Hi! A few years ago my dad lent (almost gave me) all his CDs from the Beatles and a few weeksβ ago he found his old vinyl collection. Though I know most successful Beatles songs thanks to media and compilations, I know thereβs might be some gems between the album's tracks, so Iβ was thinking in marathon their discography.
However, Iβ would like some tips and suggestions. Should Iβ listen in chronological order?β Should Iβ skip the albums Iβ donβt have? Suggestions on what to do while listening to the songs?β Try to listen one or two album(s) per day? Better moment to do such a thing? Should Iβ skip tracks Iβve heard before? Should Iβ skip tracks present in more than one album*? Are Compilations that important?
For reference hereβs my current discography:
Please Please Me - CD Aβ Hard Dayβs Night - CD Rubber Soul - Vinyl Revolver - CD Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - CD &ββ Vinyl The Beatles (White Album)β - CD &β Vinyl (Vinyl only disc 2. Disc 1 sadly probably broken) Yellow Submarine - CDββ &β Vinyl Love Songs - Vinyl Past Masters Vol.1 & 2 - CD 1 - CD
(Nearly 200 tracks with 9,0 hours of play)
*E.g. Yellow Submarine on both Revolver and Yellow Submarine plus 1.
Not sure if matters but the CDs are the reissues from the 80s (I think)β, Sgt. Peppers and Yellow Submarine are reissues too (Not sure the date, but there are already mentions to Let It Be on the disc sleeve) and Iβ guess Rubber Soul, White Album, Love Songs (Vinyl) and Past Masters Vol. 1 &β 2 and 1 (CDs) are back when they were released.
Thanks for any help and who knows after this journey I don't write a full discography review?

#Important: This thread is only for SOLO flairs! All Beatles album flairs are located in the sidebar and can be granted by yourself!
Hey all!
Reddit allows users to equip flairs to their name in specific subreddits. Our flairs consist of album covers and an optional comment. In the side-bar you can equip all The Beatles' main studio albums (plus extras like Anthology, 1, Let It Be... Naked, etc.). However, behind-the-scenes we've also added flairs for all solo studio albums - including Wings and the Travelling Wilburys. As you could imagine, adding all of these to the side-bar with the others would make it way too full, so if you would like one of these solo albums as your flair, comment below which album you would like and the comment to go along with it. Thank you!
Many a times i see random song recommendations on my feed. Those are usually their most popular songs. I love that song so much that i decide to look up other music. But in a row all their other songs disappoint. I'm not very impatient or pessimistic so i decide to wait for their new release. If that too disappoints, i more than often give up for good. Ever happened with y'all? Which song? Which artist? Do you have any hopes or you've totally given up?
Tysm!
Obviously there are artists which have their debut as their greatest work (Guns N' Roses, Nas, Wu-Tang Clan) but for the majority of the music it isn't the case. I personally prefer to listen in chronological order, even if it means to listen to some mediocre stuff too. In my opinion in that way you could see the artist evolve and grow artistically in different directions, especially more experimental acts like Radiohead, Autechre, Swans, Bjork, David Bowie. Probably it isn't the same with more straightforward bands but i guess any album is worth a listen. What's your opinion? Do you think there are artists/bands discographies that are better to listen in chronological order?
I've been thinking about this lately, and how some artists use their albums to tell a story.
I first thought of this when listening to "Brave New Girl" by Britney Spears, and thought it could've been a Glee montage when Rachel Berry gets to NY.
I feel like there could be a pretty cool movie/musical to Taylor Swift's albums, and definitely a lot of other artists. Probably would need a minimum of 10 songs, if not more for it truly tell a story based on the artists work.
Also, who you guys cast in this movie/musical?
Ive worked really hard to get this one
I listen to Iron Maiden since i can remember i listen to music, but i had never listened all of their albums until now. I will do the classic "worst to best" with some notes about it:
16 - No Prayer for the Dying - I remember listening to this a lot when i was younger, it was really good but... Would be better if this had stayed in my memory. It's not a complete shit, "No Prayer for the Dying" is nice, bring you daughter to the slaughter is enjoyable, but the others, as much as i listen to it gets worse.
15 - Virtual XI - This was new to me, but not exactly a good experience. The Clansman is amazing, Futureal is nice, Como Estais Amigo and When Two Worlds Collide are not bad. But the rest is shit to me, i just can't understand The Angel and The Gambler, how do all the band and the team listened to this and said "this is good", it's IMPOSSIBLE to listen the entire song! The others are just... not good. At least the cover art is incredible, one of my favorites.
14 - The X Factor - Other new experience. If i had one word to describe it, it will be "dark". The lyrics, the songs, the Blaze Bayley voice, all of this is just... dark. I enjoyed it, but not so much. Sign of the Cross is one of the best maiden songs, the others are not bad, just forgettable.
13 - Fear of the Dark - This, as NPFTD, was better in my memory. Fear of the Dark (song) is amazing, Be Quick or Be Dead and Afraid to Shoot Strangers are good too, the rest is forgettable or really bad.
12 - Killers - Don't kill me, please, i know this is an unpopular opinion, but i really don't like it so much. New experience, never listened to before (except for 2 or 3 songs), i just think it's a more generic version of the first album, but more repetitive and boring.
11 - The Final Frontier - Now the good stuff begin. Other new experience, but a surprise. A really good album, especially "When the Wild Wind Blows", this is a masterpiece. It would be higher on the list if it had more "highlights", it's a bit forgettable, except for the last song and El Dorado, it didn't catch me so much. But, still a very good album.
10 - Book of Souls - Really hard choice. I listened to this when it launched, and my opinion remains the same. Very good album, it has a song that is on top 5 best maiden songs (Empire of the Clouds), and others that are amazing, like If Eternity Should Fail, Book of Souls and Speed of Light. The others are good too. The hard step of putting this on the 10th position is that, i really love

edits: any of the ones i missed
For me personally it's rare that if i like a bands music i actually delve into their solo stuff because to be honest, 90% of the time it does not even come close to the original band but with something as auteured and finely polished as Steely Dan i should have figured i would not be dissapointed so recently i listened to The Nightfly by Donald Fagen and it just sounds like a fantastic continuation on the Steely Dan sound, his other solo albums are great too but that one in specific is just like an additional Steely Dan album to delve into so if you haven't yet, please listen to this album.
