I've been critical of the way Bethesda released private servers, but decided after some thinking that I would give it a try for a few different reasons. Here's what I encountered, for those considering a subscription and looking for thorough anecdotes and opinions:
+ I log into my first private world and wow, it feels a lot smoother. Just loading into the world takes a few seconds whereas previously it would take a good 20-30s before the lag would stop and everything would be spawned in.
+ I run to Flatwoods to do a comparison. I recently started a new alt and had just finished snooping around this town a bit in Adventure mode, but it was super duper laggy, so I want to see how this private world handles it. I get there and it's notably better performance all around, quite stable. Cleared most of the place out with only one hitch of a couple seconds. There also seems to be less texture pop-in and faster menu response. Me likey.
+ I move on north toward Morgantown. I clear stuff on the way and the game is still going strong. I'm happy with my purchase and think, "If only launch was like this this game's rep would be notably different." I'm pretty stoked about what this could mean for the future.
+ I arrive at Morgantown Airport and this is where things start to go wrong. It is an absolute shitfest. There are a pack of scorched on the western end, and my game starts to chug when I get near but as soon as I aggro them it turns into a slideshow. I can't even aim my gun and am rapidly losing stimpacks to my auto-stim perk. I run away.
+ I decide to reboot the PC and see if that clears it. Log in, same horrible lag at Morgantown. I try again with no change but it does seem like a new world, so I'm not sure what the problem is. I jump into Adventure mode and it's just as bad, I can't tell a difference between the two server types. I notice that the menu lag is still reduced, and logging into/out of the game is much faster and smoother, but the in-game play experience does not reflect these improvements. I spend in total about an hour server swapping and in the end Morgantown is just plain awful... until.
+ I find a side that isn't well defended and kill the couple of scorched there. It's still laggy but not a slideshow. I then proceed to clear my way through the entire airport, and the lag is noticeably diminishing. Several times I would be in one area of the airport and kill the final scorched nearby, and there would be this immediate, noticeable l

We all represented a different country and played their national anthem and had podium ceremonies and announcers, it was really fun.
One of the events was called QuaranTrains, a modified version of Ticket to Ride. Before we started playing, we each wrote down the name of a city that was quarantined, and when we finished the game we pulled off every train line that connected through the quarantined cities--before totalling any score (our family do not keep score as we play along; we find it very cumbersome in this game).
To make sure we all were forced to still pull destination tickets, we forced a group draw after the first player laid his or her 15th train and 30th train (forcing a total of three draws including the initial deal). To compensate for the complete destruction of our lines, we offered double points for any destination ticket that was still completed after the quarantine removal. We still saw much lower scores than usual.
It threw the game completely, ruined the longest line contention and destroyed our runs. It was awesome.
Edit: Link to a video of the end of the game, as we pulled trains off that connected to our quarantined cities. No one was happy, but we were all having a great time as we got equally destroyed.

Iβm tempted to get in on the new kickstarter but I feel like it might already satisfy a similar itch with Ticket to Ride (with the card draft style an route building, and expedition cards). Also the dice tour video on web of power said elements of Ticket to Ride may have been influenced by WoP
Still would be tempted because the area control focus means more player interaction (which I am always a fan of), but also worried a bit that people might AP over the math like in Power Grid (the end game in my group drags on forever in my group as people start busting out the calculators to figure out the optimum placement)
Dear Aunty Gladys
Do I have a problem? π
My eldest son bought Ticket to Ride Europe for the house back in January.
Since then we have "gained" TTR: London, TTR: Germany, TTR: 1912, TTR: Orient Express, TTR: Rails and Sails, TTR Map collection 5 UK and TTR Map Collection 7 Japan
This evening in a random moment, I bought TTR Poland and TTR: New York (curse you Chaos Cards for having them !!!)
We do play TTR at least once a week, and have a huge variety of games that we could play (including my favourites Ghostel and the five million variants of Fluxx)
Do I need to sign up to TTR Addicts Anonymous?
Yours Dutiful Fluxx Addict.
Habitual or repeat offenders have to work with the coroner or morgue.
Iβd probably pick the peoplemover or the haunted mansion!

Cheers!
The details might be a bit fuzzy as it happened a few months ago, but I recently discovered this sub so I thought itβd fit here.
ME: Me EM: Entitled mom EB: Entitled brat
So, thereβs this giant super tubing place near where I live and I go there quite regularly. You can get 5 ride tickets for about Β£6.
So I bought my tickets and went on my first ride. Itβs a steep hill back up, you have to walk it as thereβs no ride up, and I could be fitter, so when I get up I take a little break. Thatβs when this kid comes up to me and swipes my tickets.
Me: Excuse me, those are mine, Iβd like them back?
EB: Mommy says I can have one.
Me: Sheβll have to buy some, you canβt just steal other peoples stuff, yeah? (Note I had a pretty calm tone of voice because being angry wonβt get me anywhere.)
At this point EM walks up to me and asks why Iβm trying to take HER kidβs tickets.
Me: Excuse me? Those are my tickets, your kid just took them from my hand.
EM: Oh... You obviously werenβt using them, though. You were just stood there doing nothing.
Iβm not visibly unfit, I have a pretty regular body type, so I can see why she thought I wasnβt using them.
Me: ..No, I was taking a breather. Tickets are pretty cheap, so if you can afford fuel for your car to get here, you should be able to afford tickets.
EB starts making weird whiny noises and muttering about how βhe wants the rideβ.
EM: You werenβt even going on the ride!
Me: You could have asked me? (Iβm a pretty generous person, so if she had asked I would have gave her kid a few to be honest.)
At this point security notices weβre arguing, comes up to us and asks whatβs wrong. Weβll call the security guy S.
S: Whats going on here?
EM: This boy is unfairly hogging tickets.
Me: This womanβs son stole my tickets.
EM starts panicking and claimed I stole them, and then S asks us both if we can prove who bought it.
Itβs still the same person in the shop selling tickets on the shift, so she just tells S it was me who bought them. EM and EB are told to leave and I go on with my day.
It was pretty annoying, but there are always gonna be people like that out there. Sorry if this was a pretty boring one, luckily that was the only entitledparents experience Iβve had.
