Sushruta was an ancient Indian physician and surgeon, often regarded as βFather of plastic surgeryβ. He invented plastic surgery of nose by using cheeks skin and reconstructing the nose with it.

TIL Sushruta, the first known plastic surgeon specialized in rhinoplasty i.e. nose reconstruction. This was important in ancient India as convicted criminals and women accused of adultry had their noses amputated as a mark of untrustworthiness. Best translations of charaka and sushruta samhitas?
I'm looking to introduce myself to ayurveda starting with the foundational texts. I was wondering if anyone had recommendations for english translations of these texts. I would preferably want one that preserves the original as much as possible for scholarly study.
I'd also appreciate recommendations of good commentaries on these works.

Shower thoughts- There is no clarity of birth dates of legends like Chanakya, Sushruta but we do celebrate birthdays of Hindu gods like Prabhu Shree Ram , Krishna, etc.
Was just reading history of India in before common Era. There are citations and proofs of the above named individuals with different storylines in Jainism and Hinduism folk cutlures and evidence being of them existing , but till date there birth years and dates are still not clear.
While on the other hand, we celebrate janmashtami , Ram navami to celebrate birthdays of Hindu gods on reference with hindu calender.
