I recently heard that some sorta Satanic temple is protesting againt a certain law in Texas? Can someone explain to me what's actually going on?
First, I want to say I'm not American, so I'm an outsider looking in. But I've seen plenty about the Texas abortion ban here and over the net which is nothing short of antiquated and draconian. Abortion is healthcare (I'm saying this as an RN).
The Satanic Temple is attempting to challenge the ban saying it violates their religious abortion rituals. I don't follow TST closely but I know they've challenged comparable laws in different parts of the country. Again, as an outsider looking in I'm not sure how viable this would be in your courts but I hope they win.

Life-long member here and all 43 years of it in Texas. 30 years of it in north texas and currently I'm in Tarrant county. My dad and his parents were some of the earliest members in Ft. Worth. My grandparents were the only members in a farming community north of Ft. Worth. A little wide spot in the road named: "Colleyville." Due to urban sprawl, Colleyville is now a stake. We stopped going to church 3 years ago and resigned this past August. Just from living here and knowing the lay of the land, the location of the Dallas temple is pretty centrally located. All major population centers in North Texas can get to it in around 1 hour or less. And the Dallas temple is a large temple built as a regional temple in a large temple district. 44,000 square feet. (Houston temple is 33,000 and San Antonio is 16,000) Dallas temple hasn't been used at true capacity in a long time. Even long before Houston and San Antonio were built. Basically due to a shrinking temple district as more and more temples were built. I know this because my grandfather was one of the earliest sealers in the dallas temple. Was set-apart not long after its dedication in 1984. By the early 2000's he was lamenting how attendance is down.
In the years preceding our departure from church I can remember hearing how we need more attendance at the temple. "We're not seeing enough attendance." The only thing I can think is, they - the church - think more people will go to the temple if it's EVEN closer to them. I don't think attendance numbers will change even if the temple was right across the street. What's interesting is a lot of the population centers in Tarrant county are flat in growth. Everything has been built up. There's no much going on unless you go out farther north toward Denton and Texas Motor Speedway - what is called the Alliance area. And all of that is in Denton county. I don't know......if the church wants to desperately build temples to make it look like the stone is rolling forth. Denton seems like a more obvious choice, especially with its closer proximity to the MAJOR population centers of Collin county. Hell, a temple in an around Frisco would probably make more sense than Ft. Worth.
It just really amuses me seeing the church play its smoke and mirrors game. And something to consider: what does it say about the state of faith of the membership, if the church is trying to accommodate them by building temples closer to where they live? What happened to all those amazing stor

Unless something changed drastically when I was there from 2013-14, there is no reason to justify another temple there (especially considering the Dallas one isn't that far). In the time I was there (which, again, things could have changed), attendance seemed to drop in each of my areas (further confirmed by following those people on social media). The church could do a lot of good for a lot of people in Fort Worth but seeing them spend this money on a temple instead is infuriating. As a TBM, I always imagined the day I'd hear about a temple being built in my mission and "feel the spirit" and be so happy. I'm pissed. Fuck TSCC and its hoards of money.
