A list of puns related to "The Other World"
It's just about 11pm as I write this one up. It's nice and cool tonight, as we've had a pretty gentle summer for once. This time a year ago, the sky was red, it was the third month in a row of thick, fog-like smoke, making all hours of the day seem like a red winter morning. The clouds over the horizon were made of plumes of smoke from burning bush, and the mountains on my doorstep glowed at night on fire. I wasn't even anywhere near the bad spots, either.
I'm not from Austin, or Texas, and not even from the United States at all. I'm down here in sunny Australia. Last year as my home land burnt down in one of the worst bushfire seasons we've ever experienced, our Prime Minister left for a holiday to Hawaii. The budgets for our fireservices were cut heavily, and donations to the government's to give to the community fire services were strangely never seen.
We received help from our friends in the USA, with aerial water bombers, fire fighters and equipment, as we were well too stretched thin ourselves. You Americans have always had our back for these things, despite a lot of the time our leaders being the ones to fail us in the first place.
I'm not really sure why I'm writing this up. But in 2003, my city, Canberra, the capital city of Aus, burnt down to the point where they were planning to evacuate the entire city, not just suburbs, but entire 400 000 citizens, who were at risk. Officials and disorganised government teams were found to be the reason, after an enquiry, that things got as bad as they did. We often thought after a decade and a half that things would be better if it happened again, but instead half the country burnt down and those in charge just up and left.
From me, down here in Australia, I do wish there was something I could do, as I know what it's like to be out of power and resources, with officials and governments failing us on things which could have been avoidable. While I've certainly not experienced the big freeze you're having, as Australia is a bit too spicy for that, I just want to let you all know that your stories and your situation are definitely making the world stage. While I myself as a random guy don't have much to offer from thousands and thousands of miles away, I'm always up for a chat! For those of you in a struggle, stay strong and safe and vigilant, and reach out. Even if it's just to some Aussie you don't know.
Keep strong and warm all of you, and I hope for the best! To the rest of the world your country has be

I was given a 1 week notice that I would need to spend an entire week in the other side of the world (south Asia) to attend my cousin's wedding. No warning, I would need to leave in a week.
In my culture, it's customary to have a brother at weddings as part of various ceremonies. My cousin's brother passed away several years ago, and I'm the closest my cousin has to a brother. I have only met my cousin once for about 2 weeks.
My mother has been pushing me to go, saying that my grandma has been crying there would be no brother there.
I have been working long nights at my job working towards a promotion. One of the things I picked up was to fill in for a team member who is out, and it requires live, daily support. I am overloaded at work aiming towards a promotion. The performance reviews start 2 weeks after the wedding and I was told with all of this work I should be ready.
If I leave for a week, there will be no one to fill in, and this is a high profile project in the company. Leaving will impact my chances of promotion, and I really want it, it's the top goal I had set for this year for myself. In addition, the flight would cost between $1000-$1500, and it would be 2 days travelling to and from each way (4 total). I would somehow need to prepare all of the traditional outfits needed in the week before.
AITA for saying I cannot make this happen? I truly feel bad I cannot be there but I'm being told I'm in the wrong for not wanting to going.
Itโs wild how many people are in these starting zones it makes the world feel so alive. In live, making a level one character is a barren wasteland. You even forget that itโs a multiplayer game.
We hear all the time about bacteria becoming drug resistant by over prescribing antibiotics, can the same thing happen with viruses or bacteria and disinfectant?
