A list of puns related to "Acetylsalicylic Acid"
EDIT 17/10/21: stopped experiment after 4 days. I decided to start with Wellbutrin (Elontril in Spain)
*************************************************************
TLDR: schizophrenic suffering anhedonia will try for 6 weeks 1000mg aspirin a day based on inflammatory theories
Background
**************************************************************
Male, 32 years old, from spain(caucasian), schizophrenia onset with positive symptoms 10 years ago but only suffering negative symptoms and cognitive since then.
Mainly I suffer anhedonia, apathy. Maybe I focus worse than before the illness, but I think is due lack of pleasure in a lot of areas in my life.
I get phisiologycal pleasure from food, sex... but pleasures like enjoy a film, be with your girlfriend, be with your family, your friends, playing videogames, music... that bored me 85% of the time.
I specially get difficulties in two areas of my life: working and my girlfriend. I can even say I don't feel love when I am pretty anhedonic so my girlfriend gets really concerned about my loose of emotional interest and my lack of desire of living.

Based in a few articles, I reccomend first one:

Why this trial?
A bit desperate with negative symptoms. Usually Wellbutrin works well with avolition, but lately gives me high anxiety. I will start working in one month, nowadays would be impossible for me to stay at this job.
Why Aspirin?

... keep reading on reddit β‘What kind of reaction do salicylic acid and acetic anhydride undergo to form aspirin? I think itβs an acetylation reaction but Iβve also read that itβs esterification
βYou mean aspirin?β asked the pharmacist.
βThatβs it! I can never remember that word.β
I remember synthesizing aspirin for my introduction to ochem lab years ago, but cannot remember what reagents were used. What are the common ways to synthesize it in an undergraduate lab setting?
This is a curiosity-based question btw.
Procedure
Add to a 50mL Erlenmeyer flask 1.38g (0.010mol) of salicylic acid and 2.8mL (3.1g, 0.030mol) of acetic anhydride. To this mixture, add 3 drops of 85% phosphoric acid and swirl the flask to mix the contents. Fit the flask with a reflux condenser (Note 1), and heat the mixture on the steam bath for about 5 minutes.
Without cooling the mixture, add 1mL (0.056mol) of water in one portion down the condenser. The excess acetic anhydride will hydrolyze, and the contents of the flask will come to a boil (Note 2).
When the exothermic hydrolysis reaction has ended, add 25mL of cold water to the flask, cool the mixture to room temperature, stir and rub the mixture with a stirring rod if necessary to induce crystallization, and finally allow the mixture to stand in the ice bath for 10 minutes or so to complete crystallization.
Collect the product by suction filtration and wash it with a little water. The product can be recrystallized from water. Acetylsalicylic acid is reported to melt at 135Β°C with rapid heating.
Notes
From Techniques and Experiments for Organic Chemistry, 6ed, by Addison Ault.
He says, "You mean aspirin?"
I go, βYeah, thatβs it, I can never remember that word."
Hello, I was wondering, since Iβm doing a work on aspirin in my chemistry analysis class, why acetylsalicylic acid shouldnβt be stored overnight in water. Does it go bad? Does the ASA react and form another compound? Does it loose an hydrogen atom? Someone please explain to me why you always use a fresh mixture of ASA.
