A list of puns related to "Ten Essentials"
For me the creeping, impending doom of Jaws and Alien are both great, but I could get it from one and add in a Rocky Horror or Sean of the Dead to mix things up and give a more full spectrum.
My ten essential horror movies wouldnβt be a ranking, it would be a goody bag with slashers, thrillers, ghosts and monsters and everything high and low in between.
What are the ten essential horror movies for you?
Edit: Cheers to you! These lists are dope. Every time I read a new list I think βOh yeah, thatβs a must!β
Iβm going to add these all to a spreadsheet and Iβll share. Itβll be cool to see what was rare and what made a ton of lists.
Edit 2: The results are in! https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/qjofvn/essential_horror_movies_as_ranked_by_rmovies/
I am using Vim simply because my class requires me to. I'm hoping that if I learn to use it better it will be something other than painful, but I have to say the enthusiasm to learn the entire repertoire of commands isn't there.
What are the commands I should focus on first to make me more efficient and not miss using my mouse/scrollwheel?
No need to include esc, :w, :q, and i since those are bare minimum functionality.
Hi everybody! I love the Marvel and DC universes and used to be a regular comic reader. I lost the opportunity to read new comics regularly around 2011 - 2012 and haven't been able to fully dive back in since then outside of a few isolated series (such as the Fraction/Aja Hawkeye run).
I recently got a Marvel Unlimited subscription and want to go through some of the most acclaimed series and those that have a big impact on the universe. I'm about to start going through Hickman's Fantastic Four (which I missed during the time I was a regular reader) and want to move on chronologically to other major series.
I know I'm going to have to hit Hickman's Avengers run and Secret Wars, Jason Aaron's Thor, the Moon Knight series by both Warren Ellis and Jeff Lemire, and Superior Spider-Man.
What are some of your favorite Marvel comic runs from the last 10 years that you would recommend to someone getting back into the Marvel universe, and what are the biggest, most important events that I shouldn't miss along the way?
Just like Pitchfork a few years ago, Revolver Magazine has issued a list of essential industrial records. Link is below:
https://www.revolvermag.com/music/10-essential-industrial-albums
In their listed other, which doesn't seem to be ranked:
EinstΓΌrzende Neubauten - Haus der LΓΌge
I'm not the biggest EN fan, but I totally get the inclusion. Only thing here: I uh, don't think that's piss coming from the horse, Revolver.
Fear Factory - Demanufacture
Not really a record I would necessarily put on a list like this, but coming from a rock and metal publication I'm not surprised. A good album to be sure, probably Fear Factory's landmark release.
Front 242 - Front by Front
No argument here. Classic record from top to bottom.
Godflesh - Streetcleaner
Not my favorite Godflesh record, but again, I can't be bothered to argue it. It's a classic.
Killing Joke - Killing Joke
Just like when Pitchfork included this album, I don't totally understand it. It's much more a post punk record than industrial imo. Killing Joke went on to make albums with way more industrial characteristics and sound (Pandemonium for instance) and they for sure influenced a lot of industrial rock artists in particular, but I don't think this really belongs here.
KMFDM - Nihil
Surprised not to find Naive again. Nihil is an outstanding KMFDM record though and probably their most consistently great from front to back, so I can see it being placed here.
Ministry - Psalm 69
I would've gone with either Land of Rape and Honey or The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste, but Psalm 69 is the 'safer' pick I suppose. Either way, a very good album that I can't argue against.
Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine
You just know an NIN album would be here, and between The Downwards Spiral and PHM they picked PHM. I prefer TDS to this one, but it is still a no brainer of a pick.
Skinny Puppy - Too Dark Park
Don't think anyone can argue this one. Some fans might prefer Last Rights or VIVISectVI, but Too Dark Park is always essential.
Throbbing Gristle - D.o.A.: The Third and Final Report
In a list heavy on industrial rock and metal, this feels a bit out of left field. A more daring pick than 20 Jazz Funk Greats at least, even if I don't think it's quite as good of an album.
So, not a bad list overall but some of the same issues with Pitchfork's list are ones I have here. Why no Front Line Assembly? Ta
... keep reading on reddit β‘ok so allow me to preface this by saying iβve never actually written a full screenplay, but i have read Save the Cat,
Hey everyone! I previously made βThe Essential Reading List for the Loki Disney+ Seriesβ that was well-received and figured I could continue making these, but release them before a given project airs to give people some time to pick some comics they would want to read in advance. This isnβt official or anything, I just hope that someone can get something out of the list that interests them. If there are issues or arcs you think I missed and would like to recommend, feel free to leave it in the comments and I'll edit the list and credit accordingly. I did use Comic Book Herald to assist with building my own personal reading list, but their list is a little lacking and outdated, so here's an updated version.
INTRODUCTION
Marvel Comics, like much of the American public, was bitten by the kung fu craze of the 70s and sought to bring to life the vivid world of East Asian martial arts films into the comic medium. Failing to acquire the rights to the popular television series, Kung Fu, they instead acquired the rights to Sax Rohmerβs Fu Manchu stories. This brought the character of the devil-doctor Fu Manchu and affiliated characters Sir Denis Nayland Smith, Dr. James Petrie and Fu Manchuβs daughter Fah Lo Suee. Steve Englehart and Jim Starlin developed the character of SHANG-CHI, the son of Fu Manchu who would rebel against his father and become a hero in his own right.
Shang-Chi Reading List
So I have been considering getting what I need to be able to go online and shop. There is so many logical arguments to about all aspects of searching, purchasing, and venders to use on DW that it gets overwhelming. I don't know much but that reading the bible is imperative and I just can't jump on from home using tor and Blockchain technology, there are many steps involved to be safe for myself and the places I interact with. So I am going to purchase everything I need, I just want a good start and cost range to get an average set up. please share your thoughts.
The post about no sunglasses got me thinking, and I believe I found a way to lower my base weight to 0.0 lbs by ditching the 10 essentials... Are they really necessary?
Navigation - Just follow the path, what am I missing here?
Flashlight - The sun provides all the light you need, sleep with the sun
Sun protection - It's called the shade. Skin cancer is years down the road, probably. Hiking at elevation will keep me nice and cool to avoid heat stroke. Sunglasses are redundant, your eyelids and irises should be able to shade your eyes, it's what they evolved to do. Tanned skin is beautiful!
First Aid - Don't get hurt and you'll never need this, or if you're really concerned about safety, just bring a PLB so you can call SAR as needed. They'll bring you a first aid kit, food, water, clothing... you name it.
Knife - For bushcrafters. LNT.
Fire starter - I'd rather die of exposure than risk a wildfire, my life is just not worth it and it's arrogant to think otherwise, plus the PLB is there if you need it. LNT.
Shelter - Cowboy camp
Food - Fastpack, you should be able to make it at least 2 weeks before eating again.
Water - Drink what you find and make sure your route passes by a water source at least every 3 days. Again that PLB is there if you need it.
Clothes - Wear underwear so you don't get arrested, other than that, why? Hike faster if you're cold, take a break if you overheat, spray permethrin directly onto your skin for 2 weeks of bug protection.
Without the 10 essentials do you even need a pack? We've concluded that all you really need is a PLB, so carry it in one of your two free hands and mark it worn for a 0.0 lb base weight.
A friend recently told me they felt the ten essentials were probably too expensive for people to purchase. I disagree, so here is a breakdown of inexpensive ten essentials links:
You can pick the ones that are the best or that might be your favorites, and you don't have to rank them. Here's a list from me in no order:
Honorable Mentions: The Coon, Butters' Very Own Episode, Butters' Bottom Bitch, You're Getting Old + Ass Burgers, Good Times With Weapons, Stupid Spoiled Whore Video Playset, Trapped In The Closet, The Death Of Eric Cartman, Marjorine, Cartoon Wars, Make Love Not Warcraft, about 30 other ones
These are hosts that have made several different promises for YEARS and have not followed through on shit. The show is funny sometimes but I no longer care if it burns down. They have their moments of being humorous but I no longer think of any of the hosts as relatively good or relatable people. They are humorous scam artists.
If all of the PKA guests got together and made a podcast where it was a random group of 3 past PKA guests chatting it would be light years better than this show that can't even put together a fucking game or segment together to play on the show.
What, once every 4 months they do an organized idea? Fuck that. You add the scamming tens of thousands of dollars on top of it all and this some real classless podcast.
EDIT2: commenting βwhy do you careβ is so brain dead. Should my response be βwhy donβt you care?β Or βwhy do you care that I care?β I donβt like people who scam tens of thousands of dollars thatβs why I care
EDIT: Some real weirdos in here who have genuinely convinced themselves that we are bad people for being mad at the hosts for not committing to any of their patreon goals or giving a damn about us as viewers at all. The twisted logic you use to say that what the hosts did isn't bad because there wasn't a legally binding contract to do the goals is astounding. Literal mental gymnastics to convince yourselves that simply taking peoples money is okay.
I've been to a few other musical subreddits and some of them have a community built "The Ten Essential Albums" list of the genre. Historically defining or simply pieces regarded as the absolute best in the genre. (/r/triphop is notably good)
If we had one here, what would it look like in your opinion? I find these are great tools for new-to-the-genre people who wonder into the subreddit looking for info.
What ya got?
