A list of puns related to "Surface Book 3"
Hey guys,
I entered the Surface world with a Pro 7 last year and I've got to say I quite enjoyed it but my model (i5 8gb 256) doesn't really have what I need.
For context I'm a student, I do your run of the mill browsing and note taking (the stylus blew my mind on OneNote) but I also have a good slice of Photo and Video Editing as well as a healthy dose of web oriented content creation. My main tools are OneNote, Studio Code, Figma, and Adobe Ai, Ps, Ae and Pr.
I've grown fond of drawing on a screen but I also love drawing anywhere I'm at (so buying a huion canvas won't do), the Pro 7 is k but it has neither the battery life, nor the power to let me do my thing comfortably.
To sum things up I
've fallen in love with 2-in-1s a few years back
want something I can draw on like a tablet
need some beefy components for media creation
Anyways I've found a good deal on a Surface Book 3 (i7 32Gb 512Gb GTX 1660 for about 2000β¬) and it feels like a much needed upgrade but I've also been keeping an eye on the Laptop Studio which hasn't yet released here in Europe which means that I have absolutely no clue about the pricing.
Should I go for the Book 3 or is the Laptop Studio worth the wait (and possibly price hike) ?
also, if you know of any other 2-in-1 that can compete with that, I'm all ears
I didn't realize the SD Card is not flush with the device. Does it stick really far our or would it be bearable to carry around with it?
Posted this is r/suggestalaptop as well, but wanted to post it here to get different opinions. As this talks about another laptop besides the MacBook Pro, delete if not allowed, but any advise/comments about either laptop or just the MacBook Pro is appreciated.
Between the 13.5β Surface Book 3, i7/32GB RAM/512GB SSD and 2021 14β MacBook Pro, M1 pro/8 OR 10 core CPU/14 core GPU/16 core neural engine/16GB RAM/512 SSD, which one is the βbetterβ laptop?
I currently have the Surface Book 3 and am having hardware issues with it. I purchased geek squad protection at Best Buy where they will give me a gift card for the amount paid if they canβt fix it, and Iβm hoping they canβt since the laptop isnβt worth $3,000 CAD for the problems Iβm experiencing, IMO. Iβve always been a windows user but have gotten curious about macOS. What are some of the pros and cons about each laptop? I would be using it for basic things like MS Office suite, YouTube, Netflix, and surfing the web. I wouldnβt be doing anything that requires higher specs than what I described above such as video editing and hard core gaming (heck, I donβt even need 32GB or RAM but I wanted the 512 GB SSD, and i could only get it with 32GB of RAM). The main things Iβm looking for are display quality (this is probably the biggest since I mainly use it for watching videos), battery life, and ability to handle many browser tabs at once. The touch screen feature on my surface book doesnβt matter to me that much.
Specifically about the display, how does the MacBookβs Liquid Retina XDR display, 3024 X 1964 native resolution, 254 PPI, 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, compare to the surface bookβs PixelSense Display, 3000x2000 resolution, 267 PPI, 1600:1 contrast ratio?
I have the following laptops with me at the moment.
Surface Book 3 15" i7
Dell XPS 9510 i7-11800h
Macbook Pro 16 M1 Max, 64GB RAM, 32 unit GPU
M1 Macbook Pro 13 16GB RAM
In case any one has any questions then AMA
Some observations:
- The surface book 3 has by far the worse screen and CPU of the lot. It is frustrating to use and I will be selling it as soon as i get a chance
- The Dell XPS has a great screen with high birghtness, very high colour gamut and very low reflectivity (lower than the Macbooks). It is actually quite close to the new mini LED MBP 16 but with higher black levels.
- The Macbooks are super fast in all circumstances. I wish they could run all my windows programs as they are much faster in every day use. It is very noticable. The difference is huge when you compare something like Adobe Lightroom on any of the windows machines where it is comparatively slow and laggy. It just flies on the Macs. I don't know why it is still slow on the Dell even though seemingly it should have a reasonbly good CPU
This machine has never been joined to a domain... What do I do about this?

I found some open box deals on a couple laptops. Currently have a SB2 and love it. Both are $1500:
Surface Studio - 14.4" 16gb 512gb with 3050ti
OR
Surface Book 3 -15" 32gb 1tb with 1660ti
It looks like the GPU and battery life are better with the surface book 3. So it's mostly down to form factor. Decisions decisions. I donβt think I NEED the 1tb and ram. Those are nice though.
Thoughts?
So I was using my surface book 3, and it was being a fair bit slower than usual, then it made an electrical popping sound that I think might've come from the monitor part of the laptop, and right as it popped, the entire laptop suddenly just turned off. Like, instant black screen. After a few minutes I got it to turn back on. Both batteries were much lower than they should've been. Battery 1 was at around 1%, battery 2 was around 40. The event viewer didn't log anything about it (note: someone else checked the event viewer who knows more about computers than me, I'm not really at that level). Right now the laptop seems to be functioning perfectly fine, but something like this as far as I know could be really bad.
Is it normal for it to restart when I detach it from laptop mode and reattach it to tablet mode? Seems annoying. Also, does slim pen 2 work with it? (new owner)
Hey, I wanted to connect my surface book three to an extra monitor I had laying around the house. I really don't want to spend $200 on the microsoft surface dock. Can I just buy a Type -C to HDMI cable adapter? And will there be latency or delay issues?
Has anyone else experienced this?
and the hinge is creaky already. I've seen a few posts about it but I want to know if this becomes a problem long term for people?
Semester started back up, had it in school today and I only needed the battery(s) to last me 4 hours as I forgot to bring the charger.
Well it went from 100 to 0 in 3 hours. That cant be right?
Everything is updated, running the newest windows 11.
What should I try?
I'm currently running Linux Mint off a flash drive on my Book 3 and I can't seem to get my keyboard or trackpad working at all, only external devices are working. If there's any solution to this that anyone already knows of I would love to continue using this version, but at the same time if you have any better suggestions that might be a little easier or more fun to use I'd love to take a swing at whatever you've got. This is my first Linux experience so I dont really know what I'm looking for.
Edit to add some screenshots for context.
I have a Surface Book 3 13" with Nvidia GeForce 1650 Max-Q i7 16GB RAM 256 SSD. I have tried multiple things to help this issue with no luck. I have looked on the internet for hours multiple times for answers... My GPU will disconnect when starting games. Once the game is running, it will never crash. I have tried wiping my PC completely, multiple driver versions, and tried contacting Microsoft. No solutions yet. I have tried fiddling with the Nvidia settings as well. Does anyone please have a solution for this? My pc can handle Halo infinite just fine, I've played it with 35-40 fps. But now I'm not even able to get it started because the GPU disconnects. Microsoft wants me to send in my computer for 699$ when it's a year old. I would have found this issue sooner but hadn't attempted any stress on the system until I recently finished school. SOS PLS HELP this is driving me insane...
(I am normally moving to Windows 11)
I've been waiting for the Surface Book 3 13.5" to come in stock on the Surface for Business site for weeks. I noticed on the non-business site they have the exact configuration I need in stock, but with Win 10 Home on it (I need Windows 10 Pro).
Are there any other differences between business and non-business configs except the Windows 10 license? I'm thinking about buying the non-business configuration and then upgrading Win 10 home to Pro.
Hey friends! I found a base model SB 3 for sale for $800. Open Box at Best Buy.
Iβve had several Surface Pros in the past and Iβm reasonably knowledgeable about the Surface Line up, but Iβve never owned a SB.
Is that price a steal? Or should I just chalk up the extra $500 for the Surface Laptop Studio thatβs on sale for $1299?
I wonβt be using it for anything too heavy/intensive. No gaming.
Any advice is greatly appreciated!
Am looking to change my current Lenovo laptop because of screen damage. Should I go for SB2 or SL3, am only using it college and some light gaming
When I detach the surface book 3 and use it in tablet mode, Iβd like to take it on the go and use it like a surface pro or iPad Pro and not use the standard SB3 keyboard. I havenβt seen a cover that does that. Any suggestions?
I have an opportunity to pass down my work laptop (Surface Book 3) and get a new Surface Book 3 with a little more RAM/Storage. But I am also thinking about the Surface Laptop Studio.
I like the 15" size of the Book 3 but 14.4" is not that much of a step down.
I am liking what I'm hearing about the Surface Laptop Studio's keyboard and trackpad. And the thunderbolt ports are something I am looking forward to.
My only concern is the step down in the GPU. If I play games, I don't need to push the max settings so I rarely mess with settings and play games as they detect best settings. But there may be times when I do want to up the settings some. So I am curious to hear how gaming has been on it.
So got a decision...Upgrade my SB3 to more RAM and storage model or take a chance on the Laptop Studio (Core i7, 32GB of Ram, 1TB SSD).
Heya just a question about how well does the surface book 3 i5-1035G7, Intel IRIS 8GB ram( the most basic and cheap one) run League of Legends? Thanks, Jon Li
I have a Surface Book 2 (without discrete GPU). (Just) tablet battery life is atrocious; perhaps 2-3 hours. It's obviously better with the keyboard attached.
I'm contemplating buying a Surface Book 3 (with dGPU). How is battery life for just the tablet? Has it improved over the SB2?
I get 40 to 50 fps in 128 players AOW mode at 1024 x 768p on lowest settings... I'd like to know other people's fps if you've played this game on a surface book 3.
Which one should I get? For context:
- I will be editing 4k videos in DaVinci Resolve. Which one is faster for this?
- MacBook = $2999 // Surface Book = $3111 (it's on sale - $1038 discount off original price)
- Does RAM matter? MacBook = 16GB // Surface Book = 32GB (FYI I will probably have a lot of Chrome tabs open)
- I won't be playing any video games.
- I don't care about the user interface since I have experience with both ecosystems.
- Which one is less of a headache (i.e. less hardware and software problems)?
I heard the M1 Pro is a beast for video editing. On the other hand, 32GB of RAM from the Surface Book 3 is twice the amount I'd get from the new MacBook Pro 14 inch (but does RAM have equal efficiency in each operating system?).
Also entering the competition is the Microsoft Surface Book 3 13.5" i7 1TB for $3074 ($1025 discount off original price). Only good thing about this over the 15" is the storage, hence why it is not part of the title.
Thoughts? I couldn't find anything comparing these two laptops. Thank you all in advance for your input! Would like to give some internet points for insightful comments.
I have a Surface Pro 7 and Surface Book 3 that I would like to sell, as I have upgraded to the Surface Studio Laptop.
Surface Pro 7 (i7;16gb;256gb) has been used for about 2-3 years, I bought it at launch. The tablet itself works well, it has protective case and the Surface Arc Mouse, however the Alcantara keyboard shows some age (as it usually does). It has two protective cases (one that is mounted into the tablet and one as a sleeve) plus Keyboard and Arc Mouse.
Surface Book 3 13inch (i7;32gb;512gb) I bought quiet recently (about 3-6 months), as I needed something more powerful, however I didn't know that the Surface Laptop Studio was coming out, hence it's quiet new. It has a protective case plus the Surface Pen.
Picture, timestamp (please disregard my pink shorts - haha): https://imgur.com/a/bkceY6d
Prefer to sell locally in Los Angeles, Koreatown.
PayPal or Local Cash:
- Surface Pro 7 (including 2x protective cases; keyboard; Surface Arc Mouse): 500 USD
- Surface Book 3 (including protective case; Surface Pen): 1200 USD
- Both together: 1500 USD
If you are a student, I'm willing to give you a bigger discount of 30% for each (350; 840; 1050), as I know things have been hard lately, but please show me your student ID.
Last thing: If by some scenario, you want to change the Surface Arc Mouse for the Surface Pen (vice-versa), I can do that, but it's one or the other for the price above (if you want both then please add 50USD) unless you are buying both devices together.
Update 1 (11/02): This will be going to u/Wilang will be shipping to him in 2 days and do final confirmation when the transaction has been completed.
Final Update (11/04): This went to u/Wilang, who super nice and made the selling super smooth! Really appreciate it! Thank you all!
Bought one this AM, and it already shipped! I was watching review videos on YT and some were giving it a few downsides. I know, no device is perfect. I have buyer's remorse even though I don't have my device yet after watching those videos. Alas, I will give it a chance.
Bought the 15in 256gb, i7 with 16gb ram.
I am moving and so have to use my laptop while my desktop computer is shipped and for now I will use my microsoft surface book 3 for playing osu but the problem is I am getting around 10 ms input lag and I am used to 0.5 is there anyway I can reduce the input lag? thanks for any answers.
Hello, I have an Surface book 2(Base Spec) but my Base is kind of worn down. My question is, can I put on a base with a dGPU from the Book 3 or at least one from the book 2 with a dGPU. Thanks in advance William Sorry, I am not a native English speaker.
I am trying to buy a laptop for grad school purposes, but I also want to load light games on there. I also plan on using it for work that involves loading some intensive programs for loading simulations for lab-based and research-based purposes. Can someone briefly explain the differences between the two so I could make the decision on whether should I just get the surface book or the surface book 3? Right now, I saw offers for a surface book for roughly 1350 and a surface book 3 for 1800 with both having i7, 16 gb ram, and Nvidea GEForce.
I have to use external keyboard and mouse in order to navigate the OS and this is my first attempt with Linux. I do fully understand that Surfaces arent made for linux and therefore it may just not work whatsoever, but you guys are smart and I hope someone might have an answer for me. Is there any way I can get my trackpad and keyboard to work on my Surface Book 3?
