M153 - Widening Participation Motion - VOTE NOW

Order, order!

#Widening Participation Motion

A Motion to widen participation for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to increase participation in culture.

Recognises that:

(1) There are large swathes of gifted and talented young people who face challenges because of their disadvantaged background.

(2) Many young people from more privileged backgrounds currently participate in culture in disproportionate numbers and have more opportunities to do so.

Urges that:

(1) Action is to be taken to address the issues of a lack of diversity in culture participation of young people who have parents that did not attend university, have a household income of less than Β£21,000, live in social housing, lived the majority of their lives in care, learning English as an additional language or pupils of an ethnic minority.

(2) Arts Council England shall deliver a new programme to state schools promoting culture and the opportunities open to young people, allowing them to realise their full potential.

(3) The areas tackled first will be schools that have a majority of their pupils living in wards that are currently measured by the Office for National Statistics as being in the top 20% group of wards that have the highest rates of deprivation according to the Index of Multiple Deprivation.

This motion was written and submitted by /u/thatthinginthecorner and sponsored by /u/purpleslug, on behalf of the Liberal Democrats.

The voting period for this motion will end on August 15th, 10PM BST.

Please read!!! Does the sixth form you go to really matter? If I go to a mediocre sixth form, and a few of my teachers are not the best, would it impact me? Or can I still do good in my subjects with tuition and my own revision? I'm aiming for high so A's, would the sixth form really impact me?

SERIOUS: This subreddit needs to understand what a "dad joke" really means.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
