A list of puns related to "1968 Democratic National Convention"
I'm an historical researcher based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Admittedly, I have not been to Guam. But I do have a question.
In 1968, Guam selected six delegates and three alternates to attend the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
One of those delegates, and the only woman, was Madeleine Z. Bordallo, who later served as Guam's delegate to the U.S. Congress.
But I have not been able to find the names of the other five delegates and three alternates. The only published list of delegates, which is unofficial, unfortunately omits Guam.
Perhaps this information was mentioned in a Guam newspaper at the time. Such newspapers may be available on microfilm at a library there. Or, possibly, there is some official record held by Guam election authorities.
I am hoping the information has not been lost.
Many thanks for any help or advice!
I was just listening to the FiveThirtyEight podcast on how the current nomination process came about and how its genesis can be found in the 1968 Democratic National Convention, and was pretty amazed at how fast it went from being proposed to being implemented. Is that an accurate perception: that it really did change quickly? Or is it not actually that significant how fast it changed?
And one other aspect of the podcast I'm interested in was (and I may be misphrasing this) their discussion of how all of this actually came to pass specifically as a result of a vote during the convention itself. The way the podcast laid it out, McCarthy supporters wanted to push some kind of nomination reform and were able to get the resolution passed at the convention, but seemingly they got it to pass because the people at the convention/committee voting on it may not have even paid attention or misunderstood. Is that really accurate? It seems kind of funny in hindsight, but I'm not sure how binding that vote could've been. Sure, the nomination process did end up completely changing after that convention but was that vote truly a vote to 100% change the process, no takebacks?
