My boy Majungasaurus is back! I know it seems like most if not all of the JWE dinosaurs are in the game at this point but still, nice to see this cannibalistic carnosaur is back and rocking some sweet red markings too. As an Abelisaurid fan this is exciting news reddit.com/gallery/pbksu3

Abelisaurid Questions

I’m writing a Jurassic Park-style novel, and I was wanting Abelisaurids to be one of the main predators. I’m not looking for 100% realism, but rather, a naturalistic feel, as if these animals could really exist (like in All Yesterdays).

Some of my questions: Given what we know about Abelisaurid anatomy, could they inflict severe harm by kicking their prey? As their arms were borderline vestigial, it’s likely that they would use their feet like a real bird.

Given their more slender jaws, is venomous spittle a possibility? Perhaps along the lines of a Komodo dragon?

Abelisaurids had very rugged and wrinkled skulls, which have been suggested to be able to bear keratinous spines and structures. Would a quilled or spine-covered head be possible for some species, like Scorpiovenator?

Is it likely Majupasaurus or Carnotaurus had much larger horns than preserved, with the bone serving as a base for the main structure?

Little known fact: there was a giant abelisaurid during Late Creatures Kenya that at 11-12 meters in length, was close to T-rex in length.

At 11-12 meters long, this as yet unnamed dinosaur was far larger than all other known abelisaurids (the group that includes Carnotaurus and Majungasaurus), putting it on par with some of the largest theropod dinosaurs. The discovery was announced in a list of paper abstracts during the 73rd meeting of the Society of Vertebrata Paleontology in 2013. The abstract is in this link. It is on the top left of page 211.

Of course until a full description is published, the estimates of its size are still uncertain (it wouldn't be the first time the size of a new dinosaur was initially overestimated). Still seeing as how this giant abelisaurid lived during the Late Cretaceous when the larger carcharodontosaurids had gone extinct, abelisaurids growing to large sizes like this to fill the vacant niches of the carcharodontosaurids makes sense.

[Question] If there was no North-South divide between the landmasses during the Late Cretaceous, which large predator would dominate? Tyrannosaurids or Abelisaurids?

This isn't a "who will win scenario". I'm just curious. The Tyrannosaurids pretty much out competed and took the place of every large predator in the Northern continents. How would they fare in the South were the Abelisaurids dominated? Would they have taken over their niches? Would the Abelisaurids have out competed the Tyrannosaurids if they somehow found themselves in the North?

My POV imaginative of TOHO's monsters as part of WB and Legendary's MonsterVerse

Since Rodan, Mothra, Ghidorah, Mechagodzilla, and Merian C. Cooper's monster ape character King Kong appeared in MonsterVerse, I wonder what will the other iconic kaijus of TOHO's library will looked like in my point-of-view.

  • Gorosaurus, an abelisaurid-descent dinosaur titan
  • Titanosaurus, a spinosaurid-descent dinosaur titan
  • Kumonga, a giant arachnid titan of the Salticidae family of jumping spiders
  • Anguirus, a nodosaurid-descent dinosaur titan
  • Kamacuras, a giant orchid mantis titan
  • Manda, a legendary sea dragon titan
  • Ebirah, a giant lobster titan with its disproportionately large claw, larger than half the creature's body, similar to that of a pistol shrimp's.
  • Battra, as a male variant of the species separate from the close related Titanus Mosura
  • Mothra Leo, as a male variant of the same species, Titanus Mosura
  • Gezora, a giant cephalopod titan of the Sepiidae family of cuttlefish, more resembles to its close relative, the flamboyant cuttlefish.
  • King Ceaser, a giant Panthera titan, closely related to lions
  • Baragon, a dicynodont-descent synapsid titan
  • Megalon, a giant insect titan of the rhinoceros beetle genus, Allomyrina.
  • Zilla, a dinosaur titan of unknown theropod origins
  • Varan, a giant Draco lizard titan
  • Jet Jaguar (with Pacific Rim vibes)
  • Megaguirus, a giant dragonfly titan
  • Kamoebas, a giant matamata turtle titan

As for the other TOHO monsters, I can't imagine what their MonsterVerse incarnations will look like. Decided to let you guys figure them out of their MV appearances in the comments.

  • SpaceGodzilla
  • Hedorah
  • Gigan
  • Biollante
  • Orga
  • Sanda
  • Gaira
  • Keiser Ghidorah
  • Desghidorah
  • Gabara

So, what are you guys thought of what the appearances of TOHO's other iconic monsters may looked like if they were added to WB and Legendary's MonsterVerse?

SERIOUS: This subreddit needs to understand what a "dad joke" really means.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
