Daryl Morey joined the Philadelphia 76ers pregame show on NBC Sports Philadelphia and gave an update on where things stand with Ben Simmons. Morey mentioned Simmons is dealing with both back soreness and personal things off the court. The Sixers President of Basketball Operations said the team takes both issues seriously.
Simmons recently returned to Philadelphia after a lengthy holdout. His initial days back with the team were tumultuous, as Doc Rivers kicked him out of his first full practice with the team. Simmons was suspended for the home opener, and then refused to do an individual workout when the rest of the team had an off day.
Simmons then spoke with his teammates and coaches and explained his not in the right space to fully return. Simmons was open that he's not mentally ready to play basketball at this time. Multiple teammates then came out in support of Simmons over the following days.
In recent days, the 76ers have stopped fining Simmons for sitting out. Morey said the team is working with Simmons, as opposed to the previous acrimonious days. Morey said, "And, you know, he spoke to his teammates, you know, things seem to be moving very much in a positive direction. Weβre gonna provide all the resources, get Ben what he needs and get him out there as soon as we can."

I don't know why so many litigants lack the insight to know that coming off like an arrogant pedantic cock in front of the judge will affect the factual findings made later...I mean, even if you're a gigantic arse hole, at least pretend to be nice in Court?
Gov. Kim Reynolds told Fox News she is returning $95 million in COVID relief funds to President Joe Bidenβs administration meant for classroom surveillance testing.
βI think he thinks COVID just started. Weβve been in the classroom, hereβs your $95 million back,β Reynolds said during a roundtable last night.
A report on the CBS Evening News tonight included footage of the governor of Utah, Spencer Cox, asking people to pray for rain. My (38m) mother (80f) guffawed in a manner I found flippant and a bit hostile. I insisted that the plea for rain prayers reasonable enough for a few go-rounds until she realized I was serious and it wasn't worth litigating.
My mom has been an avowed atheist since before I was born, probably her whole adult life. I'm an adult convert to Roman Catholicism. She's often (but far from always; it's really complicated sometimes) bitter about religion and the religious, where I'm mostly quietly dealing wth little crises of faith (nothing at all out of the ordinary, afaict). There's mercifully much less tension between me and my parents over my religious affiliation and proclivities than there was until a few years ago, and they've always been quite accommodating when I wanted to go to Mass, in my mom's case sometimes to extents that made me uncomfortable, which was on me, not her.
Prayer for providential weather is something I consider futile at the very worst. The reason I don't pray for good weather is that I'm too weakwilled and distractible to pray enough at all. Like so much prayer, The Onion hit it on the head with just a headline: "God answers sick little boy's prayer; 'No,' says God." Reading a line like that doesn't make me cynical, just a bit sad. I lose hope and serenity where I should pursue and gain them. Same story as ever.
My own spiritual beliefs are wider and more syncretic than the Catholic Church's core teachings. They're even more so now, after a painful breakup with a woman who's cut off day-to-day contact with me and explained her need for space and time vaguely enough to make me worry. Answering Spencer Cox's call for rain prayers would be an improvement over the vortex I've been circling after the breakup, or any number of other emotional and spiritual vortices I'm too weak to flee.
Utah is obviously in a bad spot this summer due to the ongoing drought. I live in California and have spent a lot of time elsewhere in the American West, so I'm keenly aware of how alarmingly dry most of the region is becoming this year. In no way am I interested in having Utah pray its way out of drought and do nothing else. For example, I strongly favor the construction of a transcontinental aqueduct system to balance hydrological disparities across the Continental Divide. But I think of these efforts as complementary, not a c

Hi everyone,
I've been working with a client for 5+ years, building and maintaining their websites and systems.
As part of this, I took the decision early on to use my own CMS (content management system). I always said (though never signed anything to this effect) that, after my departure, he could continue to use my system.
He has now reneged on a number of financial promises on his side, which were also never committed to paper. Because of this, I am minded to withdraw the offer to continue to use my system after my departure.
My question is, can I enforce this? He will say I gave my word that he could use it, but he has broken his word regarding some financial commitments to me, in light of the acrimonious parting following a recent falling-out.
The system is deeply embedded in their websites and processes. He cannot realistically stop using my system - at least not without many months of development to detatch and then replace it - so I wonder whether I should just charge him a monthly licence fee, instead. But again, nothing covering this was ever put on paper.
Basically, what are my options? Can I do anything, or do I just have to suck it up that I said he could use the system, and it was my decision originally to use it in the first place (when I could have used an off-the-shelf, third-part system.)
I greatly appreciate any thoughts.
