Submarine really hits differently after seeing the film it was made for
I appreciate Alex Turners submarine album thingy so much more after seeing the movie, the film is so adorable and it's one of my favourites now... I've seen it 4 times in the past 2 days I love to so much, I really have a new appreciation for the soundtrack now. If you haven't seen it I recommend you do! β€οΈ

Is it me or is the Yellow Submarine film the only place that sees overlap between the two eras of the band?
I like to split The Beatles career into two parts, touring and non-touring. It just dawned on me how Yellow Submarine is basically the only time those two portions of their career ever intersect with each other with the songs used in the film.

Raised on The Yellow Submarine (film)?
I was born forty-ish cough years ago and wondered how many of my generation (or indeed any generation) on this sub have a strong childhood connection to the Yellow Submarine movie?
Iβm sure it was the repeat viewings of this beautiful film as a kid that forged my bond with the Beatles (not to mention surrealism, psychedelia etc). I saw it recently for the first time in yyyyears and realised that Iβve always had the deepest love for the songs that appear in the film. Eleanor Rigby, Hey Bulldog and Nowhere Man in particular. Iβd love to hear whether anyone else grew up with it or consider it your Beatles gateway drug?

British coming of age indie film similar to Submarine by Richard Ayoade? (can't remember the title, possibly set in Edinburgh)
There's a coming of age indie film (2000s-2010s ) with a love triangle between a boy and 2 girls. The boy is skinny with curly hair and works as a lifeguard or swimming instructor. I think it might have been set in Edinburgh. It had a similar aesthetic to Submarine by Richard Ayoade, but in a more upper middle class environment. Any ideas what the film might be? It's possible I wrong about it having been set in Edinburgh, but I think it might have been

A very very long time ago I had a dream that Disney made a short movie which was about Mickey and Goofey chasing Spooky Spoon from Numberjacks with Golf Clubs in a crawl space. The film ended with Mickey hitting Spooky spoon into a lit up lake with a small submarine in it.

[TOMT][MOVIE][1990s?] Animated, white background with unique paper/paint(?) on top, shaggy haired princess, other characters incl. blue evil king(?), took place in a dystopian NYC or Paris, kind of weird/artsy like Yellow Submarine vibes, long periods of silence like a museum film; Cartoon Network??
I feel like this film slips into my mind from time to time. I swear it was on TV in the 90s or 00s, but maybe made earlier. Could almost pass for a 1970s film. I believe it was on Cartoon Network or Nickelodeon (I'm US-based, born in '89), I'd have a hard time believing it was Disney. Again, from what I recall, totally white background the entire film with what looked like bits of paper or paint strokes on top to create depth and the whole scenery, characters, etc. It's killing me that I haven't been able to find this as I scour "forgotten" or "weird" animated movies!

Anyone remember a German short film about a submarine crew who find a womanβs dead body and bring it aboard their ship?
Very dark and disturbing. Before long, the crew start to become obsessed with her body- fighting over eachother for possession. Boxed together for so long in a tiny submarine turning them into monsters. German I believe but may be Russian. Was absolutely brilliant and I believe on youtube so if anyone knows what it is I will be eternally grateful!
Edit: Found it! Its called βDeeper than Yesterdayβ and is on youtube. Thank you internet.

[TOMT] Gregory Peck submarine film where the sub is based off an island?
There's a 1950/60s Gregory Peck film I can barely remember, where he's a military officer based on a submarine for a mission, just offshore an enemy island.
I specifically remember there was another man who was unhappy to discover his supposΓ©d dancer girlfriend was "expendable", then received 3(?) at the end of the film.
At the climax, Gregory Peck was swimming in the shore, and as the submarine crew were unsure if he had died, they were quiet, and one crewmember unknowingly tapped a coin on the side of the submarine hull, and Peck felt that in the water which guided him to the submarine.
I just can't find the film name anywhere no matter what I search with.
EDIT: Solved! Up Periscope starring James Garner, it was not Gregory Peck as u/DrumpfsTinyPeen mentioned he only did one submarine film.

TIL that the legendary 1981 film "Das Boot" was shot as if it were a silent film, with all of the dialogue and sound added later, because the cameras and their newly developed gyroscopic stabilizers, used for the submarine interiors, drowned out the dialogue and diegetic sound.

In RN submarines (70/80s) off-watch was often spent watching films/playing games. 16mm films were projected onto back of a chart in SSKs & a screen stowed in the deckhead in SSN/BNs. In S-class SSNs, compression of the hull could jam the screen if too deep: β6Β° upβ [unjam] β6Β° down, roll the movie!β
