna's Patron and the Seven. But it also adds a richness to the story that hopefully will inspire you to look deeper into the names.
Returning to "Ruh" I imagine this relates to both the modern day "Edema Ruh" and the ancient "Ruach". The two words "Edema Ruh" like telling us of the split between the Ruach. With some now settled in Ademre (close to Edema) and others travel around as singers. I suspect the split came over how to best fight the seven. Those of Ademre choose to use silence and hand talk to plan, while those of the Traveling foot thought it best to always keep on the move.
Both are valid strategies and they stand more to gain by standing together then alone. However they are litterly pushed to opposite corners of the map. With Adremre in the far Northeast and YLL in the southweset (i suspect the Ruachs and Singers homeland). And who or what has been pushing them apart? The Aturan Empire. Who both antagonized the Adem

βI am probably a type Oβ said the rabbit.
Hey folks! This past weekend I competed in my first strongman meet. This is also the first long form reddit post I've written but I'm pretty jazzed about the competition. All in all it went really well-- training was fun, I made the podium, and hit some PRs along the way. Let's get into it.
I've been lifting on and off for about 9 years and suffered greatly from paralysis by analysis for most of that time. For a while (and even now) I also tried to avoid: working hard; and gaining weight. Two things that are, objectively, pretty essential to making progress. This has gotten better since I took on olympic weightlifting as my primary focus a few years back, and even moreso in the last year or two from a mindset shift (all hail the Bugez).
General stats and lifts (hope you're ready for a dirty trailer park marriage between metric and imperial):
Height | 5'9" |
---|---|
Weight | 175 lbs |
Squat | 170 kg / 374 lbs |
Deadlift | 170 kg / 374 lbs (probably inaccurate) |
Snatch | 100 kg |
C&J | 125 kg |
The events were laid out as follows:
The majority of my training continued to revolve around olympic weightlifting, as that is still my primary sport. On top of that I incorporated some event-specific training after my weightlifting workouts since I had access to the specific events and weights that I'd see the day of the competition. I essentially split it up as follows:
Day 1
Log training. I followed vanilla 5/3/1 here since the submaximal leadup sets would help dial in my log technique, and the AMRAP set would be more event specific. I actually performed all of my AMRAPs with a 60 sec time limit to further mimic meet day. I was able to hit 180 for 7 in training.
Day 2
Overhead press. I followed inverted juggernaut here for press and deadlift after a recommendation in a daily thread a while back. This went fairly well but I shoulder injury scare in one of the later weeks. Ended up bouncing back pretty quickly but pulled back on the pressing since I already had a fair bit of overhead work in my weightlifting program.
Day 3
Deadlift. Followed inverted juggernaut as stated above. Spent the first half of the program training on an olympic bar since I felt I had to first dia

My current back squat is 325#. I can walk a 405# yoke about 50 feet. After the walk, even 300# feels light.
