A list of puns related to "Terri Schiavo case"
Some Redditors might be too young to remember the case of Terri Schiavo back in 2005. This case was the #1 story for a while in 2005. Terri Schiavo was in a 15-year persistent vegetative state (1990-2005). Her husband, Michael Schiavo, wished to remove her from life support, but her parents objected. A legal battle went on for years, and eventually Jeb Bush stepped in to quickly pass legislative to give him the authority to take action and even took Terri's body into state custody.
From Wikipedia:
> On October 15, 2003, Schiavo's feeding tube was removed. Within a week, when the Schindlers' final appeal was exhausted, State Rep. Frank Attkisson and the Florida Legislature hastily passed "Terri's Law," giving Governor Jeb Bush the authority to intervene in the case. Governor Bush immediately ordered the feeding tube reinserted. Governor Bush sent the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) to remove Schiavo from the hospice. She was taken to Morton Plant Rehabilitation Hospital in Clearwater, where her feeding tube was surgically reinserted.[41] She was then returned to the hospice. Part of the legislation required the appointment of a guardian ad litem (GAL), Dr. Jay Wolfson, to "deduce and represent the best wishes and best interests" of Schiavo, and report them to Governor Bush. Wolfson's report did not change Michael's role as her legal guardian and did not otherwise obstruct him legally.[12]
Terri's Law was later ruled unconstitutional by the Florida Supreme Court.

Eventually President George W. Bush got involved, and here was the outcome of the case, as reported in this recent NYTimes article:
> As if the failed attempts at intervention by Florida politicians were not enough of a cautionary tale, Congress and President George W. Bush plunged into the fray in early 2005, enacting legislation with dazzling speed to transfer jurisdiction of the case from state courts to the federal judiciary. More legal to-ing and fro-ing ensued, but it did not last long. State court orders prevailed. The feeding tube was removed, and Ms. Schiavo died at a hospice in Pinellas Park, Fla.
tl;dr Jeb Bush intervened in

Basically he scolds the left for its selective outrage when it comes to gov't involvement, i.e. BUT ABORTIONS!! Oh, but he scolds the right too on that front. WHY ARE THEY NOT CONCENTRATING ON REPEALING ROE V. WADE?
He manages to squeeze death panels in there:
>We're rapidly moving toward a time when these decisions will be based on the cost of care alone, since government pays all the bills under nationalized health care.
And:
>Free-market medicine is not perfect, but it's the best system to sort out these difficult problems β and it did so for years.
Yeah, that was the problem with the Schiavo case, Free-Market medicine.
The rest of the article is a diatribe about society being morally banrkupt because women can get abortions. Oh, and old people being euthanized under gov't care because they cost too much.
I still didn't get what his position was on the actual Schiavo matter though. Was he in favor of pulling the tube or not?
