A list of puns related to "Winnie the Pooh (franchise)"
Too many bear wires.
They have the same middle name.
I understand that China has ridiculous censorship rules, and I also understand that China is the biggest market in the world and losing it would mean losing millions in profit.
I understand that Blizzard lets a third party company, Netease, manage the Overwatch stuff in China, so technically the decision was not made by Blizzard.
I understand that this decision is, hence, just Netease making sure they don't get in trouble. And that Blizzard just lets Netease manage their IP in China.
But... are we saying that it's okay for a company to not boycott fascism because of profit? This is exactly the thing that enables dictatorships in the first place, people hiding behind the fact that "it's the law, I did not make the law, hence I am not responsible for just obeying the law".
Well guess what? No. The Holocaust was also "the law".
We can still, legitimately, ask Blizzard not to support such blatant violations of human rights. The fact that it is convenient for them to comply with the local Chinese law is not an excuse for doing so. Since the vast majority of the comments I have seen is along the lines of "well, it's just the law mate, not Blizzard's fault, that's how the world works", I just wanted to point this out. Staying silent is siding with the oppressor. Always. And human rights don't get cancelled overnight, they get taken away piece by piece, slowly, until there is nothing left.
Edit: just tired of people accusing me of clickbaiting with "Unpopular opinion". Here I am complaining about what we think about the actions of Blizzard. From the majority of comments I have seen, both here and on the other thread, a lot of users think that this is fine. I think it is not (see above), which makes my opinion unpopular. That's all. Of course we all think chinese censorship is bad.
Edit 2: about the Holocaust: I am comparing the stance of people in this subreddit regarding Blizzard's position on this incident to the stance of German people involved in the holocaust regarding the holocaust. It is the law. It doesn't mean it is right. It doesn't mean you don't have a choice.
I am (of course) not comparing the Winnie-the-pooh permaban to the Holocaust.
