A list of puns related to "Abbie Hoffman"
I don't think Hoffman is mentioned in this mod (unless I missed him in an event somewhere) depsite having a relatively large level of influence in the counterculture movement of the 60s and 70s. So the question is; what is he doing in TNO?
Personally I think he would still be pro-communist and would oppose the war in south africa, while taking a strong ant-German and anti-Japanese stance. He would oppose the germans for obvious reasons, while his stance on the Japanese would certainly be influenced by the treaty ports and annexation of Hawaii. He would probably be part of the NPP-C or NPP-L, maybe having minor connections or relations with either Hall or RFK, depending on the path.
Or maybe he isn't significant at all, and has instead just faded into obscurity. Either seem plausible.
For anybody that remembers or was alive in the 60s,I was wondering what was the common opinion on Abbie Hoffman, and if people took him seriously

The most heartbreaking thing about Abbieβs life is that he actually succeeded with the festival of life in 1968 until the police began attacking. Although the primary goal was to protest the war, Abbie also talked about the festival being an example of how different subcultures can come together and share and be happy despite any differences then have within the communities. He also implemented the free stores that he first saw with the diggers in the earlier years of his activism which I really admire. My point is, the Chicago riots and the trials ultimately saw Abbieβs hard work coming into fruition with the police and media playing right into his hands. The government saw that and did everything to destroy him in the years after the trial and far leftist groups have yet to have such a strong political voice since. Itβs awfulthat we not only canβt harness the same energy today, but weβll never see a haven like that of the events organised by Abbie Hoffman again, and that hurts.
((Disclaimer, Iβm still new at studying this so thereβs lots that I donβt know, Iβm just sad about the stuff I do know))
I really enjoyed learning about the history of protests, what other episodes should I listen to? I really like when it can get Dave riled up and going on rants like he does in this series.
I used to consider myself an agnostic. Then I thought about it and realized Iβm an atheist. I used to consider myself a liberal. Then I listened to the Abbie Hoffman episodes and realized Iβm a leftist. Thanks Dave for your well-informed rage.
Its a question I've wondered for some time, Abbie Hoffman was a very socially adept individual. Fred Hampton had not only reinvigorated the social rights movement, but at only 20 he became a leading figure. These two seem like they would have been absolutely fascinated by each other. So why did Hoffman refuse to meet with Hampton? I cant find anything about it. Is the answer lost to history, my only rationale for thinking that is media, culture at the time allowed it to just look the other way. Thanks in advance!
